The Master Chief, flying away
In tattered green hide
With a few of his fellow comrades
From what was soon to be a small, bright sun
Hid behind a moon.

Confusion was everywhere.
Death was imminent
For the dozens
Of sleek, brightly colored Covenant ships
Waiting to eliminate the human race.

He arrives at his ship,
But instead of mainly seeing
A purple, glittering monolith
Floating in the endless space,
He was met by a battered vessel,
Looming around the moon.

Then Haverson's voice floods his head.
"I realized that even with
The small star, about to blossom
On this forsaken rock,
Most of the Covenant would not perish.

Remember the Alamo.
A stunning defeat,
But a brilliant strategic victory."

Then, the remains of a shining, bending artifact
Built by the Forerunners, long ago
Flashed on hundreds of crystal screens.

The legions of vessels
Zoomed near the derelict Covenant ship
Preparing to fire
TYheir glowing cannons,
Huddled in one small ball
Around the center of the base.

Suddenly,
A soundless, eerie flash
Followed by a fireball
Consumed the hundreds of fearless vessels
And turned them into dust.

With only a few enemies left,
The Master Chief would have time
To alert Earth
And save humanity again.

The last words of Haverson,
Still ringing true,
Rang in his ears.

"A brilliant strategic victory," he whispered.
