Before going much father, John checks his weapons. A pistol, and two extra clips; an AR and ten extra clips; a Spartan Plasma sword; and enough grenades to take out anything. John is ready for anything, and he knows that this is going to take every last bit of training, and experience he has had. Taking out two thousand plus Covenant, while saving whatever human forces he can isn't what he would hope for. But nonetheless these war games are what he lives for. John remembers what Reach was like; he lost all of his Spartans that day. He also lost his home, and that is what the Covenant would pay for. Every life lost at Reach, and every Spartan lost would be what drove him. He then made a promise to himself; Earth was what he had to save. And with all of his power would not let the anyone die as long as he could help.
Cortona: John, tell those Arc's to back away. They are going to give away our position.
MC: Arc-One, and Two come-in
Arc-One: Loud and clear Master Chief.
MC: You see any Banshee's?
Arc-Two: Negative.
MC: Land your birds and join us. On the double soldier!
Arc-One and Two: Sir! Yes Sir!
The two flyers land on the ground, but not before being seen by two Scouts (Scouts are little creatures, not standing any taller than one foot five. They weigh just a little more than 25 pounds, but are quick as lightning. They can climb us a redwood tree in less that ten seconds, and have eyes that rival a hawk, but their sight does not limit to day, their sight at night is that like a bat, they send out a signal and see in almost thermal vision. The look like a little a cross between a triceratops and a cheetah. They walk upright and have an almost snake like skin. They climb almost a swim, and they can run at max speed of almost sixty miles a hour.). The Scouts instantly send a message back to the closest Covenant base called Ahd'u-din run. There was the outer perimeter of the Covenant force on Earth. The Covenant had been watching Earth for a long time. They knew that the Spartans were there, and they were ready.
MC: Blue team head southwest, circle left. Red team we are going southeast and circling right. We are going to take out and flank whatever enemies you see.
Enco: And keep on those stealth packs as much as you can. But remember they drain shields. Pay attention out there!
MC: All right, troops move out!
The Master Chief took his Red team into the thick brush, slowly creeping their way through it. He knew that there was Covenant activity in the area, and didn't know where they went. He had to keep his eyes open and his thermal vision on.
MC: Cortona, watch the radar, I don't want anything sneaking up on us.
Cortona: You got it John.
As they slowly walk in the woods John hears a sound, he signals for the Red team to stop, and with a few flicks tell them to pull up in a row a get low. John opens the COM channel and tells his troops to stay quite.
Enco: John we got some trouble, their attacking us.
MC: So? Fire back.
Enco: I would if I could se...
MC: Enco! Enco come in! Red team, stay alert, and stay down. Cortona, give me a map and all the action around Enco.
Cortona: You got it Chief.
John begins to run where Enco's signal was. He soon comes up and sees a battle raging. In the far left he sees the Spartans take care of the Covenant, but when he sees Enco he sees he is in trouble. Enco is in a hand-to-hand combat with an Elite. The Elite has Enco pinned down and is coming close to killing him. There is something new to this Elite; he is in all black; just like the grunts. John know that there is another thing different. The Elite is bigger, stronger; this is not a normal Elite. John know does not have much time.
MC: Cortona, when I tell you too crank up my shield on my boots.
Cortona: You got is John.
John puts down his AR and sprints towards Enco, and the Elite.
MC: NOW!
Cortona puts his boots on full and John goes siding down the forest, picking speed. John pulls out his sword, and readies it. As he gets close enough he fires the sword and hits the Elite in the head. It is instantly drops to the ground, John grabs the sword and snaps it back in. the blood from the Elite still dripping on the sword. As the sword re-charges the blood disintegrates. John turns off power to the boots and stops, he turns and sees a Hunter about to charge one of the other Spartans.
MC: Cortona, give me a boost and I'll tell you when to re-power up my boots.
John again sprints this time towards the Hunter.
MC: Now.
John goes sliding along the forest floor. As he gets closer to the Hunter, he raises his sword, and strikes. The sword burns through the Hunters orange flesh. Vessels and organs singe as the sword passes through them. A short burst of pain comes from the Hunter as it is cut in two. The large body hits the ground and its orange blood pours from the body. The rest of the Spartans take out the left over Grunts and Jackals.
MC: Enco, I told you to stay alert! Now they know where we are!
There is a short pause as John stares at Enco.
MC: Red Team, get over here. We aren't splitting up.
Red Team: Yes Sir!
