Gorjn and Orfanse snuck between the buildings as they tried to get to the central base of the Covenant. Orfanse swore under his breath, "Damnit, why couldn't those assholes wait one more minute?!"
"They had already waited too long. They might have been captured or killed if they waited any more. Initiation of the old T6 specter takes about five minutes. They might have already been killed by the patrol orbiting the planet," Whispered Gorjn.
The two companions crawled closer to the main gate. The entire city was crawling with covenant forces. They both had camo, but Orfanse had to ditch his shield because for some strange reason they couldn't cover it up. Orfanse, with his advanced senses was able to count six elites, 23 grunts, 15 jackals, seven brutes, and 4 pairs of hunters. They had to be careful, one noise and there would be so much gun fire in different directions that the camo would be about as useful as half-ton weights on their feet. They decided to enter from the west side since there was a cliff, and therefore being much less guarded. "Come on, the camo won't last much longer and I at least want to get into the building before it wastes away," said Gorjn in an undertone.
Orfanse scowled in frustration as he looked at the side of the cliff. He had never been one for many emotions, but being pissed off at everything seemed to be his specialty. This sometimes annoyed Gorjn who wasn't exactly very fond of Orfanse's constant pessimistic attitude, but Orfanse was a good friend and a skilled shooter, so he's an okay guy all and all.
They inched there way along the edge of the base. The ravine was a long drop down, and Gorjn was sweating in fear as he edged along the side. They stared up the side of the completely smooth wall. "How the hell are we supposed to get up that?" cried Orfanse in rage.
Gorjn also looked up in irritation. He peered around the edge of the building to see if anybody was in earshot. There weren't, but he told Orfanse to keep watching incase anyone did come. After a small argument between the two about why the hell Orfanse needed to watch followed by a rock, paper, scissors match; Gorjn again crawled along the cliff. Then he fired his plasma pistol up and down the side of the wall, making hand-holds to the top where the windows were. Orfanse came back and smiled in approval at Gorjn's handy work. "Nice job, for once," he said in silent admiration of Gorjn.
Gorjn smiled back, "lets just hope that we can be smart enough to get through the base its self."
As they entered the base, their camo wore off. "No more of the covenant thinking that this place is haunted," smirked Orfanse in an undertone.
They remained in the shadows as they snuck along. They stopped at a corner when they heard two jackals voices. " I'm going to the café to get some grub, want to come?" said the first.
"Nah, I still have to patrol for another thirty minutes," said the second.
Gorjn and Orfanse made a silent agreement. Orfanse needed a shield and here was the prefect opportunity for him to get a new one. They waited until the other jackal had gone, and then Orfanse crept up behind the second jackal. One quick bash to the head and the jackal was out like a light. They dragged the unconscious creature into an empty room. Orfanse took the shield and they again crept along the corridors.
As they entered the docking bay there prayers were answered. There were few covenant in the area, considering the fact that patrols didn't switch for another day. The few that were there were half asleep or doing other things. There were a even a few engineers, but as usual they were completely intent on their work. Gorjn looked at one of the engineers in puzzlement. He had never seen one before and the site of one was extremely strange. They had huge bulbous eyes that could probably see in the dark, perfectly square teeth, large ears, short black fur, small very flexible arms with two joints, and their hands were small with six fingers on each one. Gorjn was so absorbed in the engineers that he didn't here the alarm right away. Do you remember the jackal that Orfanse had knocked out when they entered the building. Well his buddy had come back to see what was taking his friend so long and had set off the alarm when he saw the unconscious body of his comrade. Orfanse pulled Gorjn out of the way as a barrage of gun fire came to their location. The covenant in the room suddenly alert had immediately noticed the hideaways over in the corner. Gorjn sprinted over to a nearby banshee. If there was anything that Gorjn enjoyed about having any training in the covenant it was flying. Back on his home planet he had always stared at his pet hinjb and dreamed at soaring through the air and flying through the tundra at top speed. The banshee was probably the closest thing to that he would ever experience. He gave a scream of glee as he soared up and swooped down upon an elite that was attacking Orfanse. After he killed the elite he swung around and let loose and a shoot from his fuel rod cannon at a cluster of jackals. "Oh shit!" screamed Orfanse as a brute hopped up from behind a barrel and shot at him. Orfanse had just enough time to lift up his shield before the shot hit. The shield was obliterated by the shot and Orfanse wrist had been sprained by the power of it. Orfanse cowered down in fear as the brute smiled cruelly and brandished his rusty blade.
Gorjn wasn't doing any better after he had dispatched the group of jackals. Ten elites had come into the room after the alert had been sounded. And sent a bombardment of plasma a the banshee. "Damnit, I can't hold her!" Gorjn hollered as the banshee flipped on it's back.
The banshee crashed into the ground smashing into a nearby drop ship.
Gorjn crawled out of the destroyed craft. He could see out of his singed eyes that the battle was coming to an end. Orfanse had been backed up into the area that Gorjn had crawled to. Gorjn knew that they were going to be killed, but there was one small hope. The dead covenant had many plasma grenades, and the grenades were scattered all over the floor. If he could just set off one it would create a chain reaction. He picked up a grenade on the ground near him. "Orfanse, how would you like to go out with bang?" said Gorjn weakly.
Orfanse, whose face was almost covered in purple blood from the rusty blade of the brute he had been able to fend off,"go for it."
Gorjn coughed up some blood and cried out, "okay! Here we go!
Just before Gorjn could set the plasma grenade off there was a noise from the docking bay. "What the hell was that!?" cried Orfanse.
