Covenant system Golden
ONI recon
10/2/2578

A small slipstream point formed in the deep space of the Covenant system, and a small ONI prowler came out. The prowler was night black, and with stealth systems, was invisible. The prowler was on a routine scouting mission. Its ion engines fired a bit before cutting out, to avoid Covenant scanners, and the prowler drifted, it's powerful scanners on full.

The prowler continued to drift in space. It scanned Covenant ships, installations, and planets. Just then something cought the eye of the prowler's crew.

Around Golden, the Covenant planet in the system, was a big fleet of ships. Normally, Covenant planets were protected by 30 or 40 ships, but some 200 Covenant warships orbitted the planet.

Captain Harding of the prowler was curious. "What's in the Covenant fleet", he said.

"108 frigates, 42 destroyers, 20 cruisers, and 17 assault carriers. These ships are also armed with weaponry I've never seen before. They all have some electro-molecular cannon. In theory, this weapon would bind all of the atoms in the target area, somewhat freezing it. It wouldn't be too effective against UNSC ships. Another thing, they're all charging their electro-molecular cannons", said the scanner officer.

"Status on Covenant fleet?", asked Harding. "Nothing yet... Oh wait... Covenant fleet moving towards star", said the scanner officer.

The Golden system had only one star, a yellow giant. Golden was the closest planet to the star.

"Sir, I'm reading very unusual plasma fluctuations in the star. They're also rising to the surface. They're big, too", said the scanner officer.

The small prowler still drifted along and recorded this.

"Plasma fluxuations reaching surface", said the scanner officer.

The Covenant fleet stood above the star, and a massive fireball of orange and yellow plasma came out. It was about the size of a small moonlet, about 160 kilometers i length. It was vaguely egg-shaped, with fire rolling around it.

The fireball then stopped in front of the Covenant formation.

"That plasma thing has got to be a ship. The thing is highly organized. It's entirely made of plasma", said the scanner officer.

The Covenant fleet then charged towards the fireball, their electro-molecular weapons ready. The fireball remained still, then a massive surge of plasma shot out of the fireball, a solar flare of it's own. The flare of plasma hit the Covenant ships, covering them in a fulcrum of energy, crashing through sheilds and melting their hulls.

The single plasma flare destroyed nearly a third of the Covenant fleet. A dozen or so fireballs rose out of the star to meet the Covenant threats. The Covenant ships fired their electro-molecular weapons at the leading fireball. Black dots appeared on the fireball, and then grew. The feiry energy of the fireball dies out.

"The Covenant ships are freezing the fireball", said the scanner officer.

The fireball lashed out another plasma flare, destroying more Covenant ships, and then the dozen following fireballs destroyed the rest in a blaze of plasma. The 13 fireballs then moved at very high speeds towards the planet.

The fireballs surrounded the Covenant planet, and then lashed at it with plasma flares, glassing the surface and destroying everything in it's way. After a couple minutes of this, the fireballs then went back to their star and into the depths of the solar plasma seas.

The small prower recorded all of this, then created a slipstream exit vector and went back to ONI intelligence, reporting all that they have seen.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, the reason why you have been called here", said the general at the head of the table.

"ONI intelligence has just recently released this", he followed.

The lights dimmed, and in the hologram at the center of the table, it was from the small prowler, recording the Covenant system.

It then showed the Covenant fleet charge their electro-molecular weapons and move towards the star. The fireball, what they actually called an alien vessel, came out towards the Covenant ships, fired a plasma flare.

The Covenant ships then fired their electro-molecular weaponry at the alien fireball vessel, cooling the ship made out of plasma.

The alien fireball vessels then fired plasma flares at the Covenant ships, decimated their small fleet, and then completely destroyed Golden, before returning to the depths of their star.

"We don't know what those fireballs are, but ONI intelligence records them as alien vessels, since they can move on their own, and even have weaponry", said the general.

"Does this mean that the Covenant have a second enemy?", asked a Commodore from across the room.

"Very possibly, yes. We must find these aliens that live in the stars, contact them, and possibly make an alliance", said the general.

The military leaders in the meeding room began to talk with eachother, about if they could form an alliance with those mysterious alien fireball vessels.

The Covenant's new enemy.