John turns towards Enco, walks over to him and throws him onto the ground.
MC: If you ever in-danger this team again I will kill you.
Enco stares back at John and shakes his head in acknowledgment. John picks him up, and tell him to get ready, they are gonna have to do survey to see where the Covenant were. John sends two Spartans ahead to view the area, and tells them to step lightly. The two Spartans take off making their way to the unknown. John over the COM link tells them to report in every five minutes. John turns his attention towards Enco.
Enco: Look, they just dropped in on us. I had no idea they were there.
MC: Dropped in? What do you think your radar is for?
Enco: I know, I'm sorry.
MC: Don't be, you screwed up and you have yourself to blame.
Voice over COM: Sir! Covenant base located, sending you the coordinates.
On Johns HUD pops up a little mad and a green dot where the Covenant base is.
Cortona: I don't know why, but that base didn't show up on my map.
MC: It's the trees, they are blocking some of the bases. All right, you two return. We are going to make an attack plan.
Enco: Before you go how many soldiers do you see?
Voice: About fifty, no make that sixty. Were coming back before we are spotted.
Enco: All right.
MC: You know, there is something I can't quite figure out. How the hell did the Covenant find Earth?
Enco: Later Master Chief. We have got to come up with a plan.
John knows Enco is covering something up. But he cant tell what. Something must have happened while John was gone. Something bad, someone must have messed up. But who? And more importantly how? There was no time to sit there and think. The Covenant needed to be taken care of. He would have to figure this out later.
MC: New plan. Once they get back we are heading to UNSC HQ.
Enco: Why?
MC: We have a better chance there.
Cortona: John, I have some bad news.
MC: What now Cortona?
Cortona: The Covenant are about to takeover HQ.
MC: DAMN IT! Ok, give me a vid feed around and inside the HQ. We are taking it back.
As the two troops make their way back to the group John informs all of them on his plan. All the troops are unsure of his orders but follow him towards the HQ. John is on extra alert, he knows that the Covenant can be anywhere and he wants to ready for them. The base can be seen in the distant but so can Hunters and strange brick red creature. He doesn't have time to study the creature, they could be found at any moment. But he also knew that fighting something unknown was very dangerous. So, he decided to watch the creature for a moment. The creature walked on all fours, was about six foot in length and three feet high. It had the face of a Jackal, but the body of a horse. The creatures skin looked rough, and hard. It seemed to have a mane around its neck of feathers. Each feather overlaps and smoothly lay. The claws on the creature looked dangerous and powerful. John had no idea what it was but wasn't about to let that stop him. He told one of the Spartans to snipe out the Hunter, and the dog like creature. But as soon as the Hunter fell the creature sprang alert. Staring almost directly at the Spartans. John slowly raised his AR and aimed for the creature. It took off, zigzagging towards them. John could barley keep up with the creature. He just saw the creature at points; he knew that he needed to kill it before it got to close. He concentrates, watching, and before long he fires. The creature falls, john shot right through the animal's leg. John knew it wasn't dead; he raised his gun again and shot it in the head. The purple blood splatters over the ground floor, it takes a full round to kill the beast but John doesn't care. As the beast slowly dies, John sees its chest rising more, and more.
MC: Run!
But before he can move the beast explodes, blood and guts staining all of the Spartans armor.
MC: Damn! The stealth won't have any effect now. Turn them off boys. Cortona give me a view of everything breathing in there. I want to know what I need to kill.
Cortona: Already on it; I got you the security camera. They should provide a good view.
MC: Good, ok marines we are going in the east wing. Who know the building best?
Spartan: I do Sir!
MC: What is you name?
Spartan: Rat. They call me Rat. I am the navigator.
MC: Good. Show me the best plan.
John shows Rat the camera and the blueprints.
Rat: Ok, it seems that the Covenant have a strong force here.
Rat points to the main entrance of the east wing.
Rat: So I suggest we go in over the top of the building. Drop in right in the middle of corridor five and take them out. We would be fighting on higher ground, that's a good thing. But there is a bad thing.
MC: And that bad thing is?
Rat: The instant we open fire on them the Covenant in corridor six through ten would hear us. They would join the fight, and we would be flanked. If we do it that way we also have about five of those exploding things on our asses.
MC: Just call them dogs for now.
Rat: Ok, now I propose we go through the roof, and bomb the entire east wing. I say about five PP grenades would be good enough.
MC: Fine, lets make it happen. Troops MOVE OUT!
