Comments for 'ES01 - Eternal Sunder (part 01): Prologue' |

While I've always enjoyed your writing, Wado, I've decided not to try and take this one on. I love complication, but this one's jumped right into it, and since I haven't read the rest of the Archon-related series (I don't have much time on my hands with school and all) I don't understand a lot of what's going on. The allusions to LOTR (Eldar, and the Archons being elf-like, along with the whole Medusa thing from ROTA being like Beleriand and its wars) were interesting though, and I like the Croaker-John-Max trio. For now I'll keep reading your Carnage series. Hope Part 2 comes out soon.

In response to Wado's answers to questions:
Well, Wado, it seems you have the mind of Stephen King. Most people think I do, but please. My stories are either corresponding to or so far from the Halo baseline that some may want to leave the country in fear of change. Someone like me, a person who favors video games such as both Final Fantasy, Halo, and of course, Red Faction 1 and 2, may be in danger of changing the balance in fan fiction. ES02, by the way, sounds extremely interesting. Submit it soon or...or....uh, or...you might make me cry!!
Ugh, anyway, back to when I turned into a temporary idiot...

Wow, thanks for the long comments.
Let's see if I can answer some questions.
How can John be so old?
Well in ROTA (Return of the Archons) John was revealed to not just be a Spartan but an Archonian Sleeper (a guardian of Earth or a decendent of the original protectors that the Archons placed on Earth). Anyway with that plus Archonian technology, John could live upwards of 500 years.
What does the title Reclaimer mean?
Heck if I know but in SOA2 (Shadows of Archon II), the title Reclaimer was shown to predate even the Forerunners when John used it to get by a guardian left by the Old Ones. Like the Arthurian legends of the sword in the stone, the Reclaimer is someone with special qualities (the ability to retrieve the Index from Halo, etc.). The Forerunners in SOA2 had been split between many factions. The Forerunners did not want "Halo" to fall into the wrong hands so they put in certain security protocols that only allowed a Reclaimer to retrieve the Index. This was to ensure that the Insane Ones (Insane Forerunners) would not be able to activate the Halos, of course this is one reason that Margoth (an Insane Forunner) wanted John's body for his own use.
What was the war with Covenant, was it really a war?
In SOA2, the Covenant and humans and many other new races were just pawns in the struggle between the Insane Forerunners (who had massively been altered by the Flood) and the other elder races (mainly the Archons, Praetorians, and Nomdians) to rule this galaxy. In ES (Eternal Sunder), that last struggle was called the last Great Holy War.

The Legendary story line returns!
Nice to see these ccharacters again... makes me all gooey inside. O.o;
Quick question first. Are you going to deal with the Chief's title as Reclaimer or will you wait for Halo 2? Either way, I support your decision.
Also, This story IS a tiny BIT fast paced but there's nothing wrong with it. It will be interesting to see how you react with the other characters like Catsulvalahundra (did I even spell the right??) and the lone fighter... something ... arg! What ever you used as your cliff hanger ending in part33 of SOA2. That is if you will bother to tie up that ending...?
Whatever. Your stories will undoubtably be cast down, fact wise, in Blasphemous shame when Halo 2 and maybe Halo 3 come out but that's okay, your fanbase, me included, will always read your stories and provide support in the form of comments and a general Euphoria when basking in your stories' glow.
on a side note... 1969!?! Dude, you're a grown man! I had thought that you were in high school or something like that... no wonder you're good. Definitely not bad though, just a revelation to my young clueless mind.

The Legendary story line has returned!!!!
It is very good to know that you are going to continue this story, I would like to see how you are going to deal with the other characters from the last series. It will also be fun to see if you make up your own explanation for the title Reclamier or if you will leave it to Halo 2 to explain.
Even though Halo 2 and , if it will come, Halo 3 will undoubtably cast your stories down in blasphemous shame, parts of your fan base (like me) will always be there to read your stories when they are posted and offer unceasing support in the form of comments and a general euphoria.
On a side note... 1969!?! Dude, you're a grown man! I thought you'd be in high school or something... no wonder you're good, you've had time to perfect you're writing as a person might age wine. Definitely not a bad thing, just a revelation to my young, clueless mind.

Well, it's good that you are intending to make more sequels, chapters, parts, whatever you want to call them. It would kill the purpose to just stop now.
I think, (completely off-subject) that they should combine Halo with...well, .hack. Yeah. Take .hack and Halo and make it one story. Hey, that's what I'll do! My third story idea is born! Must...get...to patent...office...

John, the eldest human alive... I wonder. Would he live very long at all? Human life, at its longest, reaches only few years over a century, in rare cases. The majority of men die younger, dozens of decades younger. And if John is whom I consider him to be, his mind would be warped beyond belief, and....
Ok, nevermind. I'm just rambaling now.

