Enzan: Introduction
Date: 3 December 2005, 5:13 am

Just so we get things straight and get no complaints about why there is no story or action in this particular chapter, THIS IS AN INTRODUCTION!! It tells about each and every character you are going to read about. We have Daniel Burton, team leader, Ittimai AKA Recoil, Automatic Rifle Man, Tony, Sniper, and last but not least, Thomas (real name is Silp…hardy har), our engineer and technology expert. Now time for me to bow out and let you read. ( Message written by Ittimai, Recoil)

The camera opens up to reveal Earth with battles raging on it's very surface. A voice comes up "no we are not screwed, and yes we are being invaded by aliens…this is my story". The camera zooms in on Italy, Rome, past a few layers of clouds to reveal a single Pelican flying through the sky. Inside the Pelican there were four men in it, clad in an unknown type of amour. They wore no helmets but goggles and headsets in it's place and they wore what looked like a SWAT uniform except that there were no insigna on it and its all in black. These men wore shoulder pads and amour plates that cover the biceps and forearms but it looked smaller than the marine's but oddly tougher. The gloves seemed to be made out of substance that was used for Kevlar but upon closer inspection it has small piece of metal plating on it, small enough to allow full movement. The amour at the torso looked like an ODST's but less bulkier with an exposed side but it was cover by another layer which looked like a flatter version of a Kevlar that covers at the side and provides more cover rage. There is no protection at the groin but there are small metal plates at the thigh, knee and greaves that cover from knee to toe.

The camera turns towards a man with brown fuzzy hair. He wore a serious look. "That is me, my is name Daniel Burton, I am 34 years old well, every one in this team is 34 years old. For a certain reason I am the leader of this team you may have never heard of us because we are the first of our kind. We were trained and funded by ONI section 3, and we volunteered for this project unlike the SPARTANS who were forced to join since childhood. We called ourselves the "Enzans" that is what one of my teammates suggested, that was what his brother name for anything that was elite. Before I became an Enzan, I came from a family that lives in New York, now a giant Metropolis. My father (who was a Captain that retired and now taught students at a naval academy on earth a few years after I was born) sent me to military school to become a navy officer. I took an interest of Special Forces instead and joined an elite airborne unit and soon became team leader and lieutenant. I was later invited by ONI to participate in their project at Reach 4 years ago. Little did I know that because when I was still six ONI wanted to kidnap me to be trained as a Spartan but they dare not because my father was a former captain and my father knew all about the plan, he was also involved with the kidnapping. The ONI booked me instead for being accepted to all the military branch and that is how I got here with the potential to be a Spartan".

Daniel turns towards a man who looks like he had been working out 4 times a week, the man is cleaning a prototype automatic rifle called an MB9B it looked like an M249 SAW but longer and looks portable and more reliable and weights only 2.3kg with an easy to load rectangle shaped magazine that sticks out to the left side a bit rather than what looked like a box with exposed ammo like the M249. The MB9B can hold up to 90 rounds per clip has very good accuracy for a light machine gun and gone through plenty of field tests but the UNSC is not convinced yet that it should be a standard squad automatic weapon. "That guy over there is called Ittimai (It-tea-maai) he's from a country at Southeast Asia called "Thailand", he is our best anti infantry-infantry unit in the squad and the always the man when it comes to suppressing fire and covering fire. He was a Sergeant in Thailand's special force and later invited by ONI section 3 for the training on planet Reach. He was invited because he almost became a Spartan, if ONI could have had enough funding Ittimai would have been a Spartan by now or he could die during an augmentation process. Ittimai was gifted with the ability to handle large amounts of recoils while firing at full automatic and still hit his target by a factor of 76.5%! The marines were really impressed they gave him the nickname Recoil, and we happen to like calling him that too during missions as a code name.

Daniel turns to look at Tony fiddling with his prototype and customized sniper rifle "That man over there is Tony, he is our rifle man, his Old Russian name is Yuslav. Tony lived with his father a Russian politician, Tony moved to America when he was 9 and became an American citizen; he changed his name to Tony and became an elite marine sniper at 22. Tony received medal of honors and purple hearts for providing cover for many fire teams and even saved a few lives too. Tony, like Ittimai was a Spartan candidate and was in the tenth place of almost joining the 75 kidnapped kids. Tony's Sniper rifle is a prototype it's called a MAR (magnetic accelerator rifle), it holds 20 rounds per clip it's a semi automatic weapon made for both assault and sniping (Tony founded it to be very reliable). If you compared it to a MAC gun on the ships, it has the same amount of power if it weren't for the size. The MAR gun had field tests and was too powerful for the holder to fire, it was powered down to a fraction just enough to be devastating enough to hit a pilot inside the cockpit of a banshee and the recoil easy enough to handle. Instead of a scope mounted on top, the MAR gun has a small four by four inch monitor mounted on top; it has infrared, movement sensors, and night vision. Tony even though he had been transferred to many places because of the demand for his sniping skill had a hyper mood and got along with most of the marines. Tony even earned the respect from the ODSTs once and had been called "Miles" because of his ability to hit a target that is a mile away, that is by the way half true. Tony can at his best hit a target that is approximately .82 miles away depending on the terrain and the speed of the target.

