Chapter 1: Awakening and Battle

So cold... can't feel...so empty...need to breathe... to move... to combat the Covenant. "Sir! He's coming around!" "What?! Get him out of there!"... Who are they? Get me out! Don't you hear me?!
"Sam, he needs to get out of there!" said Anton "Get him out!" " I'm getting it I'm getting it hold your horses." Sam yelled.
What is this? The door, it's opening! " Hello Master Chief! I'm Anton and that's Pete up there. You better hurry up and get oriented." Master Chief looked around. He only saw a stout man in his late 30's ranked as a sergeant. Up in the control room was a man fairly tall yet lanky. He remembered the tragedy that happened on Reach. He was the only Spartan 2 that made it out of the covenants hands as they attacked Reach. The Spartan I project is close to an end with himself being the only one left. He felt empty inside knowing that all of his friends that he grew up with were dead, all dead. The rest were destroyed when Reach fell to the Covenant.
He was deep in thought when Anton interrupted him. " Sir, Are you there? Sir can you hear me?" " I was going over information on the data chip." " That's strange... I don't recall programming any information except what the latest news on the Covenant" Anton replied. The Master Chief Was confused. " Are you sure you guys are specified for this job?" "Ha ha. Very funny. Let's go. If you'll please follow me to the shield generator, we had to deactivate them when you entered the cryo-tube." The master chief followed the stout man towards the shield generator and was thinking about all he went through with his friends and now they all were dead when Anton interrupted his thoughts. "Sir, if you'll please step onto the red square." The Chief stepped onto the spot, between a pillar bolted to the ground, and the other fixed half a foot above the ground, attached to the first.
The second beam started to spin around him in circles and then faster, and faster, and faster, until it spout a gold like energy that made contact with his armor, and his shield status on his HUD display filled to the max. "Sir, we need to knock out the shields so we can test the automatic refill. The Master Chief felt a wave of static and his shields crackled and blinked off. An audible alarm screamed in his ears alerting him that his shields were down. Then they slowly started to refill. "Ok chief, your shields are up and ready to go!"
Then, Captain Keyes radioed in over the intercom, " Crewman, I want the Master Chief on deck now." "But sir, we'll have to skip the armament and equipments." Anton Objected. " I don't care, I need the Chief up front now!" "All right sir" Anton said with a sigh. "Chief, we'll have to skip preparing you with proper equipment and weapons, if you'll please follow me.

Just then, Covenant started to pound on the control room above them. They burst through and invaded the control room up above them and shot Pete square in the face. "SAM! No... Sam.... Lets get the hell out of here"
As Anton guided the Master Chief along the hallway, he couldn't help thinking that this was no ordinary Spartan. He seemed to radiate leadership qualities yet was still eerie. He looked just as alien as any of the covenant in his armor. "This way sir! We must get to the bridge immedi... AHHH!" Just then at that precise moment, one of the fuelage tanks blew flinging bits of steel and debris.
Fortunately the Master chief wasn't to close to the explosion, but Anton was done, his mission was over. "No! How many men are we going to lose to the covenant?" As the Master Chief looked around, he saw a dark shadowy area. Then he scanned it and noticed wasn't part of the wall. It was a pathway covered in wires. He jumped over the pipes and wires and continued down the hallway. As he thought it as safe then, another tank blew and the master chief was blown back.
Luckily his state-of-the-art MJOLNIR battle suit protected him from the worst. His shields were knocked out. But they would recharge after a while. He decided to go through the door anyways.
As he went through, he saw a battle between the Covenant and humans taking place. As he ducked the fire coming from the Covenant he recalled his previous encounters with the Covenant. They were a merciless band of aliens that took no prisoners and killed like savage beasts. As they searched out every single human force and destroyed them, they glassed the planet and left it a smoldering ball of glass, never to sustain life again. Once Human forces started to fall, the Spartan Project was created. Yet it was still unclear how, the Covenant fought a religious war, where prisoners and hostages meant nothing.
I must help them. In one swift motion, he picked up a plasma rifle and fired rapidly at an oncoming elite. As he fired rapidly the gun started to overheat. Then the whole gun seemed to catch on fire. He discarded the useless weapon, picked up a plasma grenade from a nearby grunt body, and hurled it at the elite. It cursed and yelled as the Master Chief rounded the corner for cover. Then everything went silent.
Was it a dud? He rounded the corner and saw the enraged elite charging at him. He managed to knock the thing unconscious and run to the nearest piece of cover. Then everything was engulfed in what seemed like a bluish white hellfire. He was blown off his feet and into the wall.
Then sirens alerted him of his shields were gone and he had no protection except his armor. He was shocked, but alive; yet he felt his left arm fracture as he hit the wall without his shields to protect from the worst. He saw the blast doors closing and realized what was happening.
He ran and jumped through the doors just before they closed. As he stared through the trans parent blast doors, he saw what living covenant and humans in that area grasp at their necks and suffocate.

