A Story of Carnage
Introduction
It has been almost a year since rookie Private 1st class Jon Zweetslol has been to his homeland Sweden. He had been out in the cosmic beyond fighting the Covenant ever since he was put into active duty right after basics. Now he was back home, and all he wanted to do is forget all about all he has went through. First thing he did when he got back on Earth's soil was hit the bar. That was one way he could forget everything he had to endure and witness. Not every person has to go through what he had to almost everyday. Having to be put endangered, fearing every second that the very moment he is in right then could be his last. Those people are lucky that they are safe at home not having to worry about being burned alive.
Jon often wondered how he has made it back home alive. He had seen many of his close comrades fall to their knees and disintegrate before his own eyes. The horror of watching fellow humans die, is a sight that can drive a man insane or out of his mind. He remembered how he was on patrol with his squad one night, and came across a lone Marine that went AWOL. He was on the ground up against a concrete wall, mumbling to himself. Jon remembered no actual words being made by the Marine, it was all gibberish. Then when they tried to help him, the lone Marine opened fired on Jon's squad with a standard issued UNSC pistol. No one in his squad was hurt. But Jon had to bring the man down. The event haunted him, how he had to kill a man that was on the same side as his, with the same intent of only helping his fellow human race. It haunted him, because it was the first time he had ever killed something that wasn't alien. The images of the Marine being gun downed by his own bullets, ripping through his armor, tearing his flesh apart, it haunted him.
Now he just sat at a bar in his home town of Nykoping, Sweden. Drink after drink, until he was blackout drunk. There was the occasional, "maybe you had enough," from the bartender, but Jon didn't listen. He just wanted to drink until the memories didn't remain. Its been two weeks since Jon has been home, and not one day did he go sober. Its just so damn hard for him to forget everything. Two months after he got put into active duty, he got word that his fiancé had been diagnosed with leukemia and was beginning to become very ill. He wanted to go home to take care of her. But it just wasn't possible, he was stuck in a war zone with no way out. The planet was surrounded by a fleet of Covenant ships for the longest time and there was no possible way for him to get out alive.
It wasn't until five months later until he got news that she had passed away. The news of her death devastated him and was probably the breaking point where he just couldn't keep his sanity together. He had so much planned with her, soon as he was to get back from active duty, they were going to get married. But dreams were crushed just like that. But it wasn't the only thing to trouble him. Soon after, their base was attacked by Covenant forces and everyone in his battalion fought long and hard to repel them back. The battle lasted almost five days, off and on attacks, and the enemy would try and storm in but failed here and there. On the last day, the day the Covenant pulled back from the attack on the battalion's base. Jon's close friend, Ole Ohman, who was their for him since boot camp, was tagged by a Covenant plasma grenade. He remember his friend shouting and screaming. Right before Jon's eyes, the grenade went off in a blue fireball and there was nothing left to Ole's body.
Shredded Humans
"Another shot," The 26-year-old Jon demands from the bartender. He takes the shot glass, tips it up to his lips and quickly swallows the liquor that burns as it heads down his throat. He takes a second to shake it off and tries hard to suppress the memories.
You could look into Jon's eyes and see that he was stoned. Hell, he probably can't even walk he is so stoned. "I'm gonna head out," Jon says to the bartender and lays down a couple of bills.
"I'm really concerned about you, Jon." Jon looks at the chubby bartender. "Maybe you should just call someone to come and get you." Jon just takes a few seconds, then he looks away from the bartender and throws on his coat.
Jon has a hard time walking out of the bar and getting out the door, has even a harder time getting into his truck. First he struggles with the keys and unlocking the door, then struggles with getting the truck started. After two or three minutes have passed, he gets the truck running and pulls the truck out of the bar's parking lot and onto the slick dark road. Its the middle of the night, and the roads are mostly cleared. Ever once in a while a car from the opposite way comes in Jon's direction and swerves to avoid him. To make conditions worst, its the middle of winter, and the roads are wet from all the snow. Very dangerous driving conditions indeed, especially when you're drunk and can barely keep on the road.
As he drives, he begins to lose consciousness and travels into the next lane. A speeding car ahead of him blows their horn to try an warn him, but it doesn't help. Then its too late, Jon collides into the car knocking him out on impact. There is a loud crash then the sound of scraping metal against the pavement that can send chills down the spine of anyone's back. Jon's truck does a 180 spin then it rolls over and over as bits and pieces of the truck flies off. Then the truck comes to an stop and all is quiet.
After about thirty minutes Jon regains his consciousness and shakes it all off. He takes a moment to look around and finds himself laying on the top of the inside of his truck. The whole front end of the truck is smashed in and the window is completely shattered. He crawls out from the broken out window of the driver's door and staggers to his feet then to only fall against the side of his flipped truck. He sits there for a while and watches bloods drip onto the hard pavement from an open cut on his forehead. A couple of minutes later Jon forces himself to his feet and looks over in the direction of the car he ran into. It looks a mess and he walk towards the small totaled car.
He gets to the car and pauses for a long time at the horror he sees. In the driver's seat, there is a man with his head smashed into the steering wheel. His whole front of his head is smashed in, it looks as if someone has beaten his face in with a rock. In the back seat of the driver's side there is a small boy up against the driver's seat. His neck looks peculiar. Oh why, his neck must have snapped on impact and Jon steps back a couple of feet taking everything he sees in. But then, there is something that catches his eyes to the left.
There is a woman, about five or seven feet from the car laying on the pavement on her side. He walks a littler closer to get a better view and falls to his knees in great horror and disgust. The woman, she was ejected from her seat when the two vehicles slammed into each other the woman went straight through the front window.
From the window and to the woman's body, there is a string of intestines stretched out from her stomach. There is blood everywhere, organs hanging out, bile waste leaking from her body, innards thrown all over the road. Two feet from her body, is a baby all smashed up and torn in half. The woman must have been pregnant, and on her way to the hospital. That must explain why the car was speeding.
Jon throws up a few times where he is from the mixture of carnage and alcohol. He is very aware of what has happened, and is surprised that no one has discovered the crash site yet. Jon knows he has already been put through enough shit already, and can't handle a charge for manslaughter. Because of him, he shredded this poor family without the intent of doing so. But still, its murder, and he was responsible. So what does Jon do now? He walks away from the scene.
Outro
After that day, Jon was never seen again. The police went to his house many times for questioning but he was never found to be home. They went to his friends and family, but they never heard word from him let alone seen him. A search was put out to find Jon, and it wasn't long until a corpse was discovered in a creek bed twenty miles from his hometown. The was body was mostly decayed and rotten and couldn't be identify. It took a while for an official autopsy report to come out, but once one was made. The body was indeed to be Jon Zweetslol, his cause of death was suicide. Shot to the head.
No one ever really knew what happened that night.