So the Human-Covenant war was nothing mroe then a breif battle in a far greater war? Odd. I viewed the war as simply a force of destruction. Consider: aliens such as the Covenant are so contrary to human thought- they aren't fighting for power, or for politics. They are simply removing the race of men from the galaxy, a function of little concern requiring little effort. For what matter would politics fall into an alien race, so unlike humanity as to be beyond belief. What could man possibly think when he encounters an alien race? His mind couldn't possibly comprehend what he is seeing. To quote Crichton, they would experince nothing but extreme terror. Fear that clouds the mind.
How could aliens view humanity? With anger? No. Hatered? No. With extreme terror. Fear that clouds the mind.
So the Human-Covenant war is not a function that could be described as 'a war' but is instead a complex mixing of fears. Both races horrified beyond the pale.

Ah, yes. Why do all alliens have such odd names for thier worlds? After all, this world is Earth, named after soil. Why would any alien world be named differently? Unless the refernce to the Archon is more of a comment about 'a nation' rather then a planet....
A planet sharing a nation perhaps?

When ever I write about Halo, I play music. What I'm listening too determines how I write. How long you think before the next line. How long you spend reading what's written.
What enthralls me about Halo has nothing to do with aliens or humanity, but the thought that fate is more powerful then any human state of mind- be it anger, pacifisim, or love. The possibilty that no matter how many lives one has, be they A life, or many lives of differnet beings, they are all united be one common fate: they live and they die.
At any rate, I'll go read the story now.

LOL...
I thought I was being clever starting the title with ES01 and the next would start ES02, because that way the filename for the story would be automatically unique and I wouldn't have to mess with it. I didn't realize that Louis automatically adds an incrementing number to the end of filename based on the series name. So anyway, I didn't really have to be as unique as I thought.
As usual Louis is one step ahead of me... ;)

Of course Wado should write more...besides, it is ES01: Eternal Sunder (I don't, honestly, know what sunder is yet...I'll go look it up...) Part 01. PART ONE!!! Yes! I will live a better life now that there will be an ES02 and maybe an ES03! (Maybe even an ES04!) Hurrah! Joy in the streets! I won't have to cry myself to sleep tonight.
Anyway...
Halo meets Final Fantasy...excellent combination...

I take my hat off to you sir, your responses are as well-worded as your stories.
I think the factors of the Halo story that I love so much is that it is plunging you into a time when humanity knows it is leading towards extinction, yet it is not so weak as to be able to try to change it's future.
My theory on the Halo universe however would make it seem that all the races of the covenant and humans are more equal than first thought. After all, it's too big a universe for all those species to have just happened to evolve to become humanoid...

Man, this sucks!
I'm j/king, I love it. The govermnemt underline, the number of races involved, the uneasyness between them, like true government; excuisit(not spelled right, forgive me), any ways, I have stopped writing but hope to join again, and try to match your quality of writing, but I can ony try. Congrats Wado on another excellent story.

Halo meets Final Fantasy?
Other than the surprisingly brilliant combination of future and fantasy, that story was...different. Of course, it's just the beginning, but...
ES01: Eternal Sunder (Part 01) Prologue has received a 9.5 out of a possible 10 (For making me confused!)

Thanks for the honesty Traumatised Marine.
I learned long ago that I can't please everyone, it's better to find those that you can and simply delight them.
I try to keep the stories Halo like, but frankly I'm not going to write about marines that run around on alien worlds without environmental suits on or at least a rebreather. Halo is a game and to me the Halo story is much more. It's hard science mixed with alien technologies not fully understood.
Writers need to pick their constants, for me it is that the Forerunners and other alien races have existed from before humanity and as humanity grows and reaches for the stars, we have entered into their house. We the humans are the new guys, we don't tell the aliens how to live, we must live in their "house" or perish.
In the Halo Story, would someone go so far as to say the book "Starhammer" is un-Halo-like? If you can say Starhammer is not Halo Story than you might not like the liberties I take in my stories to try to take a game and make it a story that makes sense and is enjoyable. However, those that think books like Starhammer are Halo Story, then my stories are targeted for your enjoyment.
My stories are intended to be about humanity in the face of much bigger things -- A Space Opera in the Halo universe.
Anyway, any other comments?

As good as your writing is, Wado, I find all that 'Achrons...Biomechs...Praetorians...Old Ones' stuff really rather inpenetrable. The way you've written it makes it rather 'un-halo-like' for people like me who don't really read into much deep Sci Fi and have just been sparked by the Halo story and the Halo story only.

Thanks for comments. Much appreciated.
saturn, does sc mean Starcraft? If yes, I can't do much about that, I've been writing about Archons from way before Starcraft was a glimer in a DEV's mind. Maybe somewhere around 1969 or so I started using the term. I thought the name appropriate for Halo because of Spartans and all the other references to the Greeks. Many people do not know that the Archons were the rulers of Athens. There is a Halo tie in there, Spartans (Sparta) and Archons (Athens).
