Kizingo Boulevard

Full run, Bungie.net Fileshare

      ZING... said the lady.
The Boulevard of broken dreams ruthlessly kicks it up a notch in terms of close quarter urban combat. You'll find yourself battling through the congested streets of New Mombasa before rendezvousing with your fellow ODSTs and fending off the hordes of Covenant forces from breaching the limits of Kizingo. The latter half of this mission can be brutal and truly isn't for the faint of heart, but once again, Team Mythic's got your back on this one, so just sit back and take it one piece at a time. The mission has been divided into the following segments...

  1. The Streets
  2. Breaching the Gates
  3. Holding the Line

The Streets

Bungie wastes no time throwing you right into the action on this one. You'll dive headfirst into a skirmish between Covenant forces and a lone UNSC Scorpion tank. The Marines don't stand a chance, so don't feel too bad when you ditch them for a much quicker ride. Follow the path shown in the first video to bypass the battle completely. You'll want to wind up on the opposite end of the courtyard.
You see that Phantom meandering through the deserted streets? It's toting a Ghost, and we're going to hijack it. Wait until the Ghost tries to sneak around the corner, then board it quickly and run over the driver. Boost around the vacant Scorpion to pick up spare ammo for your rocket launcher and an extra hemo pack if necessary.
Yes, I know it's tempting to take the tank, but trust me. You're better off sticking with the Ghost this time around. Due to the tight spaces you'll be trying to squeeze through, grenade-spamming Grunts and Brute Shot flak make the Scorpion a deadly option. The video below will walk you through the process.

Fully loaded with ammo and health, you're now ready to kamikaze your way through the chaotic streets of New Mombasa. Boost down the alley where the Phantom dropped off the Ghost. You may or may not encounter a Wraith here as well. Generally speaking, if you're fast enough, you won't have to worry about the Wraith at all as shown in the video. Speed under the bridge to avoid Brute shot fire, then through the next courtyard towards the barricades at the opposite end.
Remember that rocket launcher? Now we get to use it. Blast away the Shade turrets on ground level and the plasma cannon on the upper walkway. Next, grab one of the two nearby beam rifles. Your first priority should be the Marksman on the right up on the roof (from back the way you came). He should be the last enemy who can actually hit you from across the skirmish zone. The only other major threat in the area is the meandering Ghost and the remaining shade. Use the beam rifle to kill the Grunt in the Shade. Now for the Ghost. To dispatch it, you can either snipe the driver and destroy the unmanned Ghost with the rocket launcher, or you can lure the Ghost over to you, hijack it, and kill the driver. The latter option typically works best for future endeavors, so for the sake of the guide, we're going to use that method.
Use the remaining beam rounds to kill the Brute Captains in the area, followed by any Grunts that you see. Once you feel the courtyard is fairly safe, hop in the Ghost and boost into the open area. Go right. At the end of the path shown in the video, there will be MUCH needed hemo packs. Jump back into the Ghost, and boost to the other side of the courtyard where you'll find a tank. Yes, the next section of this mission is far easier with a tank than just trying to run it. After all, tank beats everything, right? Once you're in the tank, roll on over to the closed gate and immediately take shelter in the alley on the right. Why? Because a Phantom is about to drop off a squad of angry Covenant, and among them is a Brute shot-wielding Captain with an eye on your ride.
Once you hear the Phantom arrive and your intel inform you the gate is open, throw that gas guzzler into reverse and speed on through the gateway. The video below will show you exactly how to do it.

Breaching the Gates

You'd think it'd be easy street from here on out. Unfortunately for you, the trouble is only going to escalate. Moving the tank far enough into the next section will cause the doors to close, trapping you inside. You'll have a couple of different groups of enemies attack you at once. The most noticeable will be the pair of Banshees circling around like vultures. Every now and then, one of them will break away and dive bomb your location. It's best to knock them out of the sky as soon as possible. While that's going on, a few Grunts and Brutes will try to blindside you from the sheltered, ground-level walkway on the left. Don't let them take you by surprise. Remember you're in a tank now, so dodging those pesky plasma grenades is going to be a lot trickier than just simple strafing.
With these two sets of enemies out of the way, it's now time to get to know your surroundings a little bit better. The building off to the right houses a sniper rifle, a rocket launcher + ammo, and a couple of hemo packs for later. You won't need the sniper rifle, really, but the other two items will really come in handy.
Jump back in the tank and start up your rampage again. There will be another platoon of foes a few pillars down. Make short work of them with the Scorpion. The real challenge lies around the corner in the middle of the courtyard area. Drive down the Boulevard until you see the Shade and Brutes under the building overhang at the corner.
You should now have a partial view of the courtyard up ahead and the two Wraiths guarding your exit. Boo! Oh well. At least from your current hold up, you're fairly safe. Stay as far back as you can and shell the Wraiths with everything you've got. Basically, this is one of those areas where the further back from the action you are, the longer you're likely to live. In these tight streets, it's easy for you to get surrounded, or to be suddenly taken off guard by that Grunt you forgot to kill earlier, or perhaps that Brute Captain who was just waiting to unload his Brute shot on your UNSC armor.
There's also a small Covie platoon near the far side of the courtyard (under one of the big 4's), so feel free to decimate their ranks as well. No sense in leaving any stragglers when you're this far along.

