The last remant of the UNSCs once fine navy were making their final preparations for slip space to escape the destruction of Refugio Pasado the last colony. Despite the UNSC best efforts this once fertile world of awe inspiring beauty was reduced into ash and glass from the Covenants orbiting ships. Captain Laatste sighed as he watched the planet through the viewports of the bridge. He cast his eyes down unwilling to beleive that it was all over, after thirty years of fighting the UNSC had finally lost. He never thought he would be alive to see the end of the war after Earth was destroyed. But somehow after all his dances with death he had survived...only to witness the Covenant victory. He looked up again, the A.I Cortana although performing her tasks with her usual determination and efficentnous had a strange far away look in her holograms eyes. Is she really feeling this sorrow? Or did she make this part of her image to suit the new times? Laatste did not press the matter. There were more important things to do, they had roughly 300 refuges from the colony to look after, perhaps they could start a new world somewhere in the far edges of the galaxy. No impossible the ships tanks were half empty and the Covenant would probably find them anyway. the monitor in front of him flashed the slip stream drive status. Good they were ready. He flipped on the ships radio and addressed the personal aboard. Then he put on a private channel between him and Master Chief. There was no need to tell Cheif they were going into slipspace, he would of heard the last transmission and probably could feel the ship around him starting to shake a little more frequently. But still he had kind of grown on him after all they had been through, Chief felt like a son to him but of course Chief wouldnt have these kind of feelings, he's trained no to. Strange Chief didnt accept his call... what on Earth? or rather of course what in space?

Chief declined the request from the Captain. His instincts screamed at him to answer but his brain told him it wouldnt be nessecary any more.He took off his armour then laid his helmet to rest on his low lying bunk. He started at its cold merciless look. He felt odd almost sad or tired, he wasnt meant to feel this way, it was against his training but he couldnt fight off. He slumped his shoulders as he walked down through the dining hall no longer looking like authority. Refugees trained their eyes on him as he strode pass. There were a lot of people in here and a vast majority of them were children. Children...so innocent and to young to be murdered. Everyone looked sympathetic towards him, although he didnt know it there was a strange hauntedness to his face, like a piece of rubber that has been strectched show over a cup so much its showing stress marks. He reached the hatch and stepped through then walking down the corridor behind. He stopped at one of the large observation windows. As he looked down on the planet he had visions of woman holding their children..crying silently as there dead husband and father is is kicked aside as an Elite moves forward to finish the job... Chief gripped the railing tightly as he though of this enemy. He had killed many, he loved the feeling of satisfaction as his blood renched hands snaps back an Elites...a ruined temple, the doors are charred..people are bowed praying to a huge statue of their god...only to be intrupeted as a swarm of Jackals jump from the rafters slaughtering them then lifting them back up to feast...nonsence jackals dont fly thought trying to rid of this horrid image... and there a trapped under a burning beam is a young boy. An Elite looks on laughing at his victims misfortune...the boy looks a lot like me...a sudden jolt of the ship brought his attention back. And then he saw them: Swarms of seraph fighters screaming towards the ship I must get my armour and fight! But no what is the point? The fight is over...Chief turned back to the window then looked back down the corridor. He snapped to attention and marched back to his room. But not for his armour....

Captain Laatste wasnt feeling well back on the bridge, Seraph fighters were swarming around the ship, too fast for the autocannons to lock on. A leutenant shouted something incoherant, a warning light flashed red...one last duty to do. Not that it matters. He ordered the crew to silence, gave them their orders then turned to his own screen. Cortana's hologram smiled at him then smartly saluted, Laatste saluted back then keyed in a command. She vanished.
Chief flipped over an old coin between his fingers. Memorys flooding back to him of his short time on his home planet, his abduction and training, the modification and replacements of part of his body, his first mission, his first kill, his teammates..... A lone tear ran down Johns cheek as he thought of his team. It was the first time this had happened since his abduction. The only family he ever knew was all dead and all murdered. Every last one of them. It was ironic that he had always said he would never die in space, so helpless...so cold...he flipped into the air and caught it swiflty in mid air with his right hand. It was Eagle side up...

Mamoosoi Degardeme had been accelerated to a Commander through the ranks of the Covenant R'trd Toasoma or as them pitifull humans called: Elite. After the defeat of the planet the Covenant had swept through the galaxy looking for lone ships trying to escape. The higher prohpets were confident thy had killed every last one. Now that the prophecy had been fullfilled there was little to do now. There is no one to fight or conquer. But there were still artifacts to find. He crept through the lush grass of this ring. After signalling for his team to follow he consulted his small data pad. The structure was directly ahead tucked under an overhanging cliff. Behind him a small dropship awaited for the treasure he was about to find. Surely he will go up another rank after this find. His team reached the door. Not surprising it was locked, nearly all forerunner research facilities were. Four of the Elites under his command began setting up a small more compact version of the shade turret to blow the door. Once it was ready Mamoosoi gave the signal. A flash of purple erupted from the turret and boared throuth the door. The turret shut off. Clouds of dust erupted from the open tunnel and engulfed the squad. Mamoosoi took a light blue piece of crystal and held it above his eyes to see. A few shapes appeared to move in the dust. Surely not his team....a flurry of tentacles wrapped around his crystal and threw it aside. then they preceeded to wrap around his face. Sufocating Mamoosoi collapsed to the floor as one by one his team were engulfed.

The flood managed to hitch a ride on the dropship then taking over the Covenant ship and cosuming its crew preceded to all the Covenant worlds on the ships database. Nothing was left. the galaxy was contaminated but not for long. The flood slowly witherd and starved. only one location of sentient life remains, one lone asteroid in the Eridanus system. Seargent Johnson observed the city sprawled before him and sighed with content. He had all his desires right here. He felt a pang of regret as he gazed onto a monument, a stone statue of a sad homeless family with the UNSC flag behind. The ship he was was the onboard was the only one to make it away from Refugio Pasado. All he had known was dead. He walked into his office, a sign with his name and governer was apon the desk as well as a case of cigars. Johnson sank into his chair and took a cigar and drew a long puff letting the pincers of his desease finally taking hold of him....
