Reunion of Death
U.N.S.C. Thunderbird
Private Benjamin Morris slowly opened his eyes, and let the bright light flow through to his pupils. The tube opened in front of him and a cold light blue mist encircled him. His eyes, disoriented, could faintly make out the figure of a man standing in front of him. The man said, "The disorientation will pass soon. Feel free to come out, and we'll get started on vision checks, but first I'll need to see your arm." Morris stood up in the tube and hopped out onto the floor. He looked around for a while then rubbed his eyes with the palms of his hands. "Sir I need to see your arm." Repeated the man. Morris held out his arm, the man seized it rolled up his sleeve and took out a syringe and poked it through his arm and slowly displaced the medicine through it. For the first time in three months the cold air touched his skin.
Morris looked at the man and asked, "What was that?"
"A wake up stim" the man replied. " The captains ordered all Marines to be loaded up and ready to fight ASAP. Sir will you please stand in this red square and face the lights." said the man pointing to a cross of lights. " I'll need you to look directly at each one so I can get a vision reading." Morris did this and the man politely thanked him.
"Now the armory is this way sir if you'll follow me please. Morris followed the man over to one of the two doors on the north side of the room and asked, "Where are all the others, and why do we need to be loaded up so quickly." The man turned to face him and said The Covenant are trying to board the ship! Now hurry, all your stuff is in the armory, everyone else is already loaded up." saying this the man turned back to the door and inserted a clearance card in the slide next to the door. The door slid open and revealed a room with weapons racks on either side of the room and two down the middle. The rack on the left had explosives on it such as grenades, grenade launchers and rocket launchers. The two in the middle had body armor hanging on it; each of the armor suits had a name on the back of the helmet and on the left breast. The rack on the right had general-purpose weaponry on it like assault rifles, shotguns, and pistols.
Morris ran over to the locker with his name on it. He took out the jump suit and slid into it, he zipped up the front and pulled the leg guards of next he slid into these, next was the chest armor then the arms, then his belt with two pistol clips and holster that contained a M6D fifty caliber pistol with a twelve rounds in the clip, and a sheath that contained a Ka-Bar combat knife and then finally the helmet which he placed on top of his head, the interior of the helmet had soft foam padding in it which made it a little difficult to hear since the helmet covered his ears. He pressed a button on the side of his helmet and a little holographic reading appeared in front of his right eye, this showed his health monitor and distance to target. He turned around and walked over to the rack on the right side of the room and picked up an assault rifle and three extra clips. He placed one into the stock of the rifle since the rifle was of bull pup design. He placed the other two into clips into two different pouches on his right side he then walked over to his left and picked up a small first aid kit and placed it in a pouch on his back just above the buttocks.
He turned and ran over to the left side of the room and grabbed two fragmentation grenades and put them in a pouch on his left.
He turned to his right and went through a sliding door out into the Warthog storage room that held up to eight Warthog ATVs four on the right four on the left. Marines were piling into them; the Warthog had space for three driver, passenger, and gunner. The gun was a light anti-aircraft gun (LAAG).
To the right of the room there was a door that leads out onto the Thunderbirds highway system. (You see the Thor class battle cruiser is twelve kilometers long so naturally, you would need a mode of vehicular travel.) And to the left another door led into the Pelican hangar. The two rooms were so close so that the Warthogs could be loaded up fast and efficiently.
He ran to the left door and went through to meet the other nine men and the sergeant were standing. The sergeant turned around and looked sternly at Morris and yelled "Damnit Morris, where the hell have you been!"
"Sir there was a problem getting my chryo tube open."
"You're damn lucky then. Now as I was saying I don't care if this is Gods own anti son of a bitch machine or if it's just a giant hoola hoop, We ain't gonna let them have it. What we are gonna le them have is a gut full of bullets and a pool of their own blood to drown in." He walked up the ramp that led to the outer corridor and turned around and yelled, "Am I right Marines!"
"Sir yes sir!" The marines cried in unison.
"Yeah, Damn right I am." He replied. "Now we're gonna proceed down this corridor to the elevator, we're then gonna go down to deck three and we're gonna make sure those Covenant bastards don't destroy the life pods. Got it!"
"Sir yes sir!" The marines cried in unison, again.
He turned and walked out into the corridor and over to the elevator, the ten marines piled into the elevator after him. As soon as they were in he said, "Five of us will take the right side, five will take the left and I'll take the middle." He pressed a button that had 3 written on it in red. The sliding door closed and the elevator started down. When they reached deck three the elevator made a boop noise and the door slid open. Instantly the marines came out Morris went to the right along with Parker, Williams, Mckray, but everyone called him Tex, and Johnson. Sergeant Stevenson crouched down in the middle of the hall. The men on the left were Kilgore, Clancy, Partington the Englishman, Kilam his nickname was Kill 'em, and Willis. All the marines crouched down as Sergeant Stevenson had done.
Stevenson looked over to Morris' group and signaled for them to advance. He did the same with the group on the left and then proceeded himself. Morris thought, " It's so quiet it's scary." The corridor split in two different directions up ahead so the groups would be able to peak out around the wall so to see enemies up ahead without halving engage be fore they were ready.
The squad was in a low part of the ship where the bottom of the ship had a kind of rise in it with only a small hexagonal bridge across it. This was where some of the life pods would launch; there were about one hundred to a side and four on the top and three more spread out across the bottom of the ship.
They peaked around the corner, nothing there on Morris's side, one Elite and five Grunts ever one on the left immediately opened fire on them sergeant Stevenson yelled "Concentrate your fire on one enemy at a time!"
One of the Elites raised his Plasma Rifle and fired off three shots that each hit Willis squarely in the chest. He fell over on to his back and started yelling and screaming "Oh God, Oh God, It Burns! Get this Shit off me, get it off, get it off!" "Stop screaming, and wait a second son, we're doin' the best we can!" Yelled the Sergeant "Morris Flank the little pricks." Morris did so taking the other four men with him and going around the large eight-foot support column, they opened fire on the rest of the Elites and Grunts. Morris killed the last of the Elites, and started working on the Grunts. After all of them were killed Morris and the rest of his group went down the hall to see how Willis was doing, he had thrown off his breast plate to stop the Plasma shot from burning through to his chest. Sergeant Stevenson was bending over him examining the wound "That's a good man, getting shot three times with hot Plasma and still be willin' to fight." He said. "Now let's get down and defend them life pods.
They regrouped on each side they were on previously, and continued down the hall. They inspected each of the life pods to make sure there wasn't any Covenant hiding around in them. Morris yelled to the Sergeant down the hall "All clear up hear sir!"
"Good" he yelled back beckoning him over.
Ben turned to his group and said, "Let's go guys." As they started walking there was a big WHAP! On the side of the ship which knocked Morris onto the floor. He stood up and said, "Did something just hit us!"
