Captain William Thomsan clenched his fists in worry. He and the entire crew aboard the frigate Excalibur had been dodging the Covenant for Hours now. Usually the lifespan of a lone frigate against a Covenant destroyer was five minutes, but this was different, his ship had a new weapon, the the ioncaster. It launched MAC rounds at hostiles but the shells were saturated with ion radiation which could do as much damage as ten Shiva nuclear war-heads but it wasn't enough. "Initiate Cole Protocol article four." said the captain "but sir, we didn't..."replied the crewman only to be answered by"IDON'T GIVE A RAT'S ASS ABOUT WHAT WE DID AND DID NOT DO! AND YOU WILL GET US OUT OF HERE!" The Fujikawa-Shaw Translight engines warmed up as a certain marine noticed that the glow on the back end of the enemy ship had intensified. "Now!" ordered the captain, and the ship disappeared into slipspace."Whew that was close." said the crewman on navigations. "It's about to get closer!" cried the sensor officer.
Unfortunately the intercom was keyed on at the time, and everybody aboard the Excalibur realized that the Covenant was trailing behind them guns ablazing."WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIIIIIIIE!!!!!!!!" "HELP ME JESUS!!!" "IFWEDIEIMENTTOSAYILOVEYOU!!!" were some of the things heard by the inside of the ship where the morale was falling like a block of lead. Captain Thomsam growled momentarily before saying" Weapons officer, dampen the power on the ioncaster and prepare to fire." "But sir, that'll just give it enough power to..." "I don't want your bullshit, just fire." William eased in his chair as he prayed that it would work, he didn't study advanced metaphysics just to see his maneuver fail.
A high-radiation bolt of ion saturated uranium slowly slid through the cannon's barrel.normaly, he would have just fired back, but a nasty plasma incident fused the cannon joints forward. For twenty seconds that seemed like forever the shell got out and immediately trailed back towards the Covenant ship just as it launched a plasma bolt.
The interlocking firing trajectories caused a problem, as the radiation of both attacks passed each other, the magnetic pulse of each made them slingshot towards where they were fired from."SHIT!"Uttered the captain as the ion bolt sped towards his ship. Captain Telo Gullame stared out the veiwscreen of the Everlasting Vigilance seeing his attack was compromised by the humans. He uttered an elite swear"!TIHS".
The ion bolt impacted on the thrusters causing the slipspace engine to 'flux' as some called it. It's when a slipspace engine fails and things start to get messy, same thing for the elite captain only it was called a xulf. "Damage report!" the captain barked. "Hull capacity 49% and dropping sir!" This was bad, if the Covenant captured them, they could figure out how to wipe out humanity. Luckily, it wasn't exactly perfect on the Covenant's side of the playing field, their plasma shot slid along their reflective shield before impacting on their rear end. the following carnage that insued resulted in the hulls of both ships connecting with each other with unusual results.
There was a deafening explosion as the interconnecting hulls swerved out control.as they continued the saw that they were heading towards an "incoming planetiod mass sir!" said the sensor officer "that's ridiculous" thought the captain nothing other than ships and the ocassional comet ever clawed their way into slipspace, but one thing was obvious, they were going to land on it.
"decks one through twelve proceed to lifeboats, decks thirteen through eighteen proceed to drop pods, decks nineteen through twenty-four proceed to pelican dropships." Something wasnt right, the Covenant were right on top of them yet they showed no hostile actions. He guessed that they relized that their survival was more important than our death. As the captain raced thruogh the halls, he realized how dire the situation was; burst coolant tubes, massive chunks of battleplate floating in the vacuum of space, and eletrical fires burning all over the ship. a hollow thump reverberated througout the Excalibur "oh shit, that was the reactor core." said the crewman. "Oh god tell me your kidding right!?"asked the passing soldier. "get to your objective now corpral!" ordered the captain. But even looking at his back as he ran off, you could imagine the look of pure horror in the corpral's eyes.
The captain and some twenty others had finally reached the pelican, then captain Thomsan ordered "let's go.
