Jake awoke the next morning, alone. A sigh of relief made it to his face, she didn't really help him stay warm, but it was better then just the blankets. When he reached the bottom of the staircase, and opened the door, he stopped, blank-faced. Snow. He had never seen snow before, sure he had heard of it, but he had never seen it before.

Suddenly, a white covered his visor, and he heard giggling. He wiped off his visor, and looked around, until he saw her, she was standing there laughing.

"Are you from outer space or something?" she laughed some more.

"Yes," Jake felt offended, "what's your name?"

"Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot to tell you," she smirked, "I'm Nicole."

"Oh, that's a pretty name," he turned around, and started making a ball out of the snow.

"What are you doing?" she asked.

Jake turned; a large snowball had been formed in his hand. He raised his arm. He had made sure that it weighed a little less then a plasma grenade, and whipped at her, hitting her in the face.

"One for one," Jake smiled, and turned to a man cooking some soup.

"What do you want sir?" the man asked, and saluted.

"What?" Jake was puzzled.

"I used to be a Marine, then I found this place, and decided to stay," he let out a sigh.

"Can I have some of that?" Jake didn't want to stay much longer, maybe a few days.

"Sure, this is the most we've had in a while actually."

"Wow, thanks," he grabbed a bowl, and the exMarine poured some soup into it.

Jake sucked down the soup fast; it was actually pretty good for being made by poor people. He then returned to his room and returned the clothes to Nicole.

"I don't need these anymore," he handed them over.

"Oh, okay, I'll take them back then," she turned and walked over to a house, entered it and came back out.

"I think my skull suit will keep me warm enough," he grinned.

"Okay, I just thought you- never mind," she blushed and turned around.

"What? What's the matter?" he came up beside her.

"Nothing, I'm fine," she looked up at him and then, she latched on to him, she was giving him a hug.

"Uh, okay," Jake was confused, but the feeling was good.

"I want to go with you," she looked up into his eyes.

"No, you can't," he pushed her away.

"C'mon Jake! Be a human for once!" she pleaded.

"I can't be a human," Jake looked at the ground.

"Yes you can! You may not be able to look like one! But you can act like one!" she stomped her foot on the ground.

"I'll try, let me sleep and eat on it," he cocked his head.

"Okay, I guess. See you tonight, I'm going back to the river."

Jake thought he should survey the small town of Cadillac. It really wasn't that small, it was just long. Long and rather narrow, especially considering that it turned into Haring Township. There were super markets and such, but none of them were still intact. There was an old Shell gas station that was now the local armory; it held about 30 AR's, 56 Pistols, 2 Rocket Launchers, and one SR.

Once it became dark, he returned back to his room, and found it was empty, just a note on the bed. He picked it up and it read:

Jake, come to my room, across the street, on the top floor.

Jake made his way over, and headed up the staircase. From the looks of things they were in the old 5/3 bank, on Mitchell Street. Once her got up to her room he opened the door, and quickly shut it again. She was in there, but naked, and in the shower. He peeked it open, and looked inside.

Then he cried out, "I thought you guys bathed in the river?"

She returned, "Naw. I just go there to fish, and bathe while I'm there."

"Oh," he blushed, and walked into her room, shutting the bathroom door.

He sat on her bed, and waited for her to exit the shower.

"You're way to modest," she cried out.

"Well," he was about to say something, but decided to not embarrass himself.

"Trust me, you have nothing to be ashamed of," she let out a giggle.

"Oh," his face was now beat red.

She chuckled, "I'll be out in a second, make yourself at home."

He looked around, TV but it was broken, it was easily the cleanest place in the whole city.

"You like it clean don't you?" he asked.

"Everything but-" she stopped.

"What?"

"Never mind," she stepped out of the shower, with only panties on.

Jake couldn't help but stare, but no one could notice through is visor. She walked over to her dresser, and pulled out a nightgown, and slipped off her panties. Jake snapped himself off the sight, and then looked back over at her. After she had finished this painful peep show, she sat down next to him.

"Calm down," she put a hand on his thigh.

"I'm calm," he stuttered out.

"Sure, now take off that armor, I'm sure it won't be very comfortable."

"Uh, okay."

When he was down to his skull suit, he sat back down next her, "There."

"A little excited aren't we?" she laid down on the bed.

"Hahaha," he laid down next to her, and slowly fell asleep.

He was awoken by a violent shaking, "Jake wake up! Get on your armor, the Covenant are near!"

"What!" he jumped up, and began strapping on his armor.

"They're close by, I'm part of the look out team, and I want you to come out with me."

"Alright," they ran down the steps, and into the woods, where there were to two men they had a Warthog's LAAG turret put into an embankment.

They sat there for several moments, until the first Grunt wondered out into the clearing.

"Wait for him to give the go," the one man took up the LAAG cannon, the other propped a SMG up against his shoulder. Jake raised his Battle Rifle, and Nicole pulled up her AR.

The Grunt spoke in an alien tongue, and two Elites and four Jackals ran out into the small clearing. The man at the turret called to wait for his signal, and then begin to fire. They waited for a good five minutes, then, when an Elite turned his back, the man fired off the LAAG at him, leveling him instantly. The other Elite was about to call for back up when Jake but three .308 rounds into his head, the Grunts scrambled, only to be mowed down by LAAG and AR fire.

The Jackals circled in, and began burning down the forest.

"How's this for a first date?" Nicole looked at Jake.

He chuckled, "Just fine, cover me," he bolted up the hill, rushing the Jackals. They fired at him, only to meet the stock of his rifle, he then shot the rest of them in the back, they were too slow to turn around in time.
