Chapter 4- The Fight for Halo
Zander grabbed a rocket launcher and aimed for the entrance while everyone else followed the suite. Soon they heard the grunts of Hunters being heard forcing their way inside the weapons cahce. When two hunters ran in the view of the rocket laucnher a horde of rockets shot off and came their way. 5 rockets blew apart the hunters then 3 more came, then 3 rockets matched them while the others reloaded. Soon the other 5 rushed in one behind the other. Again another horde of 8 rockets met them at the entrance before they could get into the weapons cache.
"That all?" Travis said hoping to have been done with them.
"What about the others? ya know before you came to pick us up, you didn't kill them all."
"Well let's load up and prepare for battle then." With a smile on his face he grabbed a shotgun and two pistols, then 4 grenades. Everyone had shotguns and grenades. Brent had a Sniper Rifle and a Assualt Rifle.
"Some keep their AR's we might need them." 3 marines nodded and picked up their AR and ar ammo with a pistol each. Foot steps were heard walking into the cache. Brent and 3 others drew thier guns toward the door, The footsteps grew closer it was like waiting for death listening to these footsteps, Brent didn't feel threatened just scared.
The figure walked in revealing himself. To everyone's avail it was the legendary Master Chief.
"Dont worry bout them. Sides got some orders for you. Time to take out this halo." Chief said without a hint of fear
"How?!" Brent asked.
"Take out the control center." Cortana said "Apparently I did'nt notice on Alpha halo that it had a self-destruct mechanism."
"Easier said then done." Zander was realoading his AR.
"Don't worry we've got a pelican with men outside waiting, and I'll be coming along for the ride too." A smile came across nearly every marines face. Everyone finished getting ammunition and headed outside where the pelican awaited.
"Hit it lieutenant." The Chief instructed. They headed for the control center, Cortana insured it was just like before and it was under ground. The pelican headed underground were Cortana insured the control center was. Soon enough they reached a door that lead into the covenant structures. There were ten other men beside Master Chief, Zander, Brent, Foster, and Zack.
"Go,go,go!" Chief instructed as they went toward the door. Zander and Brent aimed toward the door while Chief and two other marines ran inside intructing it was clear. Everyone ran into the structure and headed for the next door.
"Watch it." Chief instructed as 3 Elites came out from the door and shot toward the marines. Two marines threw frags and took down the shields while Master Chief unloaded clips of ammo unto the Elites. Two more jackals ran out into the mix to be gretted by a grenade from Chief, Like he inticipated the attack. Chief lead point with 3 marines bringing up the rear and everyone else in the middle. We entered a long hallway with two walls that lead into a dark ceiling. Master Chief kept an eye above while walking foward to the door. Half-way into the hallway 3 unknown enemies came down. Two marines were smashed in the impact. Master Chief let out 3 clips killing two of the monsters, when the last one tore a marine in half, then Brent put a grenade near the thing, blowing it to bits.
"Everyone Ok?" Chief asked. Noone answered
"To the door." Chief ran to the door. He stopped and turned around covering the rest of the marines. When everyone was in the door two elites ran toward them. Soon two more monsters dropped down attacking the elites, the doors shut.
"Allow me." Cortana locked the door making sure noone else could get through.
"Those things, There called Brutes. Just so you know." Everyone nodded. Now 7 marines stood with Chief, Brent, and the rest of the pack. They walked into a room through a solid steel door, Walking slowley and stealthfully they split into two groups. Chief, Zander, and 4 marines in one group and 3 marines, Brent, Zack, and Foster in the other. They went down the halls meeting no resistance and no signs of enemies in the entire area.
"Quiet...." Zander said when they all met at the door.
"Too Quiet, Keep on your toes." Master Chief instructed. They walked into the next hallway it was a long hallway with a lower level connected from 20 ramps each sperated by a pillar. Zander lead with Brent by his side watching for anything that moved, to the crappy luck a jackal saw then before Brent slammed a 3-round blast into its body just then 2 Elites ran around the corner expecting somone and Firing in there direction. Chief glady saw the chance and picked up a plasma from the jackal and hooked it to a Elite. The Elite screamed running straight for Chief but soon inciterated before it could get to him. Brent and Zander to this oputunity to unload on the last Elite while it was busy staring at Chief and grunting something in his language. Before the Elite could finish it had a clip ground its shield to nothing and another 10 bullets set it to the ground. Master Chief lead through the door and into the next hallway. Again the hallway was dark near the ceiling. Chief turned on his light but it couldn't reach the top of the ceiling. He fired three round blast at the ceiling hitting it and for a split second he saw something that made his gasp.
