Okay, this isn't my first fan-fic but it's the first I've submitted to HBO. Any comments would help me make the series better, thank you.
/Atlanta/Georgia/North America/Earth/0900 hours/
Me and my girlfreind Kelly, had always wanted to join the UNSC Marine Corps, and aid in the fight for humanity. And when we turned 18, we did. We didn't bother to tell anyone where we were going either, we just packed a few essential things, and left. It was a friggin' hot summer day on Earth, [yeah, the homeland,] and we were relieved to enter the air-conditioned recruiter's office. The guy at the front desk handed us each a slip of paper with a list of specialties that we could choose from. We both chose Sniping as soon as we saw it on the list and we waited for the next transport to arrive. "Hey Kelly." I said, "Yeah?" "I can't wait to get my hands on one of those S2 AM Sniper Rifles." I replied, "Heh, me niether." We waited for about an hour, and the transport arrived. We got on and took two seats in the back. We were flying in that thing for at least four hours, and we were getting tired. I looked out the finger-print and snot stained window, out into the blackness of space. Then there was a flash of green, and then everything went white, we had entered slipspace. "Damn this is gonna' be a long flight, we've entered slipspace so we must be going to another system." Kelly said yawning. She then leaned on my shoulder and fell asleep. I closed my eyes, and just as I was about to fall asleep, [which usually takes me a few hours to do,] the transport exited slipspace in a flash of green.
We were just outside the atmosphere of a huge planet. It was almost entirely green except for the blue rivers that ran through the green-ness. Kelly sat up as the transport lurched, we were beginning our descent into the planet's atmosphere. We sat through several more lurches, but then the transports alarm went off as it began to rock violently. "Oh shit!" I heard the pilot yell from the cockpit, then I heard his voice over the intercom: "Okay recruits, hold on to your asses cuz' we've been hit by enemy torpedoes, we're goin down fast an' hard... FUCK!!!" The transport had hit ground on a huge grassy plateu, and was tearing apart as it slid. We were heading straight for a clump of trees, I looked at Kelly who had her eyes shut and was muttering something that sounded like a mix of curses and prayers. I clasped her hand in mine, and with a CRASH!, we hit the trees and I knew no more...
When I awoke, I was lying with my back on the grass, looking up at the night sky. I stood up, and surveyed the area: The transport was is several pieces, and was on fire in some places. I walked over to the piece that had the cockpit in it, and saw a rack of weapons, I looked for a Sniper Rifle but couldn't find one so I settled for a Battle Rifle, a Pistol, a Combat Knife, and some Frag Grenades. I also found a Marine Corps uniform and put it on. When I put the helmet on I saw the words: 'Initializing Neural Implants...Done' scroll across my vision, and my head tingled for a second. Somehow, the helmet had just made some Neural Implants materialize in my brain. I raised my Battle Rifle and saw an aiming reticle appear. Then health status bars and ammo count numbers, and a motion tracker appeared on my mental HUD that the Implants created. "This is so cool." I thought.
I walked around the crash site for a while, looking for any sign of the others. But they were nowhere to be found. There was just a little blood here and there. I decided to make a break for some woods that I'd spotted with my BR's scope. As I got closer I saw the light of a fire on the edge of the woods. YES! I had found the others. I walked into the camp and sat down around the fire. No-one seemed to notice me walk up. They were too busy laughing at a story that the Co-Pilot of the transport was telling. I listened for a while, until I felt a tap on my shoulder. It was Kelly, "I thought you were done for Jake." She said, "Naw, I'm invincible." I said, grinning. She grinned back. "Well well, I thought you were dead son, I'm Captain Barnun." the Pilot of the transport had just walked up. I snapped a sharp salute and said: "Sir, Private Jake Tallent reporting for duty sir!" "Jesus son, you haven't even reached your base yet and you already act like a soldier. You're even in uniform. You'll make a damn good Marine kid." the Captain said. "Sir, thank you sir!" I replied. The Captain grinned at me and then turned to the others around the campfire. "Alright dumplings! Now that we're all here we can discuss the plan!" he said, "The only thing in between us and the base is this god-damned forest. It'll take us seven days to get through under normal conditions. But if there are Covies in there-" he was cut off by a blast of blue plasma crackling past his face, followed by fire from all directions. "Okay people, give 'em hell! You may not have been trained yet but I trust you all know how to pull a trigger!" the Captain said, drawing his BR. Everyone else did the same.
Kelly and I immediatley ran to the top of a hill to snipe out any of the bastards we could. We were both pretty damn good at it, because Kelly's father had always let us practice with the hunting weapons he owned. We took down several Grunts with head-shots, and a few Jackals with Grenades. But a Gold-armored Elite saw us and leaped over the battlefield and landed in front of me. The big dumbass made the mistake of stopping to roar at me, and I put my Combat Knife through his intestines. Then I grabbed him by the throught and shot him in the head with my M6D Pistol. After his bloody carcass fell to the ground I pulled out my BR and put the last Elite's head in my sights, and pulled the trigger. BLAM! His brains blasted out of the back of his head, and painted the trees behind him blue.
WHAM! The Captain killed the last enemy, a Grunt, with a kick to the head which made it cave in. "Okay boys and girls!" the Captain shouted, "Let's haul ass to the base!"
To be continued...
