f*** that, the Covenant would just glass the colony planet, if they have no need for it.
ODST
fire teams are 3-6, more than that and its a squad

My dad was in Vietnam and he said that a fireteam consists of 3-6 guys. Even though in Halo, you could have like twenty guys and they would still call it a fireteam.
The story was kinda wierd, and it did make the Covenant seem dumb. But don't get discouraged, just try harder next time.

Ya A fire team is 8-12 depending on circumstances.
Not a bad story but very jumpy like it got a severe hiccup. Tighten up a lil and make the next one better :P

The Covenant aren't dumb. If I had a big cruiser against a colony-planet, and the colony didn't have any naval defenses (for space), then the strategy is simple.
The rest of the marines landed on the planet. The cruiser wouldn't go after them. It would stay there, calling in reinforcements, so they could wipe them all out. While waiting, it would patrol the planet side, shooting down any reinforcements that might try to come it. Sure, the cruiser might not be able to go within the atmosphere, but its not going to go out of its way to get rid of a few land-bound marines.
By the way, I believe that a fire-team consists of only 8 - 12 marines. I may be wrong though. Anyone care to correct me?

now, the ending was cheap "That shouldv'e been the entire strike force." "Oh wait, theres more"
that isn't really a suprise, becuase 1. no real crusier would only have 1 strike force. 2. literary people don't make a suprise ending so predictable
or maybe you wanted it that way...
