HALO: Return Reunion Chapter 1-Rude Awakening

The commands flashed on the monitor exactly as Cortana had entered them into the computer.
“Welcome Back” greeted Cortana as I just lay there staring up into oblivion once again realizing why cryo-sleep wasn’t natural. I slowly exited the tube as my whole body coursed with the sensation of billions of needles pricking me everywhere.
“Sleep Well?” Cortana asked, and I just replied with a blank stare.
“Where am I?”
“Your on the LongSword Beacon of Hope and you were en route to Earth”
“Oh.” Then it slowly all then came back to me with slight sadness Reach, Halo, covenant, flood, Keyes, Pillar of Autumn, and everyone gone just gone. Then a slight grin came to my face, flood and covenant gone, I gave off a soft snicker at the thought.
I thought about it all as I looked around the fighter, different monitors displayed info about telemetry, long and short range scanners, maps, and other pertinent information. It was kind of close in here, there was only one walkway from the cockpit that headed strait back to a door that lead to the small hanger that carried the ship’s payload. On the right side of the walkway there were a few assault rifles sitting in their brackets along with a sniper rifle mounted above it, and a missile launcher with 2 cases of Spnkr missiles mounted below. And on the left there were some cabinets, and a crawlspace, that could be used to gain entry to the engines.
“Master Chief,” said Cortana.
“Huh” I said snapping back into reality giving my brain slight whiplash. “Are we at Earth yet Cortana?”
“Well no not exactly,” she replied.
“Then why did you wake me, Where are we?”
“Well we are currently holding position in the asteroid belt just past Mars,” an asteroid belt that’s an odd place, I thought to myself as she was talking, “And I woke you because well you need to see this before we move any further in towards Earth.”
“What is it Cortana?”
“Well This.” and as she spoke an image of a planet came up on the main display screen. The planet was red, orange, and black from the smoke and fire in the atmosphere, but through it you could see large explosions dotting the surface. The planet was being orbited by thousands of covenant cruisers and various ships.
“Whoa it would suck to be on that colony right now, but Cortana what is so important that the covenant would put all their forces in destroying it, oh and why did you wake me up for this?” “All I want is to get home and report what happened back there.”
“Well that is, Chief, well that is home, that’s why the covenant forc....”
“WHAT?!! THAT’S EARTH, H-H, HO, HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE, HOW DID THEY FIND EARTH?!!!”
“Well Chief it was just a matter of time before they found it.”
“THIS TIME THEY HAVE CROSSED THE LINE CORTANA, FIRST THEY INVADE MY HOME WORLD, THEN THEY DESTROY MY ENTIRE SQUAD, THEN THEY RELEASE THE FLOOD CAUSING ME TO HAVE TO DESTROY THE PILLAR OF AUTUMN AND ITS ENTIRE CREW)!!! NOW THAT REALLY PISSED ME OFF, BUT NO THEY CAN’T STOP THERE, OH NO THEY HAVE TO GO AND ATTACK EARTH TO TOP IT OFF!!! NOW THE COVENANT WILL PAY!!!”
“CHIEF, CHIEF, Calm down, please!”
“Sorry Cortana, it just really gets me how they think they can just walk into our neck of space and just wipe out everything that we have spent thousands of years creating. Like HELL they will, like hell.”
“Well Chief we need to sit down and come up with a battle plan.”
“Cortana where is the UNSC headquarters currently held up right now?”
“Roswell, New Mexico.”
“Uh-huh, well Cortana set a coarse for it.”
“Are you crazy? You expect us just to fly through the covenant right into UNSC HQ?”
“Well yes, and no. We will be making a Pit Stop at that larger Covenant Cruiser, what’s it called? The Redeemer, yes that one over there.”
“WHAT ARE YOU CRAZY, DID I FORGET TO UPLOAD YOUR COMMONSENSE, OR SOMETHING?”
“No, no I’m perfectly fine, see they started this party without me, and well if I’m gonna join this party I need to make a grand entrance don’t I? And what better way then to bring down that Battle Cruiser over there, plus I’ve got a score to settle for the Pillar.”
“But, but, bu...”
“There is no arguing this time. Plot a coarse, oh and try to use as little resources as possible in entering the cruiser I have a feeling we will be needing them in entering the Earth.”
“You’re the boss but I don’t think this will work.”
“Trust me Cortana I have a really good feeling about this one.” To Be Continued......
