Halo2: The Covenant Wars [part 2]

[PART 1 REVIEW] The Master Chief glanced down and saw nothing but blackness. He took one hand off to unsheathe his SMG's, so that he would be ready when he came face to face with the Covenant. BOOM!! An explosion ripped through the building and dust swirled down on him. "Shit...." Was all the Master Chief could say before his grip on the cable gave away and he begun to fall into the darkness, then The Master Chief vanished, swallowed by the darkness below..............
In mid fall, the Master Chief sheathed his SMG and grabbed the cable. Sparks flew into the air, as his armor dug into the cables in his attempt to slow down, illuminating the darkness around him. "Master Chief what's your status?" Barked Sergeant Luskey as the Master Chief finally jerked to a stop and slammed into the wall. "Um.... just hanging around." Replied the Master Chief jokingly. "Ok....well sir you might want to see this. We are at the rendezvous location and awaiting orders." Informed Sergeant Luskey. "Ok we'll be there as soon as possible. For now just patrol the rendezvous' perimeter until we get there." Ordered The Master Chief. "Yes, sir." Replied Sergeant Luskey as he signed off. The Master Chief continued up the cable. Stopping once to check his gear to see if there was anything damaged from the fall. Nothing was. Five minutes later he had reached the top, and paused briefly to check his motion sensors....clear....and then his weapons....fine. "Alpha team what's your status?" Asked the Master Chief. There was no response. "Alpha team do you read?" The Master Chief tried again. Still no response. "Damnit Alpha." He grunted as he took out the last one of his glow sticks, broke it, and then watched as the green illumination from it disappeared into the darkness. A rewarding thunk filled the small chamber as it hit the ground 100 feet below. Sergeant Iverson's voice broke the eerie silence surrounding him. "Chief, acknowledged. We'll be there as soon as possible." The Master Chief shut off his comm. channel for now since he didn't know if he was being monitor or not by the Covenant. He then pried open the elevator doors that separated him from the rendezvous location with Alpha team, and climbed up and over the edge. Taking out his MA7B assault rifle, he looked around the small room that he was now standing and observed it. It looked to be a small access chamber that lead into a bigger one through a well secured oak door. On his right there was a computer sitting on a well polished glass table, casting a ghostly green light over the dark room. Off to his left were.... Damnit thought the Master Chief as he noticed two dead Elites, and a couple of dead Jackals laying on the well kept burgundy carpet. Blue and purplish blood flowed out of the wounds, giving the carpet a new color. Well, besides that, there were two chairs facing diagonally towards each other, plus a couch leaning against the far wall. Even though it was small, it looked well stocked. The Master Chief tried again to reach Alpha team but without prevail. He then walked over to the oak door and noticed that to access it you needed hand print and eye identification. Wow, what's ever behind this door I guess someone doesn't want us to find it. Pondered the Master Chief. Seconds' later Bravo team arrived and informed that their escape route was clear for now. "What the hell happened here?" Asked Pvt. Rodriguez as he glanced at the decaying Covenant. "I don't know. Although I have a theory...." "What's your theory?" asked Cortana. "Well see here," the Master Chief said as he pointed towards one of the wounds, "It seems as though the Elite was killed by a puncture wound. Like the ones the Flood cause." "So you're saying that the flood are here. Right now, somewhere in this building." Pvt. Rodriguez asked. "Yes, and I think I have an idea where." Said the Master Chief as he glanced nervously at the secured oak door. "There." He pointed to where he was looking and everyone shifted there gaze to the door.

"Alpha team do you read?" A hazy voice asked over the comm. channel. "Chief is that you?" Sergeant Luskey asked. No response came. "Chief I read you loud and clear." He informed. The comm. channel clicked off and static was the only response that he got. A burst of gun fire erupted from Pvt. Harrison next to him and a grunt dropped dead in its tracks. "Damnit Ensign! Fire your weapon!" Shouted Sergeant Luskey as he eliminated another Jackal. Dozens upon dozens of Covenant swarmed into the large storage bay area that they had wondered upon while securing the rendezvous perimeter. Finally Pvt. Ensign came to his senses and started to fire his weapon. He soon eliminated two grunts and one Jackal. He then rolled from his position and pumped two rounds squarely into a Grunt's head, sending it flipping backwards and spraying blood along his face. While wiping the oozing blue blood off of his face he blindly fired a shot into another Grunts face; killing it. "Fall back!!" Hollered Sergeant Luskey as he stopped firing long enough to get up and run like hell. Soon all the other marines caught on and followed the Sergeant who was now sprinting towards the back wall. "Shit, it's a dead end!" Nervously shouted Pvt. O'Connor who was chewing at his fingernails like mad. "Stop complaining marine. Toughen up and pull yourself together." Ordered The Sergeant angrily. The nervous marine just looked at his feet embarrassed, but continued to chew at his fingernails. "Duck!" Shouted Pvt. Harrison as he fired two rounds next to Pvt. Ensign's head. An oncoming group of Covenant blew backwards as the bullets ignited a near by hydrogen pipe. "Nice shot. Thanks for the warning." Mumbled a shock Pvt. Ensign. "Ok marines listen up. We don't have much choice, so spread out, take cover, and fire like you have a purpose!" Ordered Sergeant Luskey. No one objected, so they started to spread out and take cover. Pvt. Harrison and Pvt. Ensign headed left behind a stack of metal crates, while Sergeant Luskey and Pvt. O'Connor headed to the right and took cover behind some over turned tables. The rest moved forward and hid behind smashed concrete walls, or metal crates. "In coming Covenant dead ahead." Announced Sergeant Luskey through the comm. channel. The only responses were some nods and loading of the guns. Soon the Covenant were within firing range and that's when all hell broke loose. They all started firing systematically starting from the marines closes to the Covenant and then finally with the marines in back. The first line of aliens crumpled while the others tripped over the dead or slipped on the blood that was spilling over the ground. An explosion from a marines frag grenade eliminated half a dozen Covenant, while another rocket detonated in the middle of the frantic crowd, depositing another dozen or so Covenant. But the Covenant weren't going down without a fight. Elites fired their plasma rifles like crazy, while Grunts fired needlers at the group of marines. One marine was hit in the hand while holding it over a metal crate; firing blindly. He held up the smoldering remains of his shorten arm and Pvt. O'Connor turned pale then puked. While most of the fire from the marines died down so that they could reload, even more Covenant started to fall. "What the hell....!" Shouted Pvt. Harrison as he stopped what he was doing and looked at the scene in front of him. Elites stopped suddenly and fell where they were, while Jackals just fell forward; dead. But that's when they all saw it; small balloon like creatures emerged from cracks in the walls and mutated marines fell from the ceiling and landed with a thud. Grunts and growls filled the room as the flood slowly advance on the marines with guns raised.

