Shell Shock-chapter 6
The marines were pushed back and pushed forward, but the enemy had vehicles and endless infantry inside the base they never really had a chance. _______________________________________________________________________
Tyrell opened his eyes to see piles of corpses and weapons in stacks off to the side of the door entrance. Two Elites guarded the door, plasma lances glowing. Fitzgerald pulled himself to his knees and made a grab for a stray assault rifle. He recovered the MA5B and clenched the trigger, showering the alien's shields to flare. Both turned, one was not allowed to keep his head. The fountain of purple blood spayed upward, staining the floor with bone and bits of brain. The Master Sergeant fired again tearing three holes in the chest plate and puncturing the Elite's skin. The body went limp and crumbled to the ground. Tyrell found his helmet lying near were he awoke. He looked around, seeing that the area was clear, ducked into a wall mounted armory station and activated his battle recording. Satchel charges had killed 97% of the marines holding the gate, forcing it open, letting covenant flow inside. Tyrell deactivated it when the sound of whining plasma and rattle of assault weapons engaged around the other corner. Corporal Salazar and Private Reline were crouched behind a fallen wall mounted computer, firing against a wave of Brutes. Fitzgerald instinctively fired a long burst into the nearest Brute and bashed the next with the butt of his rifle. "Sarge? That you sir?" Reline asked. "You got it Private, where's the rest of the squad?" Fitzgerald replied. "Truthfully sir, I really don't know, they're scattered thin along with the surviving marines. "Then let's move." Tyrell ordered. Gunnery Sergeant Reinhart led his squad up a staircase to the wall. The marines needed the bridge that led further into the base. Master Sergeant Klein took the other side. Klein would take point and try to secure the area around the bridge long enough for the snipers to realize what was going on. The entire wall was littered with bodies and was now under Covenant control. Reinhart peered over the edge to see Klein's squad pop from the opposite side. The comprised blasts of shotguns and assault rifles riddled every unsuspecting Brute near the bridge. Sniper rounds tore into the gold clad Elite behind Klein. The gunny jumped from his cover and struck down two Brutes. Two Vipers appeared in the causeway below the bridge...melting down two of Reinhart's men. Private Francis shouldered the M19 SSM launcher and sent a 102mm load of death into the Vipers. Private Finn suddenly fell off the bridge dead. "That would be our time to shine boys!" Reinhart yelled. Tyrell had assembled a small team of stray marines that were either the last survivors or separated from their teams. Announcements over the loudspeakers bellowed to the marines throughout the base: "All marine teams get to the pelicans, ASAP, we're abandoning the base. Tyrell didn't argue with that, seeing a battered, but suitable pelican dropship for his team. Lieutenant Conner Davidson shoved the muzzle of his shotgun into an armless Brute's stomach. The animal looked up into his eyes and then suddenly clouded as the shotgun buckled. Conner's breathing sounded like a freight train, and everything else seemed muted, ever since the artillery slashed only feet from him. His hearing slowly began to return with the sounds of gunfire and the whine of plasma rushed and flowing into it. He heard Diaz' voice yelling to him about something, when he felt a punch in his back. Davidson crumbled to the ground, his cheek touching the cold cement. Soldiers rushed by him and then felt one pick him up. He heard the clank of metal as the marine sat him in a dropship's seat. Fitzgerald was that marine, Tyrell looked down at where he had made the final ran were easily a score of corpses wearing marine green lay, after looking down, Tyrell saw a mere five pelicans made it out, the sixth was overwhelmed before take off. The Master Sergeant noticed Jones, Brant, and even Scott was in this dropship, where the others were he did not know. In his miserable void of thought sleep engulfed him and Tyrell slipped out of consciousness.
Collin Borne however wasn't on the five dropships; he was one out of maybe two or three still alive left behind marines. He could make out Flight Lieutenant Jarred Caldwell taking off heads with his M9D pistol. Collin helped out with half a clip with his assault weapon and finished the aliens with a melee attack. Jarred gave him a nod and led him past a slaughter of marines. A Skyhawk fighter rested in the last hanger, Collin jumped in the second seat with Caldwell taking pilot. The fighter elevated and jetted outward from the hanger and was free of the base. Tyrell Fitzgerald awoke as the pelican touched down. The dropship had traveled miles and miles further than it should have, and finally rested upon the aircraft carrier, Nevada. The sea was rough and anxious, all the way to Japan. Japan was a Covenant controlled island, containing who know how many there were. Staff Sergeant Walker jumped down into the tiny patrol boat, three other men hopped in including: Private Davis, Private Jenson, and Corporal Jones. Jones was the S2 bearer on this run; Walker held his M90 close while Davis carried a MA5B along with Jenson. None of them wore combat armor, just fatigues and essential gear. Jones brought his rifle around to see a large ripple in the water; he reluctantly turned and accessed his 2x scope. It was around midnight and it was raining hard, jungle surrounded the river the team sailed down. The edges of the river was covered with a mob of tall trees, then Samuel Jones saw two green clad Elites pop out and brought their sniper rifles to bear. Sam remained calm and took off both of their heads. "More over here!" Jenson warned as he fired a burst into the first Jackal's head. Jones fired several shots in quick succession and reloaded. After passing a marine body washed unto the shore, Davis saw the ripple in the water again. He leaned over the edge of the boat and felt a clamp on his wrist. The marine howled in pain and tried to his hand free, the water were his wrist was, turned red. Giant jaws opened up over his head and crunched down onto his shoulder area, then the creature pulled Davis' lifeless body under the murky water. Jenson's face turned to horror as Davis' legs flailed in the air and the alligator pulled him under. Cory Jenson emptied his clip into the water after the creature but with no avail. Jones and Walker looked completely undisturbed. Cory knew they had been in the corps for a few years, but still, seeing a man ripped in two and pulled underwater bleeding all the way, greatly frightened. Jenson shook it off and readied his rifle, searching the jungle terrain. Finally their boat arrived at the rally point. A fire team of marines from another patrol boat stood on shore, waiting for them. Jenson slapped in a fresh clip for his rifle and left the boat stained with Davis' blood. 2nd squad moved in quietly searching and looking for Covenant. Sam held his rifle at his shoulder, then suddenly a lance of plasma seared through the marine in front of him, the man's fingers clenched the trigger of the MA5B rifle, sending stray slugs everywhere. "Bobby's hit, get down!" someone screamed. Two marines knelt and fired upon the enemy...both went down from a stationary gun cut through them. Jones killed two Brutes, then caught sight of Jenson in hand to hand combat with an Elite, Jones swung his rifle to bear and fired... Cory's face went blank as he felt the Elite's brains and blood shower across his face and upper fatigues. "Holy crap!" he said aloud. Cory turned and stabbed the Brute behind him with his bayonet. Jenson felt the adrenaline start to leave his body from a harsh whack to the back of his head and all went black...