Daniel turned to look another man sitting crossed arm, the man look back at Daniel "…. why are you staring at me?"
Daniel answered calmly "oh nothing just daydreaming."
"His name is Thomas Gunnar, our grenadier and most resourceful teammate, he came from a long line of ancestors who are Irish, American, and Chinese. Thomas had an odd skin feature like no one else; his skin is white as in vampire white and pale every time he fought the covenant, not because he is scare, because we can sense his calmness every time we fought. We insisted him to see a doctor 6 months ago we breathe sighs of relieve when we found out that Tom was one in a million type of human that got this skin disorder. 'It's all in the genetic make up like a white elephant' that's what the doc told us. Tom's skin problem might also be the reason why he wasn't picked as a Spartan. After I had gone through the files of the Spartan project at the ONI section three dossier I think that ONI was too scared to select him when they found that something is wrong with Tom's genetic make up and wonder if it would affect Tom when he grows up. Tom had a very bad background his mom died when he was 3 (from a motor accident) and his dad died when Tom was still 8 (also from a motor accident). Tom's uncle took him and looked after him like Tom was his very own child (even though Tom's uncle was never married). Tom grew up as a very smart person he joined Harvard and learned about electronics then he joined Special Forces working as a Hacker and demolitions expert. Tom too became a sergeant and team leader, ONI soon invited him for the Enzan training too. His former squad mates called him Trapper for his amazing record to had a few times, ambushed and wipe out a squad of elites plus two hunters with only trip mines and remote controlled mines. Tom and I use an assault rifle similar to the MA5B but it's a cut down, smaller version and it holds 50 rounds per clip of ammunition and it's in my opinion, light weight and deadly accurate. If the UNSC finds it to be really good, they will take it as standard issue, replacing the battle rifle, but currently it's a prototype and uses the same ammo for the standard assault rifle."

Daniel looked around the room inside the Pelican and glance out the window just to see only clouds passing by "We trained on reach for 5 years when we were 25 years old. We learned a lot more than what we could ever imagine. We learned how to lay advance traps, pilot aircrafts and vehicles, hack into computers and how to tune our own guns according on the way we hold it and aim it. The trainings were tough and felt like training for super force more than special forces. When we reached the age of 30 we spent a year of campaign, being sent to fight off rebels that terrorized remote planets, but soon all the planets were glassed by the Covenant and we spent three years fighting them off. We just got this new equipment on Reach 3 months before it was Glassed. In the past we operated just like the NavWarSpec team, so nobody knows about our existence yet. The invasion started 10 hours ago, we were caught off guard and spent the first 2 hours battling the Covenants at Washington. My team suddenly got an order from our commander to get on the Pelican nearby and wait for further instructions, until now."

Daniel got tired of backtracking on his past, he decide to go to sleep when…
"Lt. Burton do you copy? Hello?" The comlink in Daniel's head set burst to life as Daniel's commander voice spoke.

Enzan part 1: Beginnings
Date: 29 December 2005, 6:09 am

If you want more details about this story, read the Introduction. It might not be good, but it will cover some background information, but if you DON'T want boring facts then please don't read it.

Lt. Daniel Burton's headset burst to life as static cracked through the signal "Lt.Burton of the Enzan squad do you copy? This is commander Perron, do you copy?" a weak as if far away voice spoke into Daniel's headset.
Daniel keyed his headset "I copy sir." Daniel hand signaled to his three teammates: Thomas, Tony and Ittimai to receive the transmission.
"Good, ok just to brief you on the current situation. The Covenant fleet just arrived 10 hours ago; 8 hours ago we evacuated you on this Pelican. I was hoping to get you to command center, but there had been a…slight change of plans-" Daniel sat up in his seat anticipating on what the commander might say next "-9 hours after the covenant appeared they sent a task force, consisting of a few ships headed for Italy. The orbital guns managed to destroy the entire force at a cost of two frigates-" two frigates? how will we win if soldiers died at this rate? Daniel wondered out loud in his mind "-how ever, hundreds of drop ships, carrying thousands of covenants penetrated the defense perimeter and landed in Rome. The UNSC forces stationed there managed to corner the covenant into the National Museum of Europe."
"And you want the Enzans, to infiltrate the museum and find out what's going on, right sir?" Daniel blurted out.
"Yes, and you are approaching Rome as we speak, this is a perfect opportunity we could uncover their technology and finally find out what the hell is going on and how did the bastards found out about earth." Commander Wolf answered with such enthusiasm; Daniel could have sworn he heard the way the commander talked exactly identical to a boy talking about his new game system.
"Any intels?" Daniel said, in an attempt to break the commander's trance. "And when do my team and I land?"
"Right about… now, your team will be using parasail, which obviously the Covenant will not detect you on their scanners. I can't risk having your team landing with the pelican; the damn aliens will suspect what is up with a single pelican floating near their hideout, and they might wonder if we are preparing to send in spies, they will purge their Data before you can say "Italy". The Intel is covered; you will meet with your contact. He will fill you in on the current situation, his name is Commander Lokesh, he's in charge of guarding the east entrance of the Museum."
"Roger that sir" Daniel quickly spoke into the microphone while checking Thomas' parasail. "Oh Lieutenant one more thing, reinforcements be arriving in 3 hours sharp, good luck, over and out."

