The first lesson a revolutionary must learn is that he is a doomed man. Unless he understands this, he does not grasp the essential meaning of his life.
-Huey Newton

There is something about a rifle that is romantic. The action of the bolt, the subtle click before the muzzle blast, and the press of the butt pad into your shoulder. The power you feel knowing that the man in your sights life is in your hands and that he is depending on you to let him live is intoxicating. But alas, you always let them down.

I have shot, beaten, stabbed, and destroyed. All for what? For a better tomorrow? No, that day will never come, Not for me anyway. In the end I will lose, just as those before me. All I can do is hope that someone else will continue the fight after I am gone. Death is here. I can feel it.

      "Don't move!" says the Marine.

"Who is he kidding?" I think to myself.

With a quick, trained motion I draw my pistol and fire it into the marine's chest. The slide locks open. I whip the pistol at the nearest marine and charge at her to no avail. I feel the slashing of the bullets. I know I am dead. I fall face first. I land in front of the marine I threw the pistol at. She curses. I grab at her boot. Why was I fighting? There was no reason. I love the government. I was a fool.

      "I'm sorry." I mutter.

"Like hell." she replies and points her SMG at my head.

      Blackness.

      A week before...

"The UNSC is hear for you." the radio says with fake compassion.

"Right, And I am a General. Rubbish." I think with disgust.

Well, it is time to goto work. I grab my rifle. A modified 1903 Springfield that has been passed down for generations within my family. I only recently updated the rifle. I added a ten round internal box magazine and changed the caliber from 30.06 to 30.60. The round is more current and is available but still keeps the round pretty much the same. I also replaced the wooden stock with a fiber force stock and added a threaded barrel and a suppressor. I check my PDA for my objective. A man by the name of Col. William Gibbs. He is running an operation to destroy the rebels here. I read the E-mail more carefully.

Your Target will be addressing the city in the courtyard of the main
UNSC base in Philadelphia at 1830. He is expected to declare marshal
law. Kill him before this happens. Beware: There is a full squad of ODSTs
and a Spartan in the area.
      Good Luck.

"Well Shit! A squad of ODSTs is bad enough. But a Spartan! This is retarded!" I say out loud.

I grab my handgun, a USP chambered in 40 caliber with a suppressor. I will need this. I grab a knife as an afterthought. You never know. I put my rifle back. It will be too difficult to infiltrate with a huge rifle across my back.

As I walk toward the base I feel the adrenaline start to pump through me. I fight to keep it down. Guards. Damn. I turn around and walk the other direction. there has to be a different way into the base. I look at my options. I could try to go through the front door. Suicide. I could try my luck as a tight rope walker and go from roof to roof. No way. I'd break a leg for sure. Confused I look at the ground. I see a manhole. Of course! I open the cover as a bus goes by and jump in. I almost barf from the stench. I will need to get new boots after this. My PDA beeps. I am surprised that I am getting a signal. I open the E-mail and it says:
Get out! They know!

"SHIT!" I yell and turn to run back. Flashlights greet me.

"Cease and Desist!" The man behind the flashlight orders. I throw a grenade and run like hell was right behind. I dunk around a corner and hear the thump of the grenade followed by screams. I activate my flashlight and look around the corner to see a group of three dead ODSTs. Looks like hell was right behind me. I chuckle and grab the dead ODST's SMG. I start looking for ammo. I hear something.

"Go! Go! GO!" an ODST yells. I turn around and open up with the SMG. The recoil feels good. Click. Damn. I drop the SMG and run. Bullets hit the walls all all around me. I run faster. I run head first into a ladder. Clunk.

      Blackness.