"Look now." He shot again. This time full blast showing a marines body stuck to the ceiling by means of spikes from something. Everyone gasped seeing the marines body covered in dry blood.
"Who came down here before us?"
"Remember that team of 20, They gave the order to take the ring out before I got to you so they sent them in." Chief told him wishing this wasnt true. Before anyone could gather their barrings two Brutes rushed out the door with 2 marines bodies. Droping the bodies at the sight of Chief they shot. Chief gladly slammed two clips into the Brutes setting one down and injuring the other. 3 marines shot knocking off the other one by slamming at least 20 round into his head. The Brute hit the ground as a marine moaned.
"Get an HealthKit now!" Chief ordered.
".....Help...."
"Dont talk we got you!"
"The Marines.....on the......ceiling......the're.....alive..."
"ALIVE!" A marine yelled out.
"Get him down he's alive now!" Chief instructed gathering the marines one by one into his arms away from the door. Lying them down he gave him a kit fixing his wounds but still unable to speak well the marines rested. 2 Marines stacked untop of another grabbing at the marine.
"Got em, He was stuck pretty good, He had a a friend with him too. The kit helped alot and stopped bleeding, We got an IV on them now." Zack reported to Chief.
"Good, Lets set camp here tonight ya'll gonna need rest."
"Here?"
"Yes, a problem?"
"But were in a hallway!"
"Dont worry ill stand post and so will marines in a routine. Alright lets get some patrols around here." Two marines sat down indian style ready for something to bust into the hallway. After about an hour another marine took his spot. This routine continued untill the Chief signaled it was light out. 2 of the 4 marines could finnaly walk now. Injured they couldnt hold a rifle to well. After a few miunutes of walking they got to a bridge from where they were to aparently where they want to be from Master Chiefs expression in his voice. Chief crossed obviously expecting a raid of some sort, Everyone was in the middle of the bridge and progressing when they heard the hum from a banshees engine.
"Go! Run hurry." Chief told everyone too waiting for the banshee to turn the corner. Marines rushed to the door while Some caried the injured. Brent was one of them he put a marine over his shoulder and told him to shoot if it shot at them. Not even a heartbeat later 2 banshees flew straight over the bridge without shooting, They made a round back entering a huge spray of bullets knocking a banshee out of the air and the other avoiding the blasts came down shooting straight at a pack of marines. It shot a missle straight at them, Only 2 outta the 5 lived. When it zipped over the bridge Master Chief seem to predict where it would come and stuck a plasma grenade to it. After the regular 8 second count for the grenade it went off taking the Elite into the air and straight to the ground below.
"Whos left?" Zander asked hoping to hear good news.
"3 Were killed by a plasma missle, that leaves 13." Brent was still carrying a injured marine and so was Zack the other 2 injured marines were walking fine. When Master Chief got their attention he ordered for them to get across the bridge and into the other door. They did so without any more casualties. This time the door lead into a room with a hallway leading down towards the ground. When the entered the room a Jackal imediantly screamed notifying the other covenant in the room. Foster gladly shot it down, Then they could hear more covenant rushing toward them. 3 Elites and 5 grunts ran to them shooting at anything. The Elites shot straight at Brent almost hitting him, He could feel the Radiation off the shot. A grenade entered the pack of Covenant blowing the grunts too pieces and damaging the rest. One Elite grabbed at its now missing arm while Zack slammed a whole clip into its torso. The other 2 Elites shields went down with no other damage, untill 4 marines rushed them mowing them down with shotgun fire. Everyone headed for the door in military manner covering the person in front of them. Chief lead point and walked down the hallway slowly. Seemed that no covenant were guarding the hallway much less the door that lead outside. When the walked outside there was a huge structure apparently that lead to the control room.
"That was alot faster then last time wont you say?" Cortana commented. Brent was staring at the sturcture it had about 6 levels that lead in a neverending platform to the top and two ramps leading to the platform. At the top there was a smaller structure that had a walkway leading up like a staircase. Brent was in a daze staring at the structure it seemed familiar to him for some reason but he couldnt tell.
"Whats up?"
"I dont know....Just seems familiar."
"What? Your kidding right?"
"I wish i was." Brent then snapped out of it watching Chief walk up the ramp with other marines singaling him to follow.
"Hey, Lets get going." Just then gunfire erupted from the top of the structure, listening to screams of convenant and marines Brent still stood there starting at the strucutre wondering why this seemed familiar to him.
