One of those days at Ivory Tower

He instantly knew that this was going to be one of those days. In the pre-mission room all his team members were… weird. One of them was completely quiet, which was good. Silence meant that a soldier was preparing for the op. But the two other soldiers, they were different. One of them was singing. Flip music by the sound of it, and the other said clicking noises. Even the mission bugged him. They were going to visit the infamous Ivory Tower, where they were going to conquer the red team's flag as many times as possible. He didn't know why. After all, he was only a soldier, and he let the egg heads at ONI and HIGH COM decide what was going to happen. He followed orders.
The op started. Their base was in one end of Ivory Towers, where two stairs lead to a circular platform. The flag stood tall in their middle. They had to defend this round.
One of his team members, a soldier with the slightly odd call name xXRyanXx quickly said: "I'm taking Rockets!". 'Rockets', of course was the nickname the M41 SSR rocket launcher had received through many a heated battle. Good, he thought. A rocket launcher is a formidable weapon against an unprepared foe. Another member of his team quickly ran towards the left of the area. Here an overshield was placed, and if they were lucky, the red team had ignored the energy sword in the basement. Suddenly a red X appeared on his HUD. That meant that one of his team members had been killed. He quickly scanned his surroundings. The X hovered at the top of the Red base. He quickly checked his team roster. Yes, it appeared that Killah Face 3 had been killed near the SRS99C-S2 AM sniper rifle. He had to assume that the powerful rifle was in the hands of the Red team now. He could only hope that the enemy was a lousy shot. He quickly ran op the stairs to the left. He knew that just up the stairs was a plasma rifle. Combined with the SMG it was a brilliant weapon. Just up the stairs he stopped. A red soldier came running towards him. No a big problem, he thought. But then a gleaming blue white thing appeared in the soldier's hand. Shit, he muttered. The red team had the energy sword. The sword was capable of a disastrous attack, where the wielder launched across the battlefield to kill the enemy. He quickly did the only thing he could. He sidestepped. Sometimes it worked, and the wielder launched past the enemy, and as luck would have it, this was just his lucky day. He had sidestepped just in time, and the red soldier whizzed right past him. He quickly turned and attacked the red soldier, who was a bit confused. He attacked, not with gunfire, but with the butt of the SMG. It succeeded. A hollow 'thud' and the red soldier fell to the ground. Dead as a rock. Now the blue team had the energy sword, something that could give them the edge in the battle. He had just picked up the sword when he heard a distant rumble. He turned half when suddenly he flew through the air. "Sorry," a voice in his speakers said. He landed in a heap on the floor. He cursed. No one could hear him, because he was dead. Apparently, someone had betrayed him. xXRyanXx was supposed to have the rocket launcher, and he hadn't seen xXRyanXx as a red X on the roster yet. He muttered for a few seconds until he respawned. He wasn't fully aware of the technique behind respawning, but it meant that a complete copy of him, along with armour suddenly appeared. It was a nifty invention, because it allowed everyone to continue fighting, without fearing death. He hadn't been alive for many moments before he heard a loud 'PANG'. A bullet smashed through his visor, continued into his head where bone and brain was rendered into fine mush. The bullet smashed its way through the back of his helmet and buried itself in a concrete wall behind him.
Once again, he was dead. He had completely forgotten about the sniper rifle. Worse, the sniper rifle was primed at the respawn spot. That meant the sniper could kill everyone who either respawned there, or who just passed the spot. Lethal.

"Fuck you!" He had just respawned when this delightful message chimed through his in-helmet speakers. "What," he asked. Only his team members had access to the secure COM.
"Fuck you," the unhappy trooper exclaimed once again. The speaker was the third member of the team. ProphetOfRegret was apparently not too happy with the situation. "I'm leaving your newb asses. You so bad at this!" He couldn't leave in the middle of combat, he thought. A little message in his HUD informed him that ProhetOfRegret had indeed "quit the game". Three against four, not the best odds.

Killah Face 3 had a solution though. "I have an idea," he said. He couldn't have chosen a better time, because in the confusion a red soldier has stolen the flag. "What's the idea," he asked while trying to kill the flag carrier. It didn't help because while he peppered the red soldier, who his HUD informed him was called PS2 Playkid DK, with SMG fire, two other red soldiers splashed his back with shotgun shells and dual plasma fire. Not a pleasant way to die. The round ended far to quickly.

The next round started. This time they had to get the flag. They had also switched bases with the reds, which meant their base was in the basement. "What's the plan," he asked again. Before Killah Face 3 could answer, xXRyanXx interrupted. "You guys," he said. "I'm leaving you for a while. My mother's yelling at me." Then he stopped moving, and just stood there. "Well," he asked.
"Just look at this," Killah Face 3 said. Smirking by the sound of it. Ivory Tower disappeared. A blue screen informed him that the game was connecting. Ivory Tower came back. What happened? He pulled up his team roster again. What ever Killah Face 3 tried to do, it failed and left him alone. Well, xXRyanXx was still there, but still as a statue. Then the voices came. A clever invention in the MJOLNIR armour allowed him to pick of enemy transmissions if they were broadcasted from a position close enough. The red team was closing in. Spawnkilling for sure. He had to leave xXRyanXx, though he hated it. He ran through the tunnel towards the energy sword. He heard an explosion and a lot of laughter. They had blown xXRyanXx sky high. Damn it.

Screw this, he thought. He didn't need this. If ProphetOfRegret could do it, so could he. Just before he picked the option, to quit this battle he heard something. "Okay, I'm back. Where are you guys?" Then another explosion, followed by the cackling laughter.
