Planet Gnassaud, Solar system Tsiranis, Blood Faction Council. November 25th, 2552
"We must rise an army!" repeated Elite Gaurough for the third time.
"The faction can't afford it, we don't have people enough to support an army, nor money enough." Brute Cordal said.
Prophet Daloth: "Cordal is right, we don't have resources enough to support a new army! Besides, we can't stand a chance against the Forerunners alone, and I don't think that I'll have to repeat the situation out there for you."
A murmur of approval went through the building at the end of the Prophets speech.
Gaurough: "Remember who's in charge here! And, how are we going to come out this war if we aren't being offensive?"
Cordal: "Alive, if we are offensive the Forerunners will just fight their way around, and attack defenceless planets, and all of our home worlds will be defenceless if we use these tactics."
Once again a murmur of approval was heard, making Gauroughs temper rise.
Gaurough: "We'll be many enough to not let the Forerunners pass us."
"It isn't possible to be many enough when having Forerunners around. But braking natural laws isn't a problem for you, huh?" Cordal replied, and silence filled the room at the end of his sentence. Everyone knew that Gaurough couldn't come up with any argument that was good enough, everybody just waited for Gaurough to recognise that he was defeated.
Gaurough: "Okay, if you put it that way I can't say against you, but I'll let the rest of the Council decide until the next summit."
Cordal: "Lets go for it, but personally, I think that the Council already has decided what to do."
Gaurough: "Does anybody have anything else to tell the Council? No? Then I find this summit finished. Cordal, you're welcome to follow me."
Cordal: "Why?"
Gaurough: "I want to have someone to talk with, and after today I think that we're in need to empower our bands of friendship."
Cordal: "Gaurough, I thought that you knew that my bands of friendship doesn't get weaker because of political discussions."
Gaurough: "May I then, as a friend, give you a snack over a little talk?"
Cordal: "Okay, since you've got so pushy I can spend a few minutes on you."
"Then, please, follow me." Gaurough said as he ended the discussion.
They went through a door and came into a room with a big table, but no chairs. As Cordal looked himself around, he saw guards standing next to the walls in the room.
Cordal: "What do you have all the guards for?"
Gaurough: "Guards, put him out of action!"
One of the guards, a Brute, smashed Cordal in his back, making him lose his consciousness.
Cordal woke up, and was lying on the table in the room. He didn't know how long he was gone, but he knew that he was chained to the table in the room, and therefore unable to move.
"So, we're awake." It was Gaurough who spoke.
Cordal: "Gaurough, what the hell are you doing?"
Gaurough didn't take notice, and instead picked up a knife, which he started to weave slowly forth and back in the air, following it with his eyes. He started to speak: "Do you know what this is, Cordal?"
Cordal: "If it has something with you to do: out of function."
Gaurough: "Hmm... you won't have a that quick tongue once this thing penetrates your skin. This thing is called a Paingiver, and when it gets in contact with your blood, it will create an enzyme that your cells send out when they're damaged. The enzyme doesn't hurt you, but all of your nerves will feel an indescribable pain. If you tell me that you agree with me and starts to argue for my cause, I might not use it. But if you don't, you'll wish that you never had been born."
Cordal: "Ha, my life hasn't been so miserable that I'd wish it undone when I'm exposed to such a simple thing as a cut!"
Gaurough: "I'll enjoy the view of you in pain."
Gaurough took the Paingiver and used it to cut an open wound in Cordal. Cordal tensed his muscles and rushed his heart in fear as he felt the cold metal rip through his tissue. But all of this wasn't for the cut itself, but for the pain he thought would follow. At the start it didn't, he only felt the cut, and realized that he could live with it. Though, shortly thereafter the enzyme flowed through his veins, and a crushing, exploding, burning, freezing, drilling pain was felt in his body, it hurt so much that he couldn't even scream. The feeling changed, and suddenly Cordal felt everything that could possibly be associated to pain.
Gaurough: "Will you join my cause?"
Cordal: "Not a chance!"
"Do you regret being born? If not, you will soon." Gaurough said.
Gaurough drew the Paingiver through the flesh of Cordal one more time. Cordal started to panic and think strange thoughts. He wanted to scream, he wanted to give up, he wanted to... die. But he calmed down, and all of these thoughts were put aside by one last wish, one last desire, the desire to not let his torturer have an easy job.
Gaurough: "Have you changed your mind?"
Cordal: "Why would I?"
Gaurough: "Once I thought you were wise."
Gaurough yet again pushed the knife through the flesh of Cordal, yet again Cordal felt the pain, it didn't seem as painful now, but Cordal just got used.
Gaurough: "Are you willing to die?"
"I probably would be if you were better at this." Cordal said, and started to fear the result of his statement: a new cut.
What Cordal said heavily confused Gaurough, who now confronted a problem; would he let Cordal live, so he could torture him more (for now it almost seemed as if Cordal didn't feel anything), or would he kill Cordal, which - if you think that his statement was right - would be right against Cordals will? He chooses to continue, thinking that the Paingiver must have some kind of effect.
Cordal felt that every beat made by his rushed heart caused him more pain, and every cut empowered that feeling.
"Do you want me to kill you right now?" Gaurough said in anger.
Cordal: "I knew that you'd never had the patience to succeed in this torturing, you cant even stand my quick tongue. Haven't we just started?
The first sentence that Cordal uttered couldn't have been truer, the second was a statement that he knew that he had to pay for, an untrue statement made with the purpose to annoy Gaurough.
Gaurough slowly cut wound after wound, hurting Cordal more for every inch of flesh that the Paingiver cut through.
Gaurough: "Will you follow?"
Cordal: "I'd never follow anyone who didn't wanted the best for the Faction. You want it to fall, don't you?"
Gaurough: "I don't give a damn about the Faction, it's only a way of getting more power. I wouldn't mind if it stopped to exist."
Cordal: "Might I then ask you what power is if there is nothing to control?"
"No!" Gaurough said as he pushed the Paingiver through the chest of Cordal, hitting Cordals heart. As his heart beated slower and slower Cordal felt death approaching, and because of that he eased his mind, thinking that the torture soon would end. Still, he was angry that he didn't live longer, Gaurough deserved to be as angry as an Elite could be. Gaurough watched Cordal as his chest sank down. Cordal was dead, and Gaurough spitted him in his lifeless face before leaving.
