"Masterchief, John, wake up, Masterchief..."
"Huh, w-where am I"
"Your aboard a hi-jacked Covenant dropship." Cortana, the AI, said.
Then it all came back to him, everything that happened on Halo.
"We need to get back to the UNSC Control Center, we need to warn them of the Covenant fleet heading for them."
"Way ahead of you" replied Cortana "we are coming in for a landing now."
John, Masterchief-117, headed for the commander's office to debrief him. Upon meeting him, John saluted." At ease, spartan." Said Commander Polaski. "You said you wanted to see me?"
"Yes," John replied," there is a Covenant fleet on their way to this planet."
"How do you know this?"
"Because I was there, I only barely escaped on a dropship."
"Very well, then we will have to ready our marines and prepare our defenses, do you have a plan spartan?" Polaski said.
"Well, now that you mention it, yes, but I will need a special-operations team."
"Now that, I can give you, Chief."
John went to meet his newly assembled team, now known as Team Delta, consisting of 4 members, 5 if you included John. The first member, Sam, aka Delta Shadow, was the team's close combat weapons specialist. Next, was Li, aka Delta Bravo, the team's sniper. Will, aka Delta Gold, is the pilot, and José, aka Delta 1, is the explosives specialist.
After meeting each soldier, the Masterchief briefed them on their mission. Commander Polaski briefed his marines as well.
The Masterchief and the rest of Team Delta were gearing up when the unbelievable happened. There was a boom followed by the unmistakable 'whoosh' of a Wraith's mortar fire. They heard a crash as the Operations Control Center burst into flames and molten metal. The Covenant had done the unthinkable to attack such a heavily armed base. Although this also meant the Covenant would be fighting on the ground, giving the humans a scarcely received advantage in this war.
"Chief, should we still go ahead with the plan?" asked Will.
"Screw that plan, we gotta defend this base." replied John.
Team Delta was gearing up when they heard another boom.
"Sounds like there's more than one Wraith" said Sam.
Then Masterchief looked at one of the security camera feeds on the computer and couldn't believe what he was seeing.
"There is 9 Wraiths out there with at least 15 Banshees and over 400 ground troops!" shouted the Masterchief.
"How many marines do we have here?" asked Li.
"Only about 2 or 3 hundred." said José.
"I think we will need more guns." said Will.
The Masterchief and the rest of his team left the weapons room fully equipped with what they needed.
John then said, "All right, Li, you go on that cliff ledge to the west and snipe them to bits. Will, you get on a Scorpion tank and take out those Wraiths. Sam, José and I will help defend here at the base."
The rest of the team nodded in understanding and left to their positions.
Once Li was in position on the cliff over-looking the battle that was taking place he couldn't believe what he saw. There were so many Covenant troops he didn't know where to begin to shoot. So he decided on a Gold Elite standing on a rock directing a group of grunts. He took aim with his S2 AM sniper rifle, put the Elite's head in-between his crosshairs, and fired.
The Masterchief, Sam, and José were looking out over a makeshift bunker in front of the UNSC base with the rest of the Marines when they saw it. There was a Gold Elite standing on a rock when there was a shot followed by a mist of purple blood where the Elite's head used to be and then his body crumpled into a heap.
"That's Li!" shouted Sam. They then opened fire with the rest of the Marines on the Covenant. First there was confusion, as the Covenant didn't know what had happened. Then they opened fire on the Marines at the bunker. The battlefield immediately became a cloud of bullets and super-heated plasma going back and forth.
Will was already in the Scorpion when the battle begun. He was comfortable with the controls so he fired his 90mm shell right at the Wraith at the front of the army. The shell hit his target and the Wraith exploded into a flaming ball of molten metal and shrapnel. Will then turned on the ground units and fired his secondary armor piercing machine gun. He was just absolutely mowing them down when he looked up and saw a plasma mortar coming right for him. So he jumped out of the tank just as the mortar collided with it. The blast threw Will from where he was and he impacted hard with the ground.
John and his team were busy holding off the Covenant when he saw the tank explode. He was about to wonder if Will was still in it but then saw Will running toward the battle.
Li was busy taking out Elites and saw the tank blow up. Then he saw a Gold Elite approaching Will from behind. So Li shot the elite and hit his mark. The bullet inserted right into the Elite's brain and he died instantly.
Will heard the sniper shot and saw the elite die right behind him. Then he pulled out two M6C Magnums and quickly loaded a few rounds into a grunt in front of him. Just then another Gold Elite came out but this time he was holding a dangerous looking energy sword. Will pulled the trigger on his Magnum but it just made a clicking noise. He checked the clip but it was empty!