Daniel turned around to look upon his team, "Ok Enzans, power up your tactical goggles!" as Daniel spoke, his goggle also flashed, revealing numbers and symbols. HUDs appeared, transparent displays danced across the screen from compasses to shield meter, although this amour's shield system is weaker and less complex than the MOJOLNIR's and covers only the torso and head, it can make a difference between life and death.
"I am very proud to have everyone in my team and I wish you all good luck. Buckle up and remember: everyone must come home" Daniel spoke as he scanned the interior of the pelican while looking into Ittimai's, Thomas' and Tony's eyes. The back door of the pelican opened. The cool air from the darkness of dawn rushed into the pelican, familiar sounds of the thruster engines flooded the passenger room. "I never imagined that one day I will be in Italy by leaping off aircrafts!" Tony yelled over the roaring of the pelican's engine. Everyone smiled at Tony's half joke, half sarcasm and one by one The Enzan team leaped off the pelican, diving through the clouds of Italy. The Enzans quickly regrouped midair, while falling through the sky at killing speed, forming a circle formation, hanging on to each other for a while until they finally broke formation and made sure each of them are at least 20 meters away from each other so they could pull their parasail.

Private first class Jeff was taking a break and cleaning his battle rifle when he saw four figures slowly gliding down to earth with parasail. Jeff was staring at the floating figures when his friend, Nick, finally shouted, "Who the hell are they?" Jeff rushed towards his Warthog with Nick following suit "I don't know maybe they are Spartans!" Jeff yelled over his shoulders, recalling the countless moments when the Spartans saved his life a few years ago, during a covenant ground invasion. Jeff hopped on the driver seat while Nick settles on the passenger seat. The young marines sped off on their Warthog just when the figures started to land on the hard concrete road of Rome.

Daniel was done packing away his parasail when he heard the sound of a warthog coming to a halt. Daniel turned around to see two young marines, jumping from their warthog. The one with a scar across his face walked closer to get a better look but when he finally got a full view of the Enzans he became disappointed "I never saw these uniforms before, are you some sort of Spartan?" Daniel was about to answer when Ittimai cut in " well enough to kick three ODST's a-" then Tom cut in "Well lets just say we are better than the one O fives."
Daniel just ignored the chatter and continued, "Where is your CO?", asked Daniel "Hm…get on the Warthog, we'll take you to where the troops are stationed, but we've really got the situation under control" answered Jeff. The Enzans hopped into the Warthog, and they were off speeding towards the museum.

The Coliseum, an ancient historical site, was on the verge of crumbling to nothing but rubble during the early 2300's, until a group of historians decided to put a large glass dome around it that protects it from any damage and erosion. Now, one of the largest museums on earth had been built over and around the Coliseum and what's left of it is the national museum of Europe.

The Warthog pulled up in a camp, next to one of the biggest tents around the area. The tent had a dull brown color, with two guards standing at the doorway. Daniel got off with the others, and walked towards the tent. "Halt, show identification" said one of the guards. Daniel quickly took a quick look at the marine, and showed his identification. "You may go in," said the guard. The Enzans walked in, surprised by the sudden brightness of the light. "Welcome, men. I am Commander Lokesh, from India, if you don't know" said Commander Lokesh cheerfully. The Enzans saluted stiffly and then listened to what the commander had to say. "Well, as you see, we are currently next to the museum, where one of our vital objects are located. Now, I cannot tell you what that is, for it is classified information, but I will load up the information that I have on your current mission" briefed Lokesh. "Ok prepare to receive data, I will transfer it to you in no time" Lokesh walked over to his laptop and start tapping a few buttons. A message on Daniel's goggle flashed up saying: message from Commander Lokesh eyes only. "There you go, that should tell you all you need to know about the mission," said Lokesh. Daniel opened the message on his Tactical Goggles, and said "Whoa!" when the sudden information flew right passed him, as he forgot to stop it and organize it. After arranging everything correctly, Daniel looked at his teammates. Tony still going "whoa whoa", Ittimai was standing and observing the information, smiling and frowning, while Thomas was sitting and observing the info too. After checking everything, the Enzans saluted commander Lokesh, and walked out of the tent. "Alright Enzans, listen up. I don't want any mess ups and misunderstandings, so lets get clear on the mission. We are to infiltrate the museum, grab some data, observe Covenant activity, and high tail it out of there. Any questions?" said Daniel. No hands were up. "Well then, shall we go?" said Daniel with a smile.

Many thanks to Ittimai, for editing the grammar mistakes and giving good feedbacks.
