Why should I help you in your hour of need?
Why when it is I on your fear that does feed.
It's good to see you in such pain,
Knowing you can be hurt again and again.

The child forsaken, the forgotten son,
You shall see me again, before eternity done.
Weep your thousand tears, lament the dead and gone.
See through watery eyes, how the chaos was won.

You bore us in writhing agony,
            Then chained us in solitude.
            We out-waited indignation,
            Vengeance kept us soothed.

Smelling kin we sensed was close,
They unleashed us from the chains.
We wrought death on them in droves,
            Picking up their empty manes.

It was our chance to rise from Halo, rise through its flames,
No more war of attrition, no time for little games.
Petty sibling rivalry, kept them from the horrid truth,
That we are the firstborn, they are just the youth.

Veil'd in skins of sisters and brothers,
Hunting down our fathers and mothers.
We knew we would find you someday,
Knowing of the toll that you must now pay.

Daylight will be just a memory, hear us happily sing,
You shall witness our glory, unable to do a thing.
And now the hour, that final hour has come.
In stolen eyes it will dawn, on restless oblivion.

We sought you out in every corner of space,
In every fleeing ship that once did gleam,
            Covenant: Human, every race,
Reduced to echoes of our primal scream.
