Project Sabotage - Part 1
Date: 10 October 2003, 1:36 AM

The hall was cold as 'Private First Class' David Thalman briskly walked toward the briefing room. He opened the air locked door and everyone turned and made notice of his late arrival. He sat down in the closest seat available.
"Your late." Ensued Commander Wilkins who was giving the briefing.
David, with a look of shame on his face was embarrassed by his lack of time planning.
The Commander began again.
"This jungle is very rainy and swampy, but it is the one shot we have to make it into the covenant stronghold. You have a list of weapons and miscellaneous stuff you have to pack along. Any further questions will be answered by the man that is heading out this operation, Master Chief."
The room fell silent of meaningless chatter as the 7'0 super soldier, stood behind the podium. He grabbed a chip out of his helmet and inserted it into a disk drive.
"Good morning too all of you!" a female voice sounded from nowhere.
Everyone looked around the room astonished at the voice being heard.
"I hope all of you have read over your briefing statements, because now comes the time that we choose who comes along on this mission and who stays."
The M.C. was handed a paper from an official and set it on the podium.
"When your name is read, come on stage and stand" Cortana said as everyone began to sweat bullets from what was about to be announced.
The M.C. looked over the list and then looked up. He announced every individual by name.
"Jacob Roundy 'Private First Class', David Thalman 'Private First Class', Justin Jenkins 'Private Second Class', Derek Haight 'Private Second Class', Joshua Greco 'Vehicle Operator', Kyle Winter 'Vehicle Operator', Jarron Homer 'Demolitions', TJ Allen 'Captain'.
There were sighs of relief for those of who had not been chosen. As the select few stood up on stage the rest were dismissed to the mess hall for dinner.
"Well gentlemen welcome aboard to 'Project Sabotage'." Cortana said too all the men standing at ease.
"I want you all to be ready for lift off at 0600hours. You are dismissed, so go and enjoy your meal, because it might be your last."
The select soldiers ran to the mess hall eager to get what was left off dinner. They all grabbed plates and the food that was being served. It was a rare occasion. Steaks, potatoes, and rolls steaming with melted butter on it. David looked around and watched all his newly acquired team feasting away at the food that was before them. He put his fork down and offered his leftovers to one of the other guys. He then got up and went to his bunk.
He layed in bed thinking about the mission to come, he would be woken up by many nightmares, but he eventually fell asleep. The alarm went off at 0530hours. He got out of bed suited up grabbed his equipment and made his way for the Pelican. When he arrived all the other soldiers were already going through equipment checks, and the 'Vehicle Operators' were inspecting the wart-hogs. He made it past the equipment checks and seated himself toward the front of the Pelican, strapped himself into the seat. Jacob was sitting in front of him. He and David exchanged a friendly handshake but David learned from experience, not to make any solid friends because either they or you wouldn't last to build on it. He waited for the last of the soldiers to get on board, and then finally the chief himself. The chief strapped himself in a seat at the rear of the vessel. The Pelican lifted with extreme force. ECHO 237 raced pass what seemed like endless jungle, when they came to a stop. The Pelican lowered its engine's and set down; by this time the M.C. was out of his seat and ready to open the bay. He pressed the button to activate the opening procedure. The bay door was fully down when the chief held his hand in a fist signaling a 'halt until I say clear'. He dropped to the swampy mess without looking down. He immediately ran toward some bushes. What seemed like an eternity but only a few minuets passed, when we all heard a voice come on the intercom.
"Code Charlie, Code Charlie" yelled Cortana.
All the soldiers jumped out of the pelican and she unloaded here 2 wart-hogs, upped the bay doors and sped out of sight. The soldiers ran for cover into any bushes or behind trees. They stayed still for a moment then the intercom faithfully broke the silence...
