The creatures were loose. He didn't know how he knew it, but he knew. He was in a large room. He saw some shadows moving to his left. He called out a typical Covenant greeting. The shadow moved towards him. He pulled up his plasma sword just incase, though. He heard a voice call out. He couldn't make out what was said. He was about to charge into the shadow when something ran behind him. He reached back with his great reflexes and grabbed onto the shape. In one swift motion he twisted his arm and the thing landed in front of him. His plasma sword came up to head level and was about to ignite when he was stopped. It was his friend. At least he thought it was; why was he squirming about so much. Just as he was about to ask what was going on, his friend transformed before his eyes. His fingers grew and...his friends, they were the creatures. Why were his friends so mutilated? What had happened to them?
Kelsorg awoke to a blinding light. He felt a little dazed.
"Where am I?" he asked, "What ship am I on?"
"You are on the Resolve." A voice disclosed. He'd heard the voice before but couldn't place it. It could've been any of the captains that had followed the Human ship here. Here, where was here?
"Which system are we in? Are we home?" Kelsorg implored.
"No, we are still above Halo. You were nearly killed when the Humans freed the captives. They escaped on one of your drop ships. Your ship lost most of its command crew. We barely saved you."
"Why can't I see? What's wrong with my eyes?" Kelsorg roared.
"Sorry about that, I'll fix it," the voice calmly stated. The lighting returned to normal. Kelsorg was shocked to see that the origin of the voice was the admiral of the Covenant strike force. "That any better?" the admiral asked.
"Yes sir, much better. Thank you for helping me, sir." Kelsorg managed to stammer.
"That's ok, we need every Elite we can get. The strike on the Truth and Reconciliation halted all repairs. On top of that, we lost contact with our exploration party to find the ammunition storeroom. We haven't heard from them in several hours. Our surgeons have healed your wounds. I need you to find out what happened to our missing party. Find them or their remains and report back here."
"Yes sir. I'll get on it right away," Kelsorg replied. He hopped off the table and marched down the hall. He picked out his plasma sword, a fully loaded plasma rifle, and 3 grenades. He also picked up an over-shield. Kelsorg walked into the hanger of the large ship and was surprised to see the hundreds of vehicles, from ghosts to banshees; there was every type of ship. Grunts ran about reloading a wraith. He walked to the bottom level and picked out a small but heavily armored banshee. After examining it he got in and lifted off. The view was beautiful. The sun was just rising and he was in the upper atmosphere. He glided down until he was 30,000 meters above the swamp. The sun was now fully in view and Kelsorg turned to note that the Resolve was only a large speck in the sky.
Kelsorg touched down only a few dozen meters from the entrance to the building. The swamp was lovely. It had rained in the night and the leaves were glistening with droplets of water. There was a veil of mist over the swamp and the sun shone through highlighting certain places. As he entered the foreboding structure he found traces of dark blood near the doors. It was Human. The humans had been here. He readied his plasma sword and started charging his over-shield. He stared down the hallway into the darkness. It looked threatening compared to the peaceful swamp outside. He thought the walls looked familiar but dismissed it as just a feeling. The sunlight disappeared, as he got farther in. His heart started beating faster. He made his way into the heart of the building. The signs of battle were everywhere. He could see plasma scars on the walls, but there were still no bodies. He entered a large room and looked around. He perceived a slight amount of movement in a doorway. He ducked behind a crate just incase whatever it was could see him in the darkness. He slowly lifted his head and peeked over his crate. It was a Jackal. It was bleeding profoundly and was softly moaning. Kelsorg picked himself up and walked over to it.
"What happened here?" Kelsorg hoarsely whispered.
"Ambushed by Humans...and things," the jackal struggled to say. "They killed us... they killed us all. We... didn't stand...a chance."
"What do you mean by 'things'?" Kelsorg inquired.
