The Battle for Earth
A Halo Fan-Fiction Novel

Chapter One
Shell casings jumped one by one out of the Assault Rifle of KEYES-SPARTAN II- 13. He was better known as Master Chief, a tribute to the Spartan soldier who defeated the Covenant in a time long ago. The Grunt who, with his other companions, charged at the Master Chief and fell instantaneously. The name, Keyes, was from a Lifetime Achievement Award Winner as a Commanding Officer from the Navy. The urban area in which the Master Chief was standing was lit up by ads for Coca-Cola and the latest beer company.
All of the Spartan Twos were supposed to get an advertisement placed somewhere on their MJOLNIR-III armor. Keyes-13 refused to get these put on his armor, a decision Keyes and John-117 would have made themselves.
The MJOLNIR-III armor hardly changed since the first MJOLNIR armor was released. Keyes decided to use the Crimson color armor, especially for this insertion. It blended well with the sun-setting sky. The battle raged late into the night, and the Master Chief took many trips to the command post set up in a life-insurance building. You pick up a clip of ammo, the Master Chief thought, and insure $1,000,000 to your family. That's a good mix.
The digital clock on the building read "01:17" and the Master Chief's neural memory implants triggered a memory of a time, long before he was born. The memory even loaded a video clip in which John-117 escaped from a ring-world seconds before it became dust and echoes. Another video clip, showed Captain Keyes in the Pillar of Autumn speaking to John-117.
A threat indicator flashed an up arrow over this video clip. Within seconds he was blasted with Plasma Sniper fire. Keyes-13 felt a shock in his chest, and he glowed with yellow shields around him. He quickly made a jump to a nearby convertible. He breathed heavily, watching his shield indicator on the HUD, or the Heads-Up-Display. It flashed red, and a piercing beeping noise bounced off the inside of his helmet. Behind him, stood a gun turret, which fired countless rounds of rockets. He watched his shield indicator zoom back up to a blue state, or a stable state. He knew it was safe to move again. He moved about twenty yards back to the gun turret. When he turned around, he realized that Jackals had been advancing towards the convertible that stood there. They, realizing the Spartan had moved, moved quickly towards the Spartan. In a few seconds, he had chosen an area to fire. He chose to discharge is rocket right at the convertible, sending it 20 meters into the air, with a majority of the Jackals accompanying it. The car fell to the ground, taking the other live Jackals with it.
"Nice!" Autumn said in approval. Autumn was the A.I. in the MJOLNIR armor that knew almost anything and everything. In things she didn't know about, she used logic and reason to figure out what it was. Many other A.I. systems had its flaws. She was like her predecessor, Cortana, which was inexplicably deleted when inserted into Keyes-13.
"Many humans have been taken captive by the Covenant," Autumn continued. An image of Captain Keyes in a holding cell, and then an image of a flood manifested Captain Keyes flashed on inside Keyes-13's helmet. "I wouldn't keep your mind focused on that, especially at a time of war."
"I'm doing that?" the Master Chief asked.
"I think so. Unless certain words I am saying are triggering the photo memory bank system."
"Is there any way that can be deactivated?"
"Give me one moment Keyes," Autumn paused, "Ah. There we go, sir."
"Thanks, Autumn."
The streets had been littered with human bodies as well as those of the Covenant. He went inside the headquarters (a giant hotel), and went to room 117, showered and lay down in his bed. He connected his helmet to a receiver, and played John-117's journey through the sleeping Pillar of Autumn, and took out the Covenant, and rode in the M12 LRV through the spacecraft. He got to sleep soon thereafter.