Captain Jacob Keyes sat staring out into the vastness of space. " We made a blind jump, how did the covenant....." " Get here first?" Cortana finished for him. Cortana was an A.I., An advanced one for that matter. She took the shape of a middle-aged woman with short hair. She varied between a lavender and blue color and had symbols and numbers running along her body. She was one of the so-called "smart A.I.s" "They always have, but they seem to already have been here" As captain Keyes observed the outlying are and saw the tear shaped covenant frigates cruise around a strange ring-shaped console. Just then, a boom ran throughout the Pillar of Autumn. "Captain! We've taken major damage to the decks B through D. I'm sealing them off now. Luckily there was no one around in those decks" "huuuuu.....," The Captain let off a weak sigh. The Covenant are finishing us off little by little, but why?" "Perhaps they believe that we know or have something that is significant to the ring shaped structure?" "Maybe....." He said as he turned away from the structure, the ships, and his worst fears."

The Master Chief climbed up and went to the nearest crewmember if they needed assistance, but the technician replied, " I'm sure your needed somewhere else Chief, head through that door and follow the passage to the bridge." As the Master Chief headed to the bridge, he saw another battle taking place and he saw a marine guarding the entrance to a room full of wounded marines. As he approached the marine, the marine gave him the same look that he would give to any other covenant elite or hunter, a look of awe mixed somewhere into it but barely noticeable. As the Chief intentionally cleared his throat, the marine snapped to and said, "Sir, the Captain needs you on the bridge, ASAP, better follow me."
As the marine led the Master Chief towards through the room and out, he led him into yet another battle scene. The soldier, however, did not slow his pace yet the master chief had to take a pace between a walk and a jog so he didn't get ahead of the marine. As he surveyed the area though, he saw a slight shimmer in the airspace, like a mirage above hot asphalt. He blinked several times and the image was gone. He pushed the event into the depths of his mind not worrying about any potential threat the "vision" possessed.
As the marine led him to the bridge, he stopped in front of a door way and said, "just go around the corner and you should find Captain Keyes, I have to go help the other crewman fight the covenant bastards." Thank you private," the Master Chief replied. " Any day sir" the man saluted the Chief, and ran to the nearby battle to fight. The Chief went around the corner to find Captain Keyes staring out into space. "Captain Keyes" the Chief asked the man standing alone.
The man turned around and took notice of the Spartan standing there. "Good to see you Master Chief. Things aren't going well. Cortana did her best, but we're fighting a losing battle." "One UNSC ship against 5 or covenant ships, I'll say we have 5, make it 6 minutes left." Cortana added. "Sleep well?" "No thanks to your driving" The master chief replied. "So you did." She said with a mocking smile. Then a blast rang throughout the ship. "Cortana! Report" The Captain yelled. " It must have been one of their boarding parties! I'd guess an Anti-Matter Charge!" "Damn. I have no choice but to put the Cole protocol article 2-7 into action. Chief, get Cortana off this ship. Do not, I repeat do not let her fall into the covenant's hands. If they get a hold of her, they'll learn everything about us. Our strengths, weapons, weaknesses, .... Earth." "But sir, you can't expect to take the ship in manually?" " I have no choice. Master Chief, get Cortana off now. Cortana, are you ready?" Cortana took one last look around the ship, and replied, "Yank me." She let out a weak sigh as The Captain tapped some codes into the database and took the Chip of Cortana out and handed her to the Master Chief. The Chief inserted her into the slot in his helmet and felt a rush of cold, like liquid cold mercury, felt a stab of pain, and then it was gone. " Amazing, your technical structure isn't much different than the ship's." "Don't get any ideas," He said. And proceeded to leave.

