Staring up at the darkened sky she frowned. The heavens glowed with an anger unheard of in centuries. Fear traced up her spine and sweat trickled down her brow, she clutched her rifle in a very protective manner. Scars marked the weapon and the butt was covered in a brackish, now coagulated blood. No doubt mix of alien and human blood. Taking in a deep breath she looked down at her weapon, the ammunition counter read thirty-two. The MA5C was the newest upgrade to the UNSC arsenal.

The accuracy of the weapon as well as the damaging capability of the rounds had been significantly increased, however as everything in this war. It came at a price, a reduced clip size. While the increased accuracy and more potent rounds were a welcoming solution, however the lack of extra ammunition was discomforting. But it was a war, she was a soldier. Soldiers didn't get to pick what they wanted.

Looking back up she squinted as the sun slowly made itself present over the horizon. Its morning rays penetrated the thick black clouds of fury that rumbled and tumbled across the fragmented plains. Lightning flashed at infinite will, which only followed by it's own anger. The air vibrated as the sound reacher her ears.

Suddenly a second sun ignited near the horizon, she was forced to close her eyes and turn away as the light became to intense to focus upon. In the passing seconds the light faded and was soon replaced with a towering mushroom cloud. Anger welled up within her as her palm dug into the grip of her assault rifle. So much beauty was being damaged for the sake of what could have been a misunderstanding on an interstellar scale.

"Is that what they call you now? Master Chief? Spartan-117? Do you like that name... John?"

Slinging the rifle across her back she pulled out a pair of keys, the sunlight reflected off the polished steel. She smirked as the keys looked almost like the most valuable metal on this side of the universe. But then again they were probably the most important thing on this side of the universe. They were her ticket from this jungle to the space port.

The walk back to the mongoose was relatively short and she enjoyed the serene atmosphere, for it would soon disappear no doubt to plasma and bullets. Inserting the keys into the ignition she started the vehicle. A growling noise came from the engine, then again and finally it started. Finally it settled into idle, gas flowing and igniting. Generating energy to keep the pistons within the engine going to keep the system active.

Fluidly she entered a small password that activated a small panel on the mongoose. A small whir of a motor caused the top of the mongoose seating to reveal a symmetrical line which pulled back to reveal a bottle. Another whir, a click and then an ejection hiss. The bottle flew straight up into the air, only to be caught by a hand in a graceful motion.

She twisted the cap off and placed the opening of the bottle to her lips. Pausing for a moment she smirked to her self and let the water flow. Her throat was rejuvenated by the dual hydrogen-single oxygen pair. Excess water escaped her lips and began it's journey towards the earth. First the throat, then down past her neck and finally the down her breasts.

Finishing the water she tightly secured the cap on the bottle before inserting it into the slot within the mongoose and watched with a remote fascination as the bottle slowly lowered itself into the slot before the covers moving back into position and making the slot disappear. Hitting another series of keys, she pulled rolled back onto the throttle and heard the engine growl as more gas coursed into the system.

Looking back up at the sky she smiled, maybe being on this side of the universe wasn't so bad.

"Don't end the game just yet John." Hitting the D selection on the key pad, she cut back on the throttle and disappeared into the forest.

The butt of the rifle contacted with the skull of a brute, sending the beast reeling back in a temporary state of confusion. Seconds later a trio of armor piercing bullets escaped the barrel of the rifle and made contact with it's head. The skull caved in under the kinetic force, blood and gore exploded outwards from the backside of the skull.

He looked and smiled, despite the anger the sky claimed against the creatures of the world. The game wasn't over. No, it wasn't over yet. It was jut receiving a new player.
