Yes it can. In The Fall of Reach the P.O.A. opens fire on the Covenant flagship and their MAC gun goes "tink tink tink" as you said. Next time read the book in its minute details and you will descover what I am talking about. Don't knock what you don't know!
The exact quote is, "The Pillar of Autumn shuddered as its MAC gun fired. Pings and grans diffused through the her damaged hull. A trio of white-hot projectiles appeared on the veiw screen, chasing the Archer missiles towards their intended target."

In the FOR hikowa tells keyes about how the POA's MAC gun can fire three round bursts. Read it before you comment. A stupid idea is when people don't know what they're talking about and yell at other people about it

Three round burst for a MAC gun is a stupid idea, with four of them... jesus you could take down three Cov. ships no problem. Some spelling and grammar mistakes too. But come on MAC gun on burst... the Humans would be winning the war. ALl the shots would be on one spot taking down any Covvie vessel easy. That's a stupid idea plus the gun would explode!!! THat bothers me alot!

Hope you like! Not the bloodiest of stories but with a stealth invasion of a Covenant world I'm sure that hand-to-hand combat will be a necessary aspect of the next story.
