Halo: First Strike
Two Elites walked out of the small hill top building as two banshees soared overhead. The first of the two-radioed in. "Beginning patrol." "Good hunting." Replied the first Elite. "They will surely find them." "You speak truly." Said the other walking back towards the building. The Elite heard a tap-bang. He turned around and saw that his comrade had been shot, and had fallen to the ground and than there was another tap and he fell dead. And then the bang echoed throughout the canyon.
~
The Master Chief stood holding his sniper rifle, he killed the Elites clean, and silently. He was proud of it. The next thing on mind was to radio in to bravo-233, the Pelican dropship carrying in a squad of troops to the canyon. The troops were going to sneak up on Covenant base that UNSC was curious about. It appeared that the covenant were looking for something. The humans were curious about what they could be looking for. This outpost was taken out so that the Pelican could sneak by, along the canyon trail in nap of the earth style flight. "Hostiles have been eliminated." He radioed in. "Repeat?" asked Sergeant Walker. "The drop zone is clear. Repeat the drop zone is clear," his cold metallic voice echoing off the canyon walls. "Good." Master chief stood and watched Pelican Bravo-233 fly by holding low to the ground.
~
The pelican moved swiftly down the canyon, passing the Spartan on the hill, then moving to set down below the Covenant outpost, one km down range from Master Chief's position. As they moved that way, Sergeant Walker said to his five Marines, "I want a clean, tight dispersal as soon touch down. Goth, I want you to get that 'hog rolling as soon as we get down. Is that clear?" "I'm all over it." Replied Corporal Goth "If you aren't in position in time, this operation is as good as over. Am I clear?" bellowed the Sergeant. "Sir, yes sir!" they all replied The pelican hovered over a small clearing, did a three-sixty degree spin, and settled down to a heighth of five feet. The Warthog dropped, with its fixed and stabilized M-19 SSM Launcher, was the team's heavy firepower. After the Warthog dropped, the Marines jumped out one by one. Corporal Goth climbed into the driver's seat of the Warthog, with Private Siger riding shotgun, and Lance Corporal McLees manning the missile launcher. "We'll meet you at the rendezvous point. Now get moving." Ordered the sergeant. Walker turned to the dropship and said, "Get the hell out of here Lieutenant." Goth turned the hog around and took up the trail that leads the long way around to the base. The trail led up a steep hill, and back down through the canyon trail. The trail was an old dirt one that wound around through the canyon and led out into a grassy plain. He hit the brake hard as a pack of dragon-like animals with no arms and two huge incisors that came up out of their mouth from their bottom jaw. One stopped to examine the warthog jeep. And with a great roar he took off after his heard. Goth started moving again, the trail had disappeared now. There was a hill about thirty feet away. He drove up and over into a little space between two hills. Goth turned off the jeep and hopped out. He radioed over to the Sergeant, "In position, beginning inspection." "Affirmative. On our way." Goth grabbed his MA5B assault rifle and snuck up the hill. He knelt at the top he looked around there were six Elites wandering around, there was also a Wraith tank on patrol, and a Covenant shadow parked next to the base. The hill in front of the base had four ghosts on it. He got a good look at the base and radioed back to the Sarge. "Base in sight, six hostiles, six vehicles." "We're on sight begin attack." "Yes sir." Goth ran back down the hill where Siger and McLees were waiting. He addressed them, "Siger, target infantry, and McLees target armor." "You set 'em op I'll knock 'em down." Goth and Siger ran up the hill. Goth said, "Initiating contact" and opened fire on the Wraith, which turned up the hill. Goth and Siger continued to fire for a second as the Elites opened fire on them. Goth said, "That did it, pull back," and ran back down the hill. Siger did the same he started running but six sharp little needles caught him in the back and neck then each exploded, killing him. Goth ran down the hill, firing at the Wraith as it emerged over the hill, everything was running in slow motion it seemed. He was out of ammo and began reloading while thinking he was going to die for sure. A rocket from McLees's rocket launcher struck the Wraith in its glacis plate, turning its attention towards the parked Warthog. It fired, its plasma shot over shooting the Warthog, which returned fire with fatal results. The hollow charge warhead sent a stream of armor fragments and explosive pressure into the fighting compartment of the Wraith, killing everyone inside. As the Wraith slumped towards the ground, Sergeant Walker and his men ran up from a forest that was on the right side of the base. Wayne and Layne ran towards the large structure and opened fire on the Elites. The sergeant did a side roll up the hill and took cover behind a ghost. He opened fire he soon had dropped an Elite than started working on the others. Wayne dropped two of them with his M90 shotgun and the hillside fell silent. Goth and McLees ran down the hill to the Sergeant's position . The Sergeant turned around and said, "Status?" "We lost Siger." Replied Goth. the Sergeant looked down at his feet for a moment than looked up and said "Goth, McLees you stay topside and watch our flanks. Wayne, Layne you're with me." The three disappeared inside the structure. After a couple minutes passed McLees asked Goth, "You see anything.' "Nothing."
