Oh my god... I still cannot understand this crap. I'm stuck on a big ring in the middle of space oustide of god knows where. I was dropped here with a six man team to rescue dropship survivers from the Pillar of Autumn. Just one little problem there, a guy called Master Chief decided to run through here earlier and evac everyone for us... too bad he didn't tell us. I guess he did it right after we got fired out of our drop. Because now we're here at the top of some damn mountain, blocked in from behind, some Covenant building shooting some blue thingy up into the air every now and again.
Oh and the dozens of Covenant that seem to be massing an attack on us. They've been down there for about fifteen minutes now, eight dropship loads of the bastards.
"If we're lucky they don't know we're up here." That from Leen, he's our officer... he's a moron. I say that because he decided to announce that as he stood up on a rock, staring down at the elites shouting their "Wort Worts" at him, and he's proven to be a moron in the past... it's his gift... looks like one Elite is drawing a bead on him. If we're lucky that ugly s.o.b. will aim low and save us from future generations of Leen.
"Even if they don't see is we need to get through them to make it to a decent evac spot." That was from Beltzir. He's the guy that spends most of his time pointing out the obvious to Leen. The rest of us don't have the patience for it.
Us HellJumpers always get the worst work. Oh crap, I see I have an announcement to make.
"Good news, bad news time guys." Everyone looks at me... I'm the guy with the Sniper Rifle... "The good news is that we've got around fifteen more minutes to think of a plan." I would say that I paused for dramatic effect... but I'm really just trying to think of how to break the bad news easier. "...bad news is that the reason we have those fifteen minutes is because that is usually how long it takes them to drop the tanks."
"TANKS?" from Leen... of course.
"...tank... just one... if they were dropping two we might have had twenty minutes." I say. Leen is now white as a ghost. Master Chief decided to leave lots of squshed Covenant bodies on the ground here... I guess the Covenent that are here now didn't like that very much. I see something else... a few Elites wearing Black armor. I tell the guys. "...awww... shi..."
*CRACK!*
Leen shouts "DAMNIT STOKER! what are you shooting at?"
"Just saw a Gold Elite drop down... figured I could say hi for us." I'm a good shot... that's why I have the rifle... god I hate Leen.
"What happened?" he asks.
"Well... he kinda spun around and then fell... the Covenant... yeah they looke pretty pissed off now."
*CRACK*
*CRACK*
*CRACK*
"... oooh yeah... now they are REALLY pissed." I say as I reload my rifle. A few of the guys snicker as Leen wets his pants... maybe literally.
"Bring up that warthog MC left." I say... I just found a Covenant grenade... A plan has formed. Leen steps aside now... he usually does whenever someone makes a decision. "Ok... uhhh Chandresskar, you've tossed one of these before?" I ask our man with the most experience. "Oh yeah... pretty good boom in them. They have a few seconds of time before they go off... after they stick." "Think you could throw one of these as good as you throw one of ours?" I ask... if not I need a better plan. "Yeah man, easy... they're pretty light actually."
Yay.
"Ok guys here it is... everyone put all your frags but one in the warthog." They dont like that... but they know I've been in these sort of situations before... so soon enough the warthog is loaded with 8 grenades. "hurry guys... that tanks just about active." Those damn things can MOVE. I tell everyone the plan from here on... Leen likes it, he says so. I don't give a crap. And it starts...
We push down the warthog toward the Covenant tank... once it gets a good head start it begins to barrel down at the bastards. We hang back... I'd laugh if I wasn't so nervous... as the Covenant watch a battered warthog speed toward them, we put a dead Elite in the driver seat with a dead grunt in his lap... I think it kinda through them off for a bit.
*CRACK*
"twofer." I say... got two Elites with one shot... I suppose you could call that my trademark. Now when Covenant hears a sniper shot... they usually freeze for about two seconds, then bolt for their weapons, i'm counting on them going for the tank... the shot was the signal to Chandresskar. He tosses the grenade... Bullseye! It sticks to the warthog... and three perfect seconds later it crashes into the tank and detonates... chain reaction time baby. All the frags go boom... with the tank. I was right about them running to the tank after my shot. The grunts are running away now... they do that. The other guys handle them. During the explosion I picked off the rest of the Elites. I'm realoading when Leen shouts "CHAAAARGE!" and runs out to face the Covenant... alone. We all just stand up and watch his dumb ass run. Oh yeah it's funny... but I'd rather laugh at it back on the ship.
"Good to see you grew some balls there sir...but uh, they're all dead now. So how about calling in the dropship?"
"Uhhh... oh yeah... Uh... Radio!"
"...It's in your helmet sir."
"Right! good man."
You know I'm not a violent man... but I really will have to shoot Leen if he's my commander next time around. I'd shoot him now... but I'm out of bullets.
