Okay guys, I took your advice on a few things so hopefully this one will be better than the first, and once again: any comments would be appreciated.
Grid: K223, en route to UNSC military base/Planet: Encipher/1000 hours/
The next six days were a living hell. We walked our asses off all fucking day long, every day. While fighting off hordes of Covies a zillion times a day.
I had several plasma burns in various locations across my body. Kelly had a broken arm, so she could only use a Pistol. In fact, Captain Barnun was the only one who was uninjured, probably because he kicked major ass every time we got in a fight.
It was now the seventh day. Morale was a bit higher today, then it had been because we knew we were close to the base. The trees were getting just a bit thinner now.
"Hey! There's somethin' up here!" the scout said as he waved for us to come to where he was. We got to him and a few people cursed loudly. We had reached the edge of the forest and had come to a huge, grassy, plain. Then we saw the Tank.
I didn't know what exactly it was called, but it was purple, and we all knew what that meant. It was sitting in the middle of a small squad of 4 Elites, and a group of 10 Grunts. "Shit," the Captain said, "Okay, Tallent! You go around back of it and hit the Elites with everything you've got. I'll take the rest on a frontal assault to try and take the Wraith out." "Yes sir!" I said, and did as he ordered.
I stayed on the edge of the forest until I got to the far left of the group. Then I hauled ass behind them, to the top of a hill. And before they knew what was happening I blew the heads off of two Elites with one shot from my BR. The other Elites roared, and then spotted me, and pointed me out to the Wraith.
It fired a huge ball of plasma in an arch at me. I yelled, "FUCK!" and hit the dirt in front of me. The mortar had missed me by a matter of feet. I expected it to fire another at me, but all of the sudden a barrage of fire from the Captain and the others blew it up. I stood, wiped the sweat from my brow, and took aim at the remaining two Elites. It was pretty damn hard to kill them because the other Marines were in very close, killing mainly Grunts. I cursed under my breath, reloaded, and took aim once more.
"Hehe, I've got you by yourselves now you big blue bastards." BLAM! I blew one Elites' head off with a shot to the throught. BLAM! BLAM! I blew the last Elites guts out of his back and blew his brains out. The Captain gave me the thumbs-up, and I returned the gesture.
The others finished the Grunts off with ease, and then I jogged over to them. "God-damn it Tallent, you never cease to amaze me!" the Captain said, smiling, "No training yet either..." He walked off across the plain, and we all followed.
We walked for a few more hours undisturbed. We were tired, injured, and really filthy. But we were pretty damn happy. We could now see the base a few miles away. It was pretty much just a big metal square...with gun turrets...and electric fences...and concrete walls...and airstips, and a bunch of other military stuff. We all broke into a run, with luck we wouldn't be attacked on the way. We didn't have much luck left though.
We all heard the humming of enemy dropships, we all saw them land a few kilos ahead, but we didn't stop. We were gonna' blow the hell out of those bastards and keep on running, those DAMN Covies weren't gonna' stop us when we were this close. That's what we thought until we saw what kind of Covenant the dropships were carrying: 50 Brutes, and 2 Hunters. "Oh shit." Captain Barnun said. "You took the words right out of my mouth sir." I replied.
We had only faced a few Brutes and Hunters in the forest, and even then they were pretty damn hard to kill. In fact, it was a Brute that had broken Kelly's arm.
I brought my BR to bear, as did everyone else, and let 'er rip. To my surprise, we felled about half of the Brutes, but that was before we got in close, and both of the Hunters were still alive. When we got in close I drew my Combat Knife, put away my BR, and took out my Sidearm.
I managed to kill a few of the Brutes with shots to the face, but took a few cuts from their gun's blades. I saw one of the bastards coming for me, and just as he raised his axe-like gun, I cut his arm off, kicked him in the chest, and shot him in the face.
The Captain, as always, was the one kicking the most ass. He had stolen two of the Brutes' guns, and was blowing up, or cutting up, anything that dared challenge him.
Kelly was doing better than what I expected, what with her arm broken. And the rest of the recruits were doing okay. But would okay be good enough?
The battle seemed to last forever, we were all getting tired. Even Captain Barnun, [although he was still uninjured.] A few of the recruits were dead, and several were severely wounded. Kelly and I had both sustained a good bit of damage, nothing too serious though. But we were slowly getting worn down. And those DAMN Hunters were still alive.
"Okay people, we can't keep this up for much longer. Let's make a break for the bases' main gates. Their chain guns should be a big help!" The Captain said. Then we all ran like our asses were on fire, toward the base. The Brutes and Hunters were close behind and firing.
A few more recruits went down. But we were getting so close. I could see the Marines getting the MG's ready on the walls. Then, as we got in range they opened fire. BRRRRRRAPPP!!! They blew all of the Brutes to hell. But couldn't take the Hunters out before they sent two globules of green plasma hurtling at the gunners. BLAMM! BLAMM! The gunners were thrown from the MG's. Then I, the Captain, Kelly, and all of the other recruits, turned around and threw a Grenade each. BLAM! The Hunters blew up.
At last! We had made it! I threw up from exhaustion. Then put my arm around Kelly's shoulders, and said: "We fucking made it!"
To be continued...
Okay, I know it was kinda' short, but I wanted to see if you guys thought I'd improved. If I have then I'll make the next one a whopper!
