AN: This is my first time writing Halo fiction, so if you see any mistakes, please notify me.
Death always worked around her. That's how an Vindicare Assassin always worked around, the souls and sounds of death and carnage. That's how an Vindicare Assassin has always work in the service of the Holy Emperor. The Holy Emperor that was a living demi-god, a living yet not god of war. She remembered the stories, but cared not remember them.
In front of her, and a bit to the left, was General Jaczak Strunn, a big man yet no fat dare touch his body. His body was built around a mass of muscle, seemingly, and it bothered her that the fifty six year old man, with the thin grey hair, could look as intimiating. 'He has the Imperial Guard to thank for that' she wondered again, standing rigidly at parade rest but her eyes hidden by the mask. She darted them to the man standing next to her, and to the left of Sturnn.
This man was quite different by appearance. High cheek bones, a sharp face, and a thin body frame that a Imperial Guard uniform that barely fit his body frame and mass accompanied with gave the idea that this man had seen more action than anyone other than an Officer in the Imperial Guard. He had red hair cut in a flattop that had the mark of headphones in the shape of the hair, he was also standing at parade rest. The man, she remembered, was Sergeant Tex Isguil.
Across the room, in front of the hard oak table that seperated the room in two, stood an man that had the weathered look of Tex but he was considerably older. He appeared at least sixty , but then again he wore the Space Marine battle armor of a Officer, with red and a dark white color as the paint scheme, and that changed her mind of a weak old man. He had scars along his face, the ones caused by Daemons on the Gorcian Border near Tau space. She now remembered the name, the name that caused cheers now in the Imperium. Brother-Colonel Gabriel Angelos, Captain of the Guard and the Commanding Officer of the Blood Ravens, a truly honored Space Marines Chapter.
Behind him and to the left was another man, except he was dressed in a different color scheme than Brother-Colonel Angelos. His main color was black, covering the body armor and the leggings, but the knee caps and the shoulder pads were a dark gold, and the crest of the Eagle with the Emperor's Staff visible on the right shoulder. His eyes were a bright blue, including the white and black areas of the eyes itself as he stared forward. Another she noticed about Brother-Captain Markus Havickseeker was the standard he had on his back, indicating him as the Captain of the Guard and the Commanding Officer of the Black Eagles.
Behind Gabriel and to his right was one more man, a man that appeared more worse than the rest of the men around her. Standing tall, the man stood with his black hair slick back, and a thin body that the Space Marine armor barely incompassed. On his back was his standard, also, and appeared more distinct that the rest. The symbol of the U was present, and the word: ULTRA written under it gave Brother-Captain Kevin Ladioa the distinction of being the Captain of the Guard and the commanding officer of the Ultramarines.
She then looked to herself, wearing the skin-tight Unedlau armor, along with her face mask to hide her face from the rest of the men here in the room. It was the Unspoken Law of the Vindicare Assassin Temple, to never reveil your face while on duty for the Service of the Holy Emperor. It's a miracle that man has been sleeping for the forty thousand years since his last battle... She thought to herself, remembering the battle between the Chaos Followers and the Emperor and the Grey Knights, the most holy of the Space Marine Chapters.
"Brother-Colonel Angelos, I am now imploring you to help me defeat the forces of Eldar on this planet! They are overwhelming me with their hide and seek tactics, and I have not faced as many Eldar in my life to know how they operate! My exeutive officer, Colonel Tobias, said to contact you, Brother-Captain Havickseeker and Brother-Captain Ladioa to deal with this threat!" General Sturnn asked, his eyes red with tiredness and the natural occurance of bleeding.