***********************

ZuZu was walking down the hallway with his squad of grunts and felt a blast ring through the ship. "May all my leaders burn in the depths of the unholy's land" He though. They would kill all of his kind and not even blink or worry about him and his kind. But he had gotten used to it. They had used his people as a living wall of carcasses to protect the other higher Covenant warriors. He was pondering all this in his mind when a marine rounded the corner and gave the small grunt squad a crazy and confused look, and was fumbling for his pistol when an overcharged bolt of plasma hit him in the face.
ZuZu squealed with delight as his pistol opened up in attempt to cool itself. His other Squad members were still fumbling for their pistols and others were just pulling them out of their holsters. He recalled that human warriors traveled in packs and warned his other squad mates to keep their pistols charged and ready.
Just as he suspected, four more marines rounded the corner, gave the trademark look of confusion, and opened fire. One grunt fell from a skin on his methane tank, which split open as he suffocated. At that moment, four overcharged plasma blast screamed through the air and made contact with 3 of the marines. One in the leg, which got hit in the arm as well, one in the throat, and one square in the chest, burning putting three inches of space into the marine.
Once the short skirmish was over, the grunts were still standing yet they had two casualties, not bad for their kind. As they were just resting, a wounded elite rounded the corner. ZuZu took notice of his limp and saw that his left leg had been riddled with bullet holes. Three more marines followed after the elite shooting and cursing at the same time. ZuZu ordered the three remaining grunts to attack and one yelled "Fire in the hole!" and chucked a plasma grenade into the fray.
It detonated taking two of the marines and the third fell when the elite shot him in the back of his head with his plasma rifle. As the elite limped toward the small squad, he still had enough strength to crush one of the human's skull under his foot and mutter a curse under his breath. "What is your name? You!" The elite demanded. ZuZu noticed that the question was directed at him.
"ZuZu y- your ex-excellency." He stuttered. "Yes..." The elite said in deep thought. "I am Alosa' Lasanee, will you accompany me to a boarding craft. I have important news to deliver to the High Prophet." " Of course your Excellency." The grunt shook slightly when he noticed the elites Cyan armor, Armor of the Messengers of Truth. They were one of the most important elites in the entire armada. As ZuZu led the elite to a nearby boarding craft, a grunt muttered something under his breath about elites being demanding and 'Lasanee nearly shot him in the face. As they got into the boarding craft, ZuZu tended to the elite's needs as the others piloted and monitored the small craft.
As they guided the craft to the covenant cruiser Cleansing Liberty, the elite told the grunt of help he might need and asked him of a mission quest. Reluctantly, the grunt accepted seeing that if he didn't, the elite would probably have his head. As they entered the tear shaped ship, they noticed an awkward silence. When they hopped out of the craft, there was no one around save a grunt technician and two black clad elites.
As he approached them, one asked "Identification please." " Alosa 'Lasanee. Messenger of Truth number 4-1-6-5. Operation: Halo." As he said this, he handed the second elite a small data chip. The elite inserted it into a handheld display screen and watched as information scrolled across the pad. "Please insert your hand into the receptacle," The second elite asked. 'Lasanee inserted his hand into the rectangular slot, felt a prick of pain as they took a skin and blood sample, and his finger went numb with warmth as a laser bathed the finger in Ultra-Violet Rays, resealing it.
As they ran it through the device, ' Lasanee took notice of the uncomfortable ZuZu standing at his side. He told him it was probably best to stay at in the docking bay. A series of beeps came from the handheld device and the Elite said, "Very well, you may proceed." As the 'Lasanee entered the dark chamber, he put all his fears into the depths of his mind, and prepared to tell the Prophet, of the most serious threat, the covenant have ever known.
