AN UNEXPECTED LANDING

The POA raced through space on full alert as a covenant fleet chased it. The fleet was closing in when captain Keyes pushed the self-destruct button on the Pillar Of Autumn's control panel. Alerts went all through the massive ship as soldiers scrambled to escape pods. Master chief found the last pod and shot into space, discovering a large ring floating near the Pillar of Autumn.

The escape pod and crew prepared for impact upon the ring. Upon entering Halo's atmosphere, the escape pod's engines caught fire and shut down, causing the pod to undergo a rough landing. As the pod hit the ground covenant patrols were already surrounding it. Master chief walked out, assault rifle in hand, and shot anything that moved. Unfortunately, all of his crew weren't among the moving. They had all died in the crash.

Master chief saw a banshee flying by and with three direct shotgun blows, it fell out of the sky, landing directly on top of many covenant grunts. Master chief pushed forward, inspecting "Halo". After fighting his way through for hours, he discovered an Echo flying around, getting chased by Banshees and a Covenant dropship. He patched through to the drivers radio and signaled her to fly his direction. She did so, and the master chief pulled out his rocket launcher and destroyed the Covenant dropship. This got the banshees' attention, so they immediately turned and headed for him. He pulled out his shotgun, and blasted away.

The Echo landed, and master chief climbed aboard, departing away to save some soldiers who were pinned down. As they hovered over the supposed battleground, all they saw was dead bodies and black scorches on the ground. "were too late" master chief said to the driver of Echo. The driver then said, "oh you think? Actually they're hiding in the rocks. I'll land you and you can aid them some help." "I don't think they'll be needing help, master chief said. There's no one there attacking them." The driver said "oh yes there will. We hacked into Covenant radio, and heard them talking about attacking marines in this sector. They will need your help very soon".

The Echo landed, Master chief jumped out, and gunfire sounded. "Sounds like they're here early." Master chief mumbled to himself. One Covenant Grunt showed up, then another, and another. More showed up, and a few Elites. Master chief began gunning them all down. No sign of any Marines willing to help. Just then, more Grunts showed up, accompanied with two Hunters. A full squadron of Elites appeared in the distance, tagging along with a Covenant Wraith Tank. The situation looked bad.

THE BATTLE

The full squadron of Covenant was rushing up the hill. Master chief hid behind a rock and waited patiently for them. All of the sudden, some twenty Marines rushed out from the rocks, and opened fire on the Covenant. At this signal, Master chief popped out and began shooting. The Covenant were caught completely unalarmed, and many died. All Of the sudden, Hunters opened fire upon the Marines with their fuel rod guns. Wraith Tanks fired from the distance. A Covenant dropship showed up and dropped off some more reinforcements. Covenant were arriving by the second. Master chief called in an Echo to drop off reinforcements.

"Negative Master chief! I repeat- Negative!" The Echo pilot patched in. "Banshees are closing in on me and Shades are firing at me from the ground! I'm going down!" Master chief, realizing that reinforcements were not going to come, decided to kill the Covenant himself. He popped out from his hiding place, grenades in hands, pulled the pins, and chucked them at the Hunters.

Another Covenant dropship came in, and dropped off more reinforcements. Everyone hopped out, and immediately began to shoot at Master chief. Just then, two Marine Warthogs, a Marine Scorpion Tank, and an Echo Entered the area. One Warthog stopped right next to Master chief, and he hopped on the turret. The Marine drove the Warthog into the heat of the battle. The Scorpion Tank was just behind it. The Marine driving the other Warthog was busy running- over Covenant. Two more Covenant dropships also showed up.

One Covenant dropship was about to unload its cargo, when the Scorpion Tank and both Warthogs began to gun it down. Before the dropship even had a chance to fire its weapon, it exploded and fell to the ground. The other one however, landed and dropped off its cargo of 5 Grunts, and 3 Elites. The Echo landed at this time also, and unloaded a few Marines.

The soldiers ran toward the tank, and another Covenant dropship appeared. The battle started to get more intense, and all seemed hopeless. More and more dropships showed up every minute, and constantly unloaded Covenant troops. All of the sudden, Master Chief got a transmission from a Longsword bomber telling him to evacuate the area. Master Chief accepted, and his soldiers offered to stay behind so the Covenant wouldn't follow him. It was a tough decision, but he was forced to leave.

Master Chief got out of the area, and signaled the bomber. It got within range and dropped its payload of bombs in the area. Everything was completely annihilated in the blast, including the Marines who stayed behind. An Echo soon came, and picked Master Chief up.