"Lots of... things. Attacked us...invaded our bodies." The jackal grabbed the Elites armor, "Get out...of here...NOW!" the Jackal fell to the floor. A noise rang out behind him. Only then did Kelsorg remember his dream. He broke out in a cold sweat, he ran back up to the surface. He looked back into the darkness. He barely made out a whitish green figure chasing him. He fired several plasma shots into the things torso. The creature bent over for a second, but kept up the chase. There were many of them now. Some looked vaguely like an Elite and some almost like Humans. He chucked a plasma grenade behind and heard a blast a few seconds later. Kelsorg was out of breath now and the creatures kept coming. Just as he thought he would collapse he saw the end of the tunnel. Daylight. This time the swamp didn't look beautiful; it looked like an immortal beast ready to devour him. He dashed to his banshee and jumped in. "The creatures, it was us. We released them!" he stammered. He fired up the anti-gravity pods and flew away. He looked back and saw hundreds of white blurs pouring out of the entrance of the building. Thousands of plasma bolts streaked for his tiny ship. A few rockets flew past as well. As he made it up into the atmosphere he thought about the Legend...the Legend of the Beast. Would an Elite come to save the universe once again?
Back at his ship he tried to describe what he saw to the Admiral.
"The beasts, it was us. We released them. I killed a few, but it seemed like there were millions," Kelsorg explained. The admiral just nodded his head as if he understood everything being said. "You act like you already know... and what I'm telling you isn't surprising," Kelsorg angrily roared.
"The fact is that after you left, we got a report that the Truth and Reconciliation has been taken over by these creatures. They are trying to repair your ship. We think they may be trying to escape. I've already dispatched a team to retake the ship," the admiral calmly explained.
"Then why do you need me?" Kelsorg questioned.
"The Human ship is also being repaired by these creatures. I need you to take a team over to annihilate that ship. You can have your choice of crew. Take whomever you need. Also, we've found out that the Human is still alive, the one that nearly killed you on the Truth and Reconciliation. He was found earlier today on the your ship," the admiral explained. Kelsorg thought it over. It would seem like a suicide mission, if not for the Spartan. All Kelsorg could think about was revenge.
"I'll get right on it." Kelsorg announced. As he walked down the hall he pondered what to do to the Spartan. He walked into the ready room. "I need 120 good soldiers, preferably special ops units. Units started pouring into the room. A hologram popped up showing the interior of the Human ship. "We will enter here." He said, pointing to the escape pod launchers. "I want spec ops Grunts scattered around this spot," as he pointed at the bridge.
"Sir, I don't understand what our mission is about, sir." A grunt exclaimed.
"We are to insure that the beast doesn't escape using this ship. We must get to engineering to destroy the primitive fusion reactors here," Kelsorg pointed to the large room on the screen. It was almost like a maze to him. "Does that answer your question, Grunt?"
"Yes sir. I hear that these beasts are hard to kill and can take over our own bodies. What's to prevent that from happening? I don't want to be like one of those creatures." The hologram changed to show a picture taken by Kelsorg on the mission to find the doomed party.
"This is a picture I took of the beast. It infects the host and transforms them into this." The hologram changed into a close-up picture of a creature. It took a few second for the soldiers to realize what they were looking at.
"It...it almost looks familiar. Like and Elite." A Jackal managed to stammer.
"It was. The beast altered it. I don't know how they do it, or what does it, but you must stay away from them. They will take and kill you. Then turn you into these." Kelsorg retorted.
They walked into the armory station next door and started getting ready. Kelsorg grabbed several active camouflages and a few over-shields. His plasma sword hung loosely at his waist and in his hand he brandished a plasma rifle. He looked around the room. Hundreds of Covenant fighters were getting ready to fight an unknown enemy on an alien ship. He could feel the warriors getting prepared to fight whatever might come near them. When they were ready he marched them to the drop ships. Suddenly a voice called out, "Wait, I need to tell you something." Kelsorg turned to see who had interrupted his mission. It was a runner, a lowly Jackal whose sole purpose was to run errands for the higher-ranking crew.
"What do you want? I'm about to leave for a mission." Kelsorg retorted.
"The admiral wanted me to tell you that the Human is heading for his ship. He thinks that the Human may try to escape. We also detected a human drop ship. We are moving to intercept it." The runner said between breaths. Kelsorg muttered a word of thanks and started walking towards his transport. "So, the Human was going to be on the same ship as me," Kelsorg thought, "This could prove fun." He boarded the ship that would take them all to the brink of death, and for some of them, over.

(Tell me what you thought. I hope you like it. Tell me if there were any inconsistencies or anything. If people want it, I'll redo number 1. After I finish this series I will finish one I made several months ago. It was about an ODST on the Pillar. I'll explain more when I post it. The thing is, an airport x-ray machine erased it. I need to rewrite half of it and edit out the nonsense. Once again tell me what you think. Neco out.)
