Chapter One: URTH

This story was written before the 9-minute E3 demo was released. The story was inspired by the first official Halo2 trailer. I thought it would be neat to pick up after the Master Chief jumps out of the ship. Here's the story, please give me some critisism, it will only improve my writing. Earth is called URTH because I just added a little personal touch by screwing things up a bit.
"What the hell was that?" exclaimed Captain Lovell, "Cortana, I need a full report." The Pillar of Autumn IV was being swamped by Covenant battle cruisers in an attempt to destroy the ship. "The A9 and D14 nacelles have been hit as well as the life pods. It's the covenant, sir. They are attaching their boarding craft to our life pods. We go out and they come in.", replied Cortana, the computer's A.I. "Enough of that crap, Cortana. How bad is it?" "We won't be able to land, that's for sure. With the damage, the only way off of this ship is the life pods and to make things worse, sir, they're detaching like mad." "Do what I must; I am not getting off this ship until all my crewmen have boarded the pods safely." He said, pausing for a few seconds to think. "You know what, forget it. Charge the MJOLNIR armour and get the Master-Chief out of the cryo. Suit him up ASAP." "Sir?" "Now, Cortana!" Cortana rushed through the main computers, bypassing all the key-grants and ID checkpoints. She immediately activated the Master-Chief's body-suit and discharged him from the cryo-chamber. The Master-Chief jumped up in PANIC mode and given the circumstances presented before him, it wasn't an incorrect state to be in. "The Captain needs you on the bridge now, sir." shouted Cortana. The Master Chief was the elite of any soldiers created by the human race. He was equipped with many gadgets to help him face any task. The helmet, which he wore with proud, sported a heat-shielded lens capable of withstanding the brightest of the Sun's rays. His storage container was capable of holding 12 grenades as well as one other major weapon. The Master Chief's favourite weapon was the Assault Rifle AR34. It was capable of holding 670 rounds and he had trained himself to reload magazines in mere seconds. The Master-Chief rushed to the bridge, having only about 46 percent of his MJOLNIR charged up and ready for battle. He jolted from the armoury after stocking up on fragmentation grenades, assault rifles, pistols, and rocket launchers. He brushed off debris from his shoulder several times along the way; the ship was literally falling apart. He stormed to the bridge and found Captain Lovell. "Would you like me to issue a CDA alert, sir?" asked Cortana. "For who? No one is left on the ship. They've fled; you think anyone cares Lovell is dead? We were too late. Cortana, I need to get off this ship; how many pods are left?" "Sir," Cortana said, pausing for a second, "None." The Master Chief walked up to a screen where he accessed the ship's schematic diagrams. "There!" he said, pointing to the transport area. "I'll use the transport bay. I'll need my MJOLNIR charged right away. I am going to need full support on this one and as much strength as I can get." The Master-Chief rushed to the transport bay only to realize all the emergency craft were gone. He carefully studied the room, looking for an exit from the ship. "Chief, I know what you're thinking, it's too risky." Cortana advised. "Do you have a better solution to our quarrel?" The Master Chief re-iterated. "Good point. Work your magic, Chief. I know I'm only a computer program, but I'd like to say that it was wonderful working alongside you. After the ship goes down, an electromagnetic pulse will be sent out, deleting my program." "Was? Cortana, you're coming with me." He said as he implanted Cortana's program files into his system database. The Master Chief walked up to the first column from the left of the room and slammed down the red PANIC button which opened a shaft with a series of handles and buttons. After entering the right combinations of numbers, a long red handle ejected from the side of the column. "I need to get off this ship" the Master Chief yelled. "But what if you miss the target?" asked Cortana. "I won't!" exclaimed the Chief in his deep voice. He lightly placed his fingers around the clutch of the handle and dropped his arm. The massive cargo doors opened, whisping everything away. Everything.
Although at this point, he believed it was nearly impossible for any life form to still be thriving, the Master-Chief armed his assault rifle and slammed the last of his magazines into the dual-loading cartridge slots. He needed to be ready for anything. He packed up the rest of his gear (grenades, guns, RLs, armour prep kits) and set off for what he thought would be the last few hours of his life. "Ten percent of stored health in the containers and I have no source for renewal. Sleeping will buy me seconds, minutes maybe from this point; I must get a move on." the Master-Chief whispered to himself as he started hiking along a ground of pure black soot. He noticed a small leaf-looking object stuck under a rock. He thought it was nothing, however, decided to check it out anyways. Sure enough, the rock was like an overturned teacup, the perfect area for something to grow when the rest of the world rejected its survival. The Master Chief flipped the rock over and dug the root out of the ground. It was a patch of nuju berries, a high source of a hybrid bryllillium-chromium which he knew would keep him sustained at a safe level of health for at least another forty-eight hours. He observed his health meter multiply more than seven times within a period of six seconds. With his health just under seventy percent and not knowing where his next source of energy would come from, he began what he assumed would be a long hike across the rough terrain of the earth. Within the first fifteen minutes of his trek, something out of the unexpected happened. The Master-Chief heard a muffled droning sound. Upon looking up, he noticed an unidentifiable craft floating overhead. Not knowing whether the craft was covenant or human, he readied a few fragmentation grenades and armed his rocket launcher. The ship lowered and lowered, and appeared to have some sort of vehicle hovering at its rear. The vehicle on the end was the trademark of the human race. At this moment, the chief knew the ship was there to help him. "Sir! We had a solitary life trace left on the planet and its coding was human-generated." yelled a soldier as he came from the rear loading dock of the Flint Mark XI, a human military cruiser. "Weren't you hit during the battle?" asked the Master-Chief. "Luckily, we were about twelve thousand kilometres out of the blast radius and once the debris cleared and we noticed your signal, we powered or engines to one hundred twenty percent and almost blew out a nacelle trying to get here." "Thanks soldier, but I am pretty sure I'll be fine. Just leave me that Warthog and I'll make do with what I have." ordered the Master-Chief. "Sir, I have orders from Admiral Fatanon to bring you home, we need you ASAP." the soldier told the Master-Chief. "Tell the admiral that she can-" "Master-Chief, I need you back to Grigg's Base ASAP. That's an order. Should you disobey it, I will relieve you of your duties. Hear me well, commander." Said a voice over the soldier's comm-device addressing the Master-Chief. "At once, admiral!" the Master-Chief shouted over the comm device. "Do I hear sarcasm, Chief?" asked the admiral. "Wouldn't dream of it ma'am!"
