Chapter 2: Thunder of the Empire
November 4, 2552
Imperial Shuttle
En route to Cairo Station
0700 Hrs
The black void of space was littered full of fragments from an ongoing space battle. Tear drop shaped Seraphs battled Longsword's and a new enemy. The Imperial Tie Defenders brought much chaos into this already confused maelstrom of one-on-one duels. Missiles, plasma and laser fire filled the vacuum as chunks of organic hulls and their metal counterparts floated aimlessly as a convoy approached. An Imperial shuttle, with its tri-wing design, flanked by four Tie Defenders on each side, elegantly floated towards a battered space station, the grayish colour worn with black scorch marks from an ongoing battle, inside and out. The hanger was open and as the shuttle drifted in, the bodies of aliens bumped the spacecraft. The sudden decompression caught these creatures off guard, thus they died a painful death of asphyxiation.
Lord Vader with his complement of 18 commandos filled the cargo hold. These elite soldiers differed from their trooper cousins. Their dress was still of the clone trooper age but with improved armour. Their helmets like their older counterparts still featured the elongated "T" with the bottom half being half an "X." Their white armour encrusted with silver secondary colour along with their black capes. This symbolized them as Vader's own bodyguards.
The shuttle pivoted and touched down with the troopers storming out and flanking their lord. They hopped their way through the zero-G environment to an elevator on their TAC map, courtesy of Lord Hood. As the elevator sprung to life, they concocted a plan. They would go in two groups, the first was to secure the floor and signal the second group to come up with Vader.
The elevator decelerated and came to a halt, opening into a long, dimly-lit hallway. The commandos slowly slithered through the corridor until they reached the door. The point man jumped through the door with the repeating blaster at the ready.
Empty!
Bodies littered the floor as red, purple and other multicolored blood tainted the metal grating. The commander sent an "all clear" communication pulse to the second group; Vader and party could come up.
"Commander, how do we get to the bridge?"
"We, have to go through an airlock, cross through the exterior of the station until we reach another elevator, and that should take us to another corridor. This corridor will take us to a tram, that will arrive when we signal this Lord Hood that we have arrived at this junction."
"Very well, let's make it so commander; we do not have all day."
After floating through space and reaching the heavy lift elevator, the commando party reached the exterior of the tram room. The commander however signaled the party to halt; motion was detected on the scanner. The party scout peered through the doorway, with his silenced blaster at the ready. The creature that inhabited the room was a small stocky alien, no more than 5" 1' and it had a breathing apparatus. Comparing the alien to the picture from Lord Hood's data stream revealed it to be a Grunt. The scout sent a video feed to his commander; a green light was received. He balanced the blaster so it was level and fired a shot.
The only thing the Grunt heard was a "puff" and then its head exploded with purple gore.
The commandos then stormed the courtyard, moving fast and keeping low. The two commandos with repeating blasters covered the air with suppressing fire. Out of this chaos, two massive beasts appeared. One of these creatures lifted its, plowing over a commando who came too close. The force of the blow cleanly cut the commando in half, to the commander's surprise. The video feed flashed, identifying the creatures as Hunters, courtesy of Lord Hood again.
"Party A, SUPRESS! Party B, Flank and Destroy, hit their exposed flesh," the commander ordered.
"Not enough time commander, let me deal with these things"
"Go my lord, hurry."
The sudden appearance of Vader caused the Lekgolo pair to pause momentarily. Vader uses this time to engage his light saber and leapt through the air to the closest hunter. With a swish of the saber, the first hunter went down with a clean diagonal cut through its armour. The second hunter, enraged over its brother's death, lashed out at Vader. Having to evade a blow from its shield, the commandos unleash a hellish barrage of blaster and laser fire on the walking tank. Its shield started to dent and crumble, but the beast held on. The lekgolo then pointed its free arm at the commandos and fired a shot from its attached fuel rod cannon. The ensuing blast sent most of them scurrying for cover, wounding two of the commandos. Vader, already up, pointed his hand at the behemoth and clenched his fist. The armour on the hunter contracted and crushed the colony of worms inside that made the hunter. The beast then fell to its knees and the orange gore of the worms started to ooze out.
"Commander, tell Hood we are awaiting the tram," Vader ordered.
"As you wish my lord."