"I personally know Colonel Tobias, and I know he would not have sent for me unless he thought it was nessecary. However, I somewhat doubt your judgement in this case. Why all three of us?" Angelos replied back, with the look of sad grief in his eyes. She recalled the mission where Angelos had to call a Cleasning upon the world of Ciren, his homeworld, after it was overrun with the forces of Chaos and the warlike Orks. She also remembered that he would not hear the sound of the surrendering forces of Chaos. She remembered calmly that his wife defected, becoming a member of Chaos. He killed her, with his own hands, and he turned cold. She however recalled the time when he killed the Chaos force of the Death Legion, and ignored their pleas for surrender. An eye for a eye... She thought.
"My men are not cut out for the Eldar. We already taken out the Orks on the northern continent, but the Eldar are stopping my forces. Besides, we had...Miss Halcyon, can you shut the door?"
She nodded in agreement, turning her body around to grab the door and gently close it shut.
"We've encountered something new, something that very much scares me to death. This new...alien race we've encountered are all on their own, far away in the Warp. They use plasma weapons, very weak mind you, but something they mass up and they're taken out two divisions ran by new cadets, third lieutenants, and I have to replace the units. The plan was for you there to continue the fight here with divisions and companies that you think can handle the fight on Oros IV, but then we take our best men through the Warp and fight these beasts. They're heretics, Angelos, they believe in 'Gods' rather than in our Holy Emperor."
Miss Andrea Halcyon was caught off-guard by that statement. A new race?! Hidden even from the Vindicare Temple Assassins?! This warranted her attention, even if it costed her life totally.
"A new race? Finally, for the glory of the Emperor, we shall strike it down!"
"Patience, Brother Ladioa. Rushing into battle unprepared is not going to win any battles." Angelos said, turning his head towards the young Ultramarines Commander. Then, softly, silently, he turned his head towards General Sturnn and his party.
"So, what is the finer details of this plan?"
Planet Sigma Alphanus I, In the Salusa Lambda System
Inner Colony
Currently under attack by the Covenant/Elite forces
Held by: Field Marshall Gunter Holksburg's 131st ODST Battalion
Human Ships: None
Covenant Ships: Twelve
The Covenant ships held their orbit tightly, paitenity waiting for the word to begin the last plans of the battle, to glass the planet to obivilion. The flagship for the battle group, Hope's Blade, was commanded by Ship Master Ona Eds'amee, with the Lesser Ship Master Elryon as the second in command. Currently, they received no word of the Brute's betryal, and the battle group remained still the 'Covenant'.
Truth is, the moral has been better and the cold shoulder between the Brutes and the Elites had calmed recently, and the Ship Master had detected no hate in the words 'Excellency' when he reported anything. Ona smiled to himself as he viewed the blockcage that his battle group had created.
"Excellency, there is a nearby warphole opening twenty thousand units away. Sensors showing that two ships are exiting. It could be a Slipspace opening, or something else. Either way, Excellency, I am considerably worried." Elryon reported, bowing as he stood in front of Ona.
Ona scratched his manibles, before he closed his eyes and breathed in.
"Send the Shield of Reconciliation in to investigate. It can handle any human vessel, and I need to concentrate on the battle group. But, Elyron, thank you for reporting this to me. You're on the way to becoming a fine Ship Master in the Covenant." Ona said, forming his mandibles into a smile as he viewed Elyron form a smile of his own.
"Thank you, Ship Master. I will do what you ask." He said, before turning around and heading towards the communication's station, occupied by Apprentice Rela Redo'amme.
Ona turned towards his hand-held screen on his chair, switching it so that the televiewer was now watching the Shield head towards the blue vortex in space. He knew that the humans would die, now, and that the valiant holding of the colony would be in vain.
The smile instantly disappeared when the first ship exited, the mere mass of it dwarfed the largest ship in his Battle Group. It had several large guns that dwarfed even the 'mack' guns that Humans operated. It fired a barrage, cutting down the shields of the Shield before the barrage cut through the armor and seperated the ship into three pieces, floating away as the ship rammed through, heading towards the battle group.
"Did you see that, Excellency?!" Senior Apprentice Anre And'amme yelled, looking in horror as he viewed it from his own screen. The large ship then was joined by another one, looking the same except it differed in color from the first's red and dark white. This one had black and gold upon it, and it appeared armored as the same.
