Tears of a Lekgolo

Authors Note: I am writing this to try and get my imaginative juices flowing. None of the characters have any real history. This is just a random snippet of battle. Enjoy. (I am sorry MCC, I had to.)

"Gaghap, take right. Jaryap, take left. Use your fuel rod cannons to flush them out," whispered Garna Ornathee. "Parunga, you come with me."

The relationship between Parunga and Garna was a bizarre one indeed. Not many Lekgolo liked Sangheili. There weren't many Lekgolo that were without a bond brother either. But Parunga was an exception to that rule. Now they worked as a team, Parunga covering Garna with his shield and Garna protecting Parunga's exposed rear.

The sounds of the fuel rod cannons being discharged was the signal for Parunga and Garna to move out. With a thunderous roar they charged, covering the charred and blackened ground that stood between them and the Brute encampment in seconds. Parunga lifted his heavy modified fuel rod cannon and sent a vibrant green column toward the first of the charging Jiralhanae. The giant bear like creature was vaporized from the waist up, causing a few of the other warriors to trip over his legs.

Garna drew his sword and powered on his arm shield. He, unlike other Sangheili, wore a Jackal shield on top of his full body energy shielding. He favored using sword and shield rather than conventional plasma weapons.

Grenades from the inaccurate weapons that the Jiralhanae wielded blew chunks of rock and dust into the air all around them. Another column of fiery terror belched from Parunga's arm cannon, this time engulfing a Brute shot and setting off multiple secondary explosions. The Ungoy soldiers fell back, continuing to lob fiery green meteors over the Lekgolo and Sangheili's heads, forcing to Brutes into a tight formation. Finally they reached their enemy ranks. The Ungoy stopped firing so as not to hit their allies.

The many razor sharp spines on Parunga's back stood on end. One unlucky Brute warrior strayed too close to the Hunter's back and didn't even have time to feel the alloy coated spine pass through his neck, sending his head rolling and thick dark blood pouring forth.

Garna wielded his sword with deadly accuracy, instantly slaying anything that drew too near. "Parunga! Keep your shield and body low! They have Kig-Yar snipers!" In answer Parunga hunched over and started running through the Brute forces. He raised his cannon and fired a sustained burst, sweeping the deadly green blur across the top of the rise where the Jackals were hiding. Four headless Jackal bodies rolled down the slope.

Most of the Brutes that had made the initial charge were dead now. But there were one or two left over from the slaughter. Garna made sure that Parunga was well covered and then dashed forward. He lunged with all his strength and cut a Jiralhanae in half down the middle. It fell in two. He heard the sound of a charging Brute behind him but had no time to react. He spun as fast as his powerful leg muscles would take him but it wasn't going to be enough. Then out of nowhere a massive alloy shield slammed into the Jiralhanae. Loud sickening popping noises announced half of the bones in his body splintering with the impact.

The last of the Brutes from the fight were dead. Now all that had to be done was finish the ones in the base. The two battle hardened warriors slowly pushed forward to the base. When they reached the bottom of the rise that had housed the Kig-Yar Garna wrenched a particle beam rifle from one of the headless Jackal's hands. He looked at the battery meter and noted that it was at one hundred percent. Parunga must have gotten him before he even fired a shot.

"Go on ahead. I shall cover you my friend." As Garna said this he was already in a crouched run, heading toward a cliff near that overlooked the base. He set the magnification on the rifle to eight times normal and scanned the area all around his Hunter friend. There were no immediate threats. Good. Once on top of the cliff he situated himself where he could see everything. Finally he sent a message to Parunga.

"Try to get them to come out the right side of the base. That will make things easier for me."

"I shall," was the simple reply of the Giant tank like warrior that walked toward the base.

Garna could see green flashes of light emitting from the slots and the open roof of the base. Sure enough, three Kig-Yar and five Jiralhanae ran from the base. One by each the Kig-Yar went down as the purple lances of energy stuck them. Now to take care of those Jiralhanae. Garna was an extremely good shot and almost never missed. He had to be careful to his the Brutes beneath the metal plate that was fastened to their head. Otherwise the energy would just glance off. His first shot took the closest brute in the eye. It made a dime sized hole going in and out, but the heat turned the creature's brains to paste. After a few more, well placed shots and the rest of the Brutes were slain.

Garna heard the sound of a Banshee powering up and was stunned. How had they gotten their hands on a Banshee? Garna raised Parunga on the COM. "There is a Banshee in the air. Use extreme caution. Take it down if you can."
The stunned Sangheili watched through his optics as a green pillar of plasma struck the Banshee head on. It turned to face this new harasser and when it did Garna fired. He cleanly blew one of the canards off of the Banshee but before he could sight on the other the small air craft flipped over and aimed straight at him. The small attack craft was now out of the Hunter's range and Garna was at the mercy of its plasma turrets. Twin blue lines of molten plasma streamed toward the frightened Elite's position but there was nothing he could do.

Powerful leg muscles sent the Sangheili flying over the cliff edge. He braced for the impact and let his legs absorb most of the blow. His shields dropped to zero however and he was momentarily stunned by the impact. He rolled onto his back and saw the Banshee lazily turn and bring its guns to bear on him. It fired only one bright blue globe of plasma that lazily fell toward him. He wanted to move but couldn't force himself to do so. His one multi-chambered lung didn't want to draw in air. Garna knew that he was going to die. Just before the plasma struck he was able to bring up Parunga on the COM.

       "Goodbye my friend."
