The Tru7h about Lone Mythic
Wow. A mission after the credits? I'll be the first to admit that I didn't see that coming. A pleasant surprise indeed!
So this is it. We've reached the end of our extended Mythic journey. Not just for Halo: Reach, but also for the entire Bungie-based Halo franchise. Personally, I couldn't think of a more satisfying way to bring the series to a close than bringing it full circle with the Pillar of Autumn's grand introduction to the gargantuan galactic cleansing machine, but there is still one last chapter of the story to tell... the fate of Noble Six.
There'll Be Another Time...
For who?! That scorched helmet painted on the screen at the beginning of the game certainly didn't look too promising.
As the last Spartan on Reach, you've been left for dead. Your one object is to "survive", a feat that will prove to be impossible as you battle endless waves of Grunts and Elites. Yes, the waves are indeed endless, and no, you cannot "beat" Lone Wolf in any other fashion aside from going down in a blaze of glory, as suggested by the several other dead Spartans you'll find lying all over the ground.
The Covenant troops will start out somewhat small, only throwing a few Grunts and a couple of Elites your way, but soon their ranks will grow to staggering numbers that even the most seasoned players won't be able to handle. If you're playing on Mythic, you'll be forced to deal with Ultras right off the bat, and even if you do somehow manage to take out a few while avoiding hellfire being rained down upon you from distant Wraiths and Spirits, eventually the Generals will start closing in along with our ol' pal, Uncle BOB—the only one in the game who takes an aggressive approach to your presence.
The bottom line is you will die regardless. How long it takes is up to you. Sure, in theory you could find a nice, comfy hiding spot and perhaps be lucky enough to avoid enemy fire for hours upon hours on end (so I've been told), but when the mission has no real end to it, and you aren't going to kill anything, then why even bother?
If you are interested in taking a slightly more aggressive approach to this bonus mission, there are a few things you should know. First off, the map itself is laid out with the ruins of a few abandoned buildings housing various weapons and armor abilities. Among the highlights are the Drop Shield on the south center of the map, the Armor Lock and Spartan Laser in the central structure, the DMR just to the west of that complex, and the two sniper rifles hovering around the south side.
Keeping all that in mind, here's the best advice I can give you for getting through this mission on Mythic difficulty... throw a bloody grenade at your feet two seconds into the mission and be done with it. Yes, I know that isn't the most insightful thing I could say, and I hope you didn't come here in hopes of finding some secret method of actually surviving this mission, but in truth, what you see on the surface is exactly what this mission delivers, a chance to fight endless waves of brutal Covenant warriors all the way until the end.
However, that wouldn't make a very exciting video, now would it? Consider the video below to be my send off for an epic journey three years in the making. Thank you, Halo Community, for all of your continued support over the last three Halo games. It has been quite a ride, and I couldn't imagine a better community to share the experience with. Thank you all.