"Fire the plasma, now!" Ona yelled, and looked back at his view screen, hoping that they would affect it. The blue plasma launched from all of the eleven ships, the blue orbs of death flying towards their objectives. They smacked against the ships, but then Ona's eyes widen as they only left a black score mark upon it.
"Send the ships back on the surface. The planet's heavy cloud cover will conceal our positions. We cannot do anything to the ship at the present moment."
The first ship that exited the Warp was the Raven's Claw, the flagship of the Blood Ravens Chapter's fleet, and it was the only that destroyed the weak Covenant ship. In the bridge of the massive behemoth stood Brother-Colonel Gabriel Angelos and Vindicare Assassin Andrea Halcyon, while the Techpriests and the Servitors worked at their stations, making sure the vessel performed at it's best.
"Look at the weaker ships, fleeing! Their plasma weapons did nothing to hurt our armor! Is this what you were talking about, Sturnn?"
Sturnn, who had just entered the bridge, walked up and stood behind Gabriel.
"Somewhat. These ships are weak, but their ground forces are a force to reckon with."
"For the Imperial Guard, yes. For your mighty Kashrin squads, maybe. For the Space Marines, no."
Sturnn nodded, taking his place near the door of the bridge as he stood tall, looking out towards the planet.
"Brother-Colonel, we have information that would please you."
"Tell me, Techpriest." He ordered, looking at the nearby Techpriest who spoke up from the sensor station.
"Our sensors report a large debris field where the enemy was located. One of the debris had, in Imperium Basic, the words Valley Forge. It was a human ship, not a Chaos, not anything else. A human ship!"
Gabriel leaned back in his chair, staring forward. He sighed, before he looked back at Assasin Halcyon.
"Miss Halcyon, since the death of my exeutive officer, I need a temporary XO that can perform ship duties. I am making you that temporary XO. Agreed?"
She finally spoke for the first time in his prescence, her voice soft and somewhat cool.
"I agree, Brother-Colonel."
"Warm up the 2nd Company, and send them down with Havickseeker's men and Ladioa's strike team."
"Yes, Brother-Colonel." Assassin Halcyon replied, moving to a salute, then dropping it and leaving the bridge to conduct Angelos' orders.
"The battle is about to begin...and I will avenge them all..."
"Get those blue blooded bastards!!" Sergeant Richard Guily yelled, pointing his finger towards the advancing file of Grunts coming up the slope. His troops, 1st Squad of 2nd Platoon, fired their BR55 'Battle' Rifles onto the running column, kicking up dirt and dust as the Grunts fell like weeds, where explosions and gunfire erupted everywhere.
The Grunt column broke, the fire from the Orbital Shock and Drop Troopers was enough to break their entire morale as they retreated. Corporal Wilkins, the M19 SSM Rocket Jocky of the squad, fired one round ahead of the retreating Grunts. It was caught in the middle of the retreating Grunts, causing them to fly everywhere, their bodies flaying.
Then, a squad of Brutes advancing, dressed in full war-gear armor advanced upon the Helljumpers, firing their red bolts of plasma against the hill as they tried to overrun the humans holding the hill. The Helljumpers returned fire, yelling and screaming as they fired at each other. Three Brutes survived as they jumped over the sandbag wall that protected the humans. Two men, PFC Joesph Davis and PFC Richard Halsey, opened fire upon them with their shotguns, the shells entering in their bodies and causing enough damage, along with the firing of the BR55s, to kill them.
The squad let out a cheer, before it abrubtly stopped as they viewed the ships, the Covenant ships, entering orbit.
"Will the battle ever end, Sarge?" Lance Corporal Edgar Williams asked, holding his battle rifle close to him.
"I dunno, son, but by the looks of it, we'll all be heros today."
TO BE CONTINUED.