Okay, so at this point you're fairly confident that you've cleaned the courtyard thoroughly? Awesome. As you inch the tank forward, you'll trigger the next wave of enemies which will be dropped off via Phantom. Trying to take down the ship is certainly an option, but it moves quick, and missing that window could leave you in a bind, so instead, drive the tank into the courtyard and make a hard left. We'll now be holing up in the cul-de-sac on the other end of the battlefield while assaulting the enemy from a different angle.
Yet another Phantom will drop in to ruin your day by adding Ghosts to the mix. However, at this point you're in a safe position to take down the dropship as shown in the next video.

Mop up the remaining enemies while maintaining a safe distance. If you take too many hits, feel free to grab one of the hemo-packs right behind you.
Lastly, you'll need to deal with the Wraith raining hell down on one of your comrades. Poor Dutch. If only he realized he was invincible he wouldn't be in such a pickle... Make short work of the Wraith with your tank and clean out the rest of the area of stragglers.
With the courtyard clear, it's time to stock up for the next battle. Grab a beam rifle from the same location you got the hemo-packs, jump back in the tank, and lumber on over to the exit. Dutch may be in the midst of engaging a few Covenant baddies, but fortunately, the ever-so-powerful might of the UNSC Scorpion tank is there to provide plenty of support.
After laying waste to them all, hop out of the tank and rush up to Dutch's location. This will trigger the blast door to open and MORE Covie platoons to invade. But you've got them fooled. Jump back into the tank and let 'em have it. Ha!
You can even roll the tank right over the first set of UNSC broken barricades when you're done to dish out a little 90mm tungsten pwnage through the door. When you're ready, go ahead and hand your rocket launcher off to Dutch. Just make sure you don't accidentally get caught in the crossfire. If you played Halo 3 on Mythic, you probably know by now that treason is apparently contagious and running rampant in the UNSC.
Check out the video below to give yourself an idea of how to clear the blast door before entering the final area.

Holding the Line

Is it just me, or do the ODSTs in this game seem to always find themselves with their backs against the wall while repelling wave after wave of Covenant foes. Hmmm... this reminds me of a certain game mode, but I can't quite put my finger on it...
Anyway, it's time to load up. Your objective? Hold down the fort while several waves of Phantoms swarm your position along with a very agitated Covenant Wraith. As shown in the video below, grab a magnum and plasma pistol, then head up to the second floor to one of the elevated walkways. This will be your best way to condense the swarms of aliens about to converge on your location.

You'll have height to your advantage here, but be wary about how often you poke your head out. A few of those captains will be wielding Brute shots and can bring a swift end to your valiant efforts. Instead, wait until they have their backs turned when they start heading up the stairs. The next video will paint you a picture.

This should easily get you through the next few rounds of Covenant. However, somewhere close to the end of the assault, the Wraith will finally get a clue and start shelling your current whereabouts. Fun! So now we have to worry about the Covie armor. No big deal. If you played Halo 3 on Mythic, then your Tsavo Highway efforts will do you justice here with tank-less Wraith pwnage. Your first mini-objective? Kill the secondary gunner to allow yourself an easy assault. Next, work your way around the area while getting closer and closer to the Wraith. Remember, you can use the plasma pistol's EMP to keep it still while you work your way around, allowing you to avoid the deadly plasma mortar. Finally, board the sucker and smash it to pieces!
Wow. I had no idea ODSTs were as strong as Spartans... Hoo-rah!
Our last video shows you how to deal with the Wraith, bringing a close to one of the more difficult missions the game has to offer. Enjoy!
