Amnesia

Darkness. Not in the room, it was illuminated every other second by a blinking '12:00', but in his mind. The fact remained that he still didn't know who he was, or where he was. As he leaned up in the bed, he noticed an object he knew on some instinctual level, knew it was a MA7B Battle Rifle. "How do I know zis?"

A doorway opened, flooding the room with light. What opened the door scared him to hell. Seven feet of blue armor with a Plasma Rifle leveled at his head. The next few seconds were a blur, plasma scorched the bed's pillow where there was still an imprint of a head, and five rounds exited the barrel of a MA7B, proceeding to break the shields of the Elite and crush his skull. Deciding he would call himself Brian for the time being, he placed his back to the wall next to the door and noticed a clipboard at the end of his bed. Brian picked up the clipboard and read.

Subject's Name: N/A Height: 5'9
Company: N/A Weight: 180lbs.
Rank: N/A
Comments
Subject has a large bruise on the back of his head, unclear at this time whether or not he will have brain damage and/or amnesia.

He could be sure he had partial amnesia, but of nothing else. A piercing scream from the next room over interrupted his thoughts. Brian entered the hallway, and was immediately confronted by two Jackals. Quicker than they could react, there was a bullet in each of their gun hands, then a second later one in each head. Brian thought he was in the clear until he felt a blast of heat scorched the hairs next to his left ear. He whirled around, and faced another Elite and two Grunts. Brian took out the Grunts with one shot each, and dodged a plasma bolt by dropping to the floor. He put the Elite's head in his scope's crosshairs and fired at him until it's head snapped back and the body fell to the floor. Brian got up and jumped as someone behind him spoke, "Your a natural, how are you that good?"

Brian looked the man up and down, he was African American, probably the same height as he was, spoke with an American accent, and was wearing a white robe with a nametag that said Frank. "Your name iz Frank, yes?"

"Yes, I'm Frank, what's your name son?"

"I don't remember." He looked skeptical. "But I have dezided to call myself Brian."

"Ah, well Brian, you are a bit of a mystery here, but the Covenant seem to think you're a good enough reason to board our ship."

"Ship! I'm on a ship? But ze last thing I remem...." His voice trailed off and didnt finish his sentence.

"Yes, this ship is mostly used for medical uses, but it has other uses. Don't ask me to elaborate, I won't"

"Vhy?"

"It's classified. Press the issue no more Brian."

"Who are you?"

"I am a doctor or medic, whichever is needed at the time. Follow me Brian, we are evacuating the ship and setting the self-destruct sequence. We may have to do it manually because the Covenant are all over this ship. Were just thankful that they don't attack with their ships."

"Zat still doezn't tell me who you are."

"I will remain no longer, if you are coming with me, do it now Brian." Brian looked over his shoulder, then back at Frank and started to follow him cautiously. Thoughts like, 'Can I trust zis man?' raced through Brian's head as they entered an elevator suspiciously unchallenged by Covenant forces. The large steel doors closed, Frank was humming a song, but what it was Brian could not tell. The elevator creaked as it slowed to a halt, then opened and let its passengers out. No sooner than the doors opened, did a small group of Grunts fire blindly with their plasma pistols and needlers. The plasma pistols were easy to avoid, but the large purple crystals twisted through the air to their targets. Brian dropped to the deck for the second time in a half-hour and shot down two grunts, before noticing Frank had killed the rest with two MD6 Pistols. 'Where did he get zose?'

Frank helped Brian up and they continued to the bridge where the body of a dead gold elite lie. Just past the corpse were barricades and marines with weapons trained on Brian and Frank. Frank spoke first. "Were friendly so there is nothing to worry about."

A marine lowered his rifle, soon followed by the others, then one spoke. "Glad you could make it back, but is this all you could save?"

"Actually Brian saved himself, he must be one of them." Brian didn't like the emphasis on the last word Frank spoke.

"I see. Well did you ask him?"

"He's the one with amnesia that we picked up from the planet"

Brian's thoughts drifted at the mention of a planet. He could vividly remember lush green trees surrounding the environment, men standing around talking; a large wall that encapsulated what looked like an encampment. If Brian had amnesia, maybe he thought, this was a memory of what he lost, or just a fragment of the bigger picture.

"Brian!" It was Frank

"Vat?"

"I said come on, it's safer on the bridge."

"Oh, right I am sorry, just had a picture of a planet for a moment there."

"Well keep it together." He motioned for Brian to follow. Brian entered the bridge and saw technician's running back and forth while others were on headsets, probably aiding marines by giving locations of Covenant boarding parties. Brian glanced at a nearby computer terminal and there were yellow dots, indicating marines and red dots indicating Covenant. The yellow was in a cafeteria, surrounded by Covenants. Oddly only the red dots seemed to be disappearing. 'Must be in a survival formation, like Sarge taught us.' Brian's thoughts confused him and he wondered what survival formation was. Brian tore his eyes off the screen and looked up, and saw Frank. "Welcome to the Bridge Brian."

