Note from Author: Well i got bothered by the fact that they never say how they covered the deaths of all those from the first halo. Figured i'd take a shot at explaining the ONI cover story. As always comments are appreciated. Dont look for a sequal to this one though, i leave it to the imagination.

The sun was still shining brightly on the neighborhood. The houses where arranged the way they had been for hundreds of years, side by side and across from each other. A solid black hog carrying the blue flag of the UNSC rounded the street corner. Inside an unknown Major and Catholic priest waited to deliver their message to a un expecting family. The hog slowed as the driver double checked his GPS, making sure this was the house. As the hog came to a stop, their was not a sign of movement outside the house. The sprinklers continued as they always would, and trash awaiting pickup on the curve. 3 men excited the hog, and slowly began walking up the sidewalk. As they reached the door they all made sure they where prepared for what was sure to happen. The Major knocked three times, and they heard movement as someone came to answer it. The door opened and a little girl stood standing their. "Are your parents home, Miss?" the little girl nodded and walked back into the house. 2 minutes passed before a man probably no older then 40 came to the door. Upon seeing the soldiers he froze in terror. "What, what can I do for you?" The Major knew that the man already knew why they where there. The priest awaited to provide aid in any way he could. "Sir, it is my unfortunate duty to inform you that your son, Private First Class Wallace A. Jenkins, was killed in action at or around September 8th, 2552. He died defending his ship and its Captain." The Major waited a few seconds to continue. He wanted to make sure the man was hearing what he was saying. "We now hand you this Silver Star posthumously." The major handed over a small box, inside was the only honor PFC. Jenkins would get. He then took a small folded flag from the Cpl. standing next to him, and handed it to the man. The priest walked inside the house with the man so that he could help comfort the family.

The Major walked slowly back down the pathway, with the Cpl. following behind. As they neared the hog, the little girl wondered out onto the front lawn, she looked straight into the eyes of the Major, as if trying to read his mind. He wasn't sure if she knew what was going on, but he figured she knew something had changed. The Major entered the hog, and it began to slowly drive away. As he looked into his rear view mirror, he saw the little girl. She slowly lifted her hand to her head and saluted the Major as he drove away. He angrily turned on the radio in the hog, connecting him directly to ONI headquarters. "Cover story: 00157-Gamma delivered as ordered Colonel. 324 more to go...." The hog drove away back the way it had come. It had once been asked by a small child if it was the grim reaper, but that was entirly false. Atleast the grim reaper told you the truth, that you where dead. How could you explain that someones son or daughter was turned into a parasitic zombie, bent on finding the location of more food. This was the only thought that kept the Major sain, and from pulling out his M6D and shooting himself.

The priest had been left behind at the house for emotional reasons. When his job was done a car would be sent for him. He was currently trying to comfort the mother, telling her that her sons life wasn't wasted, but that he had died a hero. The father had walked upstairs, into the suns room. It slowly brought back memories, a baseball game, a first ride on a bicycle, and first loves. He layed the flag down unto the bed. He opened the little box and set it onto the pillow. It would become a shrine to honor their fallen son, so that his sacrifce would never be forgotten. He walked back down stairs and hugged his wife. The priest promised them both that their son would be waiting for them, and he would be given a heros welcome.
