      Chapter 1
Halo
2000 hours

Mark starred at the man across from him, as he waited for orders from the commander. He sat in a small cave, somewhere on the colder frontier of this newly discovered planet called "Halo." It was snowing hard for the third day straight, and the snow was affecting everyone's ability to see.
"What are you looking at rookie? " the man said.
"Sorry," Mark said. "It's just been so unbearable waiting in this cave, knowing that we'll probably die when our chance comes to make a move."
""Don't think like that," Corporal Dickinson said. "We are Helljumpers damn it, and we have to make risks like that. If you're afraid to die, and fight for our survival, then why don't you just waltz right over the aliens and surrender?"
"Sorry sir," Mark said. Mark lowered his head and thought about his life back in training. He had to overcome a lot of obstacles, but none trained him for the mental effects of snow. Mark got up and walked outside. He could see a tiny black spec, which was Library #2 . He knew that the Master Chief was sent about a day ago, to Library #1 . The Helljumpers were sent to eliminate the second library. What the hell could be in there? Mark asked himself.
"Mark, get back in here," one of his squad mates said. Mark re-entered the cave and his commander was talking.
"Men, we just got an order from General Wilkins on the Ezekiel . Our orders are to rush the Library #2 full force, so the Covenant will be too confused to know what hit them. This attack will begin at 0300 hours, so be prepared. I'll see to it that each and every one of you, know what your jobs are. As you were"
       "I heard something," Mark said.
"What was it?" Commander Patterson said."
"It sounded like a loud screech," Mark said. "Anyway it's---
The cave was shaken suddenly. Dust settled on every Helljumper's shoulders as they waited to in fright.
"It's a Banshee," Commander Patterson said. "Everyone out of the cave now!" All of the men grabbed their equipment, and ran out of the cave, onto the snow-covered plateau.
I could see nothing to hide behind, so I pulled out my MA5B, and fired at what I could see of the Banshee. As I fired, I retreated a ways back from the cave. I knew it would soon crumble, and we could use the debris as cover. The only noise I could hear at this moment was guns, and Banshees flying overhead. The noise of those wretched machines really started to tick me off. I fired my gun as accurate as I could, so that awful nose would just go away. It hadn't ceased, however, the cave finally fell.
"Come on Mark!" Antonio yelled to me. He signaled me to follow him to the debris pile. I sprinted towards it, but a Banshee opened fire on me. Quickly, I dove to avoid injury, and slid up against the pile. I felt all over my body to see if there were any injuries, none.
"They must've tapped our transmission to the Ezekiel ," Antonio yelled. "Damn Covenant."
"Where's your weapon?" I yelled back to Antonio as he and I hugged the debris pile.
"Right here," Antonio said. He tilted his back towards me. I could see a M199 SM Rocket Launcher strapped to his back. He unbuckled it, and loaded it carefully. " I'd cover your ears." I took his warning, and the rocket was propelled from its container. The Banshee tried to elude the rocket, but it was being followed. It burst into flame, and blew up. I thought that the battle was over, but the single Banshee was just a distraction. From our defenseless backs, two Covenant drop ships landed on the plateau. I group of fifteen Grunts opened fire on our squad. Men were dropping like flies to the barrage of plasma. It was impossible to escape.
Mark turned, and fired his MA5B at the hoard of Grunts. He was tearing them apart along with the help of the rest of his squad. Blood soaked the ground where the Grunts once stood. And over that ground, more Grunts, along with a few Elites, were being deployed. Guns just kept firing, even though the Helljumpers were no match for the Elites. Some of these beats fell, while others got right in the Helljumpers' faces, and tore them apart. Mark was scared, but he kept fighting. Library #2 had to be destroyed.