"Almost done, sir." Informed Pvt. Rodriguez, the demolition specialist, as he finished the final touches to the small device set next to the door. [a.k.a "Door Buster"]. When detonate it sends thousands of high electricity bolts through out the whole door, disabling the security devices, and creating a way in for the Master Chief and his team. 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1....there was a crackling sound and the smell of burnt rubber while the door pooped and creak as the small device did its job. There was a finally confirming pop, and everything fell silent. The Master Chief stepped forward and cautiously laid a hand on the door knob, twisted it, and then shoved it open. What he saw, was....well very disturbing. Covenant laid twisted and dead, and small shards of popped infection forms littered the floor. Beyond that were dead members of the flood, burnt with horrifying expressions on their decaying faces. The marines slowly followed the Master Chief with hands covering their noses and guns at the ready. A burst of gun fire came from somewhere next to the Master Chief followed by two popping infection forms. All the marines tensed and waited for orders. The Master Chief turned around and spoke softly to the group of marines, "The Flood are here, as you can probley see, and there's going to more. So stay alert and fire at will. If necessary you may speak but only to warn the others of enemy movement, but otherwise, use hand signals only. This may get messy very quickly." With those words of advice, everyone moved out with guns at the ready. They soon came to a stairway and gently pushed open the door. It swung open and everyone continued down. When they reached the bottom, the Master Chief, who was point guard, motioned for everyone to get down. When they did he slowly stood up and peeked through the small rectangular window at the top of the door. When he confirmed to himself that he was really seeing what was happening, he knelt back down and eyed the marines. "Alright marines listen up. Through this door, there are 20 flood at large, considering the odd its not that bad." The Master Chief said with a smile which soon faded when he came to the bad news. "Sadly, the flood are trying to corner Alpha team who has taken cover by the back wall. Here's the plan. About 10 meters to the right of the Covenant, there is a large generator which provides this section of the building with electricity. If we can take that out, it could reduce the Floods numbers by half. Pvt. Harrison that's your assignment. With a sniper, it is hittable from here." With that the Master Chief handed him a sniper that another marine gave to him. Without a word, Pvt. Harrison accepted the sniper and set it up. He took careful aim and fired. The sniper kicked and the bullet soared through the air towards its destination. It slammed into the generator, traveled all the way through, and the generator was soon ignited. The explosion blew the Flood and molten metal pieces 20 meters into the air. In the confusion Alpha team and Bravo team opened fire on the flood. In less than 10 minutes only 5 more Covenant were left. The Master Chief dove forward and rolled behind a metal crate and opened fire on a helpless decaying flood member. Its right arm fell of and then the Master Chief pumped another 2 rounds into the head with his MA7B assault rifle. The mutated marine staggered back and finally fell over. With a couple of well placed grenades and shots, the rest of the flood was taken care of and Bravo team united with their missing link....Alpha team. "Thanks," Said Sergeant Luskey, "just in time." "No problem Sergeant. Just doing my job. Cortana are there anymore Covenant or Flood left?" Asked the Master Chief. "No Chief, buildings clear. Time to move out and return to base." Answered Cortana with a hint of glee in her voice. "Alright marines you heard her! Move out! Lets return home!" Shouted the Master Chief. "Yes, sir!" Bellowed all the marines in unison. With that they all moved out and returned to the elevator shaft. From there they traveled down the shaft and outside to the awaiting Pelican. With a warm welcome from the pilot, they started their long journey home. The tension from all the marines soon wore of when they entered Delta base air space. "Welcome home marines, and Master Chief. You did one hellava good job. See you on the ground." Crackled Delta base air control over the speakers in the Pelican. With that the comm. channel clicked off and they sat back and enjoyed the flight in.
Author's Note: I hope I didn't rush the ending to much, and I hope you enjoyed it.