~
Sergeant Walker, Private Wayne and Private Layne began running down the structure "OK, let's see what those blue bastards were after." He said. The three ran for five minutes down the structure, there was a large pillar that a ramp way ran around. "Where the hell's the bottom of this thing?" asked Wayne. "Doan know man," Layne's Mexican accent reverberated off the walls. "It's spooky down here, it's to quite man." "Layne, shut the hell up." Commanded the sergeant. "I'm just sayin' it's way to quite man." The three of them ran down the structure for another couple of minutes and reached the bottom. "It's kinda creepy down here." Said Layne. A plasma sword was ignited behind him, the Elite was dressed in red aromor, he seized his moment of opportunity and stabbed Layne right through the back, he lifted the puny human up as it started to scream, and tossed the corpse aside. Walker and Wayne opened fire on the Elites, the swordsman now had a shield up and bullets were bouncing back towards them. The Elite move forward with eight more coming out from behind him. "It's getting noisy down there we're coming in." said Goth over the radio. "Negative, there's hostiles all over down here." Said the sergeant as Wayne dropped dead beside him. "Negative, fifty meters and closing." The Elites were getting closer, Walker stood and backed up and dropped two of them. "Sarge!" yelled Goth as he and McLees ran through the doorway. Walker turned around getting shot and yelled, "Get the hell outa here! That's an ord-" He fell dead, the elites turned their wrath on the two marines standing in the doorway. They both turned and ran, stopping every few meters to turn and shoot. Goth dropped one and ran for the door that led out of the base, they emerged at the same time and crouched down ready to ambush the Elites as they came out the door. "You go, I'll cover you." Said McLees turning to Goth. Goth crawled up the hill and hopped onto a ghost and took off. McLees started firing at the elites that came out the doorway, he killed two, but the red one slipped by, hopped on a ghost and started racing after Goth. McLees stood to get a better shot at it and was taken down by a huge volley of enemy fire. He laid on the ground a second as Elites surrounded him, He pulled a pin on a grenade and said, "Hey, stooges." Holding up the grenade. An Elite roared, than BOOM! McLees, three elites, two ghosts and a shadow blew up with the grenade.
~
Goth zoomed over the hillside, the explosion had rattled his ears, and all he could hear was this constant ring. The Elite behind him was firing, a couple of hits he stepped on the gas harder, he was pushing the ghost to its limits. A banshee roared overhead, fired its fuel rod gun and took off. The shot hit Goth's ghost and took it to an immediate stop, Goth flew over the burning wreck and came to a stop twenty feet away. The Elite got off his ghost, plasma rifle in hand, and started walking towards Goth. He tried to fire his MA5B but it was empty. The Elite stopped over him and said in English, "Your destruction is the will of the gods, and we are their instrument." "Go to hell." Goth stammered. The elite raised his plasma rifle, ready to fire, then they both heard bullets flying over the next hill than crash a banshee just crashed into the ground. and the Master Chief walked over the hill holding a plasma sword. The Elite turned, fired a couple of shots into the Master Chief, which melted on contact with his shield. The Master chief broke into a run, ran down the hill and stabbed the sword right through the Elite. The Master Chief lifted Goth up as Pelican Bravo-233 dropped down to the ground. "Cortana told us there was one of you on board. But I didn't believe her." Goth said "Enemy airborne battalion on their way, let's get you out of here." You're staying." "Yes, my battle here has just begun."
