Note: About the sidearms thing, I can understand if he took it off a dead guy, but that was something you should have explained. Your story wasc a 9.2/10.

Ten years without a promotion, especially in wartime, in the enlisted ranks, means you are poor quality fighting material. You could at least have made Johnson a Corporal. Sergeant would be preferable. An officer would be understandable. You see where I'm going? I think so. Also, unless they are special assignment soldiers, such a snipers, drivers, or heavy weapons operators, enlisted soldiers do not carry sidearms. Other than that, it was very good. You should keep writing; we need more quality here.
