Well, what I meant was this: The humans still have a large portion of a space defense system. They can defend Earth from total annihilation while the humans themselves fight the Covenant soldiers down on the planet. The Covenant have yet to get a long period of time to destroy the Earth.

Also, this series is going to take huge twists and turns, which basically means that almost nothing that started in the series will come out the way it went in.

I guess the humans are putting a up a really stiff resistance, considering they could turn us into ash with plasma. It's probably a guerrilla war in space, since there's lots of debris to hide in.Its still hard to concieve we could fight them like that, our ships suck compared to theirs.

I wouldn't say he's going to fight the entire Covenant armada. While the humasn hold their own back on Earth, John is joining up with the Phaethon armed forces and they're going to help him out. In a sense, Evanangel is going to play a major role in the series. Evanangel, however, is not just a warship. In fact, nobody (as it stated in Part One) knows what it really is. I'm going to make several 'forms' of Evanangel, so to speak. Hopefully, this will become a multiple turn series, as I will call it.

As for the chant: "Behold thy grace, where art thou, sire? Will I lay me? Will I stay me? Bless this land with fire", I must give credit to Stephen King. I read that in one of his books that I recently obtained and altered the words slightly to fit the story. It really goes as follows:

"Spark-a-dark, where's my sire?
Will I lay me?
Will I stay me?
Bless this camp with fire."

These words are spoken when the characters attempt to start a fire in a campground along a journey. I did not want tro totally plagiarize, so I'm glad I remembered.

Confusing, considering they could maintain orbit and glass whith people roaming around on the planet, like at Reach.

They haven't iced the entire planet because they simply cannot. Since the day they showed up the humans have fought a war against them, and they have yet to open a window of opportunity. Also, they are not letting us live, but killing us very slowly because of the resistance. Simply put, the humans have delayed the Covenant so that John may save them all.