Amnesia Chapter Two
Date: 24 September 2004, 8:43 PM

AN: I'd like to thank MCC for showing me how to do italics and bold letters and things of the such.

Ten minutes after stepping onto the bridge, Brian had learned just about all he needed to know, according to Frank. What amazed him the most was the amount of firepower poised to cut down anyone who was stupid enough to walk onto the bridge. Why iz that man staring at me, and why does the AI Construct continually disappear, only to reappear moments later?

Frank interrupted Brian's thoughts. "We got a large group headed our way, this is probably gonna hurt."

"How large iz ze force?"

"Large." The way Frank put it, the way his voice sounded, none of it added up in Brian's head. He looked calm and sounded scared. Thought was pushed from Brian's head and replaced with a calm reserved mind that checked his rifle and sidearm that had been given to him. Both had full magazines but they were checked regardless. No sooner than defensive positions had been taken did the Covenant's attack begin.

"FIRE!" A unanimous decision by all present, expressed in words by few. Lead tore into skulls, arms, torsos, and legs. Plasma scarred the walls, limbs, chestplates and even the ceiling from petrified Grunts, squealing about dead leaders and running from the battle, only to turn around at the sight of their backup. A row of five hunters advanced in unison, and released five bolts from their arm-mounted weapon in unison. The effect was devastating. Marine's fell to the deck but died before that. Finally someone used a stationary 50mm chaingun to shoot the line of advancing Hunters. One Hunter went down, the two next to it chanced a look, exposing their back. Brian took the opportunity and killed one with a single bullet. Seeing the Hunters falling scared the Grunts again, and this time they ran for good.

Once again how did I know to do zat? The Marine at the chaingun managed to take out another Hunter, only this time the remaining two kept their backs safe from fire. Just as they were about to fire their weapons, the sound of a rocket could be faintly heard. Then a stream of white connected with blue armor, and created an explosion, killing the last of the Covenant attack.

A group of four marines jogged down the hall, one holding a smoking rocket launcher; the rest battle rifles and from the looks of it Grunt blood. Frank greeted them like old friends, and it seemed they were. "Glad you boys could make it, we've been having this horrible infestation problem, no matter how many we kill they keep coming back for more. I think we need a stronger prescription of lead."

"Haha. And an extra ha, because I'm feeling generous."

Frank opened his mouth to respond, but instead yelled out at them. "DUCK!" A blue sword had materialized, protruding from the stomach of one of the Marines. The others fired at the area behind him but the sword had already disappeared and moved. The Elite killed another Marine, disappeared, and killed another, until one was left alive. Brian moved into the hallway from behind the barricades. He put up his rifle just to the left of the remaining Marines head, and fired a three round burst. The Elite took two of them to his head and dropped to the ground, upon which the plasma sword auto shut off. The Marine looked at Brian, then at the dead Elite behind him.

"Wow, I owe you my life man, thank you so god damned much."

"You owe me nothing, for you would have done ze same for me." The Marine nodded then walked to the bridge, followed in by Brian. "I'm Tom by the way, what's your name?"

"To be honest, I can't remember, but call me Brian."

"That sucks man, that sucks bad." He took a pack of cigarettes from his pocket and lit one, taking a long slow puff. "Can't seem to quit." Brian chuckled then suddenly remembered that Sarge had also smoked contraband cigarettes.

"Maybe it's coming back." He mumbled

"What?"

"Nothing, nothing."

"Ok well, I'm going to go stock up and take some time to remember those guys I met in the hallways. Damn Covenant Elite's wish I could be invisible." Tom walked off leaving Brian to his thoughts, which didn't last long. Frank came running up to Brian.

"Brian, we have a problem."

"What iz it?"

"The Covenant are trying to get to the main power core for the ship, if they get there and disable main power, it could knock out life support."

"That would be most unfortunate."

"Yes, it would. So will you help me get down there to prevent it from happening?"

"Of course I will." Without another word Frank and Brian left the bridge, Frank holding two MD6 pistols and Brian with his battle rifle. The sound of plasma and battle rifles could be heard in the distance. The two men looked at each other and ran to the direction.

Sure enough makeshift barricades had been set up. A duo of marines was fighting with their backs to the biggest metaphorical wall ever. Five Elite's and about a dozen grunts were advancing on them. Brian primed a grenade and rolled it amidst the most dense pack of Grunts, who squealed, ran two feet and then were thrown ten.

The two marines, noticing they had backup fought with a renewed zeal, taking down two Elites and the rest of the Grunts. The remaining three Elite's realizing the odds were now against them tossed plasma grenades at both groups of two men. The one thrown at Brian landed behind him, so He and Frank dived forward and covered their heads. However the Marines weren't as lucky. A plasma explosion killed them both. The Elites dropped to the floor after taking heavy fire from the lucky survivors of the incident.

Brian stood up, waited for Frank, and then they continued to the nearest maintenance elevator. The good news was it was there. The bad new was it was full of Covenant.
