Halo: Operation STAG: (Part 1) Chapter 1
Date: 10 May 2004, 12:20 AM

"I've got to get this damned thing fixed."
Luitenant Commander Alfred Hiid tapped the top of his watch.
It looked to him that his watch had stopped, but it was on time. No Space made everything move extremely slow. Naseuae set in, too. It was the worst feeling in this universe, or the next. But that's what Buzz Killers were used for. Just a purple pill about the size of a single joint in your finger. It felt like you were drunk, only with no naseuae.
A loud voice came over the speaker, "Entering Existing space in 27 minutes."
The voice on the speaker was loud, and rustled, also seeming extremely slow.
Hiid tapped a button on the side of his steel door, "Captain," he spoke in the slits that made a speaker, "Why are exiting no space so early?"
A rustled voice came back over the private speaker. At first, it was just a bunch of jumbled sounds, but then a voice spoke clearly, "Some sort of Covenant vessel has entered our no space stream."
"Some sort of Covenant vessel?"
"We haven't directly identified the vessel, yet. It is Covenant design, but it isn't a Covenant Vessel that we know of, as of yet. It is not a big deal, we have the Master Chief aboard."
Any human vessel in the universe would kill to have the Master Chief aboard their ship. But the Athens had commissioned the Master Chief for a month.
Suddenly, the ship jumped, and everything began to speed up.Existing space loomed back into the eyes of Luitenant Commander Hiid. The smell of molten steel covered his nose.
"Captain, what happened?!"
"Luitenant Hiid, we've taken a hit to the outer haul. Whatever they did, it penetrated our shields. We're going to need you on bridge, right now."
"Yes, sir."
"Oh, and Hiid."
"Yes, sir?"
"Get the Master Chief."
Hiid paused, "Yes, sir."
Hiid ran out of his quarters, still trying to get dressed down the hall. He ran quickly, hardly letting the doors open before he moved through them. He clipped his arms once or twice, but a slight bleeding is nothing compared to what the Covenant would do to them.
Hiid reached lower Platform 77B, grinding to a halt. Two men were operating in a room above another room. The room the two men were in simply held thre computers. The room below held a few men walking back and forth in cryo suits, so as not to freeze. Then, sitting in the center of the lower room, was the Master Chief, completely frozen in the Cryo-ice that was now used in No Space.
"Sergeant...uh," Hiid stared at the tag on the man's suit, "Sergeant Mondel, the Captain has ordered the reanimation of the Master Chief. He is to report to the bridge, and double time."
"Yes, sir, but he's only been suspended for a few hours, it will take at least twenty minutes for reanimation to be complete."
"Twenty minutes, we'll all be gonner by then. Do what you can, have him report directly to the bridge when you're done."
"Yes, sir."
Hiid ran, double time, to the bridge; knocking over female tendants along the way.
"Sir," Hiid said, panting from the run.
"At ease, Luitenant. Our outer haul was breached, port side. It's torn to shreds. Another hit, and we go protocol thirty-75. We make for the lifeboats. We can't afford to have the Covenant get STAG."
"Yes, sir, but the Chief won't be reanimated for another twenty minutes, sir, sixteen hundred hours, to be precise."
"He's got about five until the next impact."
The Covenant vessel loomed overhead. Right above the Athens. They were attempting to board using the lifeboat exits, as they did in the Pillar of Autumn at Halo.
Hiid stood on the bridge, staring at the vessel. Suddenly the ship shook, again.
"That's it, Hiid, we make for the lifeboats."
"Sir, might I advise we wait for the Master Chief."
A pilot sitting at a computer in front of Hiid turned to the Captain, "Sir, Covenant troops boarding. Thirty-seven grunts, and sixteen elites. Possiblity of hunters, but they scrambled signals. It's hard to tell."
"Negative, Hiid, we go now. The Master Chief can handle himself."
Hiid didn't like the idea, but he wasn't apt to disobey orders either. Hiid saluted to the Captain as he snapped to attention then turned and made his way to a lifeboat.
Hiid ran down Platform 12C, and made a quick right, only to encounter two grunts, staring his way. Hiid was in a bit of a shock, then reached for his pistol. He had forgotten it in his quarters. The grunts grabbed their plasma weapons and raised it to his nose. Hiid's eyes grew extremely wide.
The Grunts waited for a moment, then fell to the ground, one after the other, revealing the one responsible.
The Master Chief stood with a pistol held up to where the Grunts had stood.
