The Unknown Hero
Author's Note: It's been 2 long years since I wrote my first fan fiction story for the old Halo FFP, headed by Ryan. Well ever since its death, I've been writing stories that I wish to continue one day, but I think they've been deleted or something. But o wells, that was the past. Now I decided to write a story that has been cropping up in my mind a lot ever since I started playing Halo 2. Who were the people that were behind the scenes, the intelligence gatherers? Bungie had left that completely out of the story, and after reading the Fall of Reach, I found out that Eric Nylund had filled the missing gap for me, by creating ONI (Office of Naval Intelligence). I was intrigued by ONI, and I decided to write a fan fiction about ONI who is most likely involved in special weapons development and spying, like many national security agencies, like the CIA. The story is revolved around an ONI field officer that is sent on a mission, investigating a excavation team that ONI had lost contact with, ever since the Covenant invasion.
Now without further ado, I present to you...
Prologue The Day That Would Never Come
"Jack. I know what you're thinking. You think you're going down to save the marines in the area, but our mission orders don't permit that." Snake sighed as his commander relayed the mission details. It had been two hours even since ONI was put on high alert, due to the battle of the orbit. But on the ground, a few Capital ships have landed on Earth, where the marines and ODSTs were being mobilized for a counter attack. But Snake's mission would be different from the marines.
"Yeah... I know." A burly man in black fatigues looked out from the passenger cabin. He could see the small makeshift base he was 15 minutes ago, now a large flaming wreckage. Colonel Fox was right, he couldn't waste his times getting into fire fights. It would waste time and ammo. If there were any large fire fights, he would let the marines handle it. The only thing on his mind was the mission. "Just exactly where is the excavation site?"
"Two clicks north from your drop off. Don't expect that many marines in the area. Most were wiped out by Covenant drop teams. It is useful to find any wandering marines to help you on your mission, but you do not help them engage any large fire fights. Remember, time is of the essence, here." Colonel James Fox was a decorated veteran with a lot of missions under his belt, and many medals also. He wished he could be able to jump out of the Pelican and into the forest, but his fighting days were over, and were left to his last apprentice, Snake.
"I would be careful if I were you, Snake. Remember your last training exercise?" Fox continued the briefing.
"Yeah... it shouldn't even be called an exercise, maybe a warm up."
"Don't get cocky on me. The exercise was specially designed for the mission you're in now."
"Oh..."
"And when you land, find some cover immediately. If you landed without getting seen by Banshee patrols, we would've already pushed the Covenant back into space."
"Isn't that a nice thought, sir?" Snake smirked. But his eyes soon narrowed as he saw two Banshees come into view. Snake got out of the passenger seat and walk towards the door, and slammed his fist on the door to get the pilot's attention. "We got company! Two Banshees coming into firing range!"
"SHIT! Ok, we're almost to the LZ. Just hold tight and get on that gun!" The pilot yelled. Snake ran back to the gun turret that was latched onto the Pelican. He felt the safety pin and unlocked it. He then cocked the run and began to rotate his body, the turret with him. "Sir, we got some Banshee patrols. I need to lay down some fire in order to get to the LZ."
"Affirmative. Take out the Banshees and get to the LZ. Remember, the site is two clicks to the North. Don't try to get spotted. Remember, you're only armed with a silenced M6D. Don't worry, if you get out of rounds, there will be routine ammo sites that have been abandoned. Once you get to the excavation site, find out what happened to the excavation crew. Good luck, Snake." Snake heard the Colonel click off the COMM link and he began to watch as his crosshair lined up with one of the Banshee's wing. He closed his eyes and his muscles tensed as he held the trigger down.
"Take them down! We're almost to the LZ! And there is a rocket launcher in the compartments! Use it if they're getting to close." Snake watched as the turret rounds finally hit the left wing of one of the Banshees. He felt the vibrations go through his arms as the turret let out a hail of lead towards one of the Banshees. He saw fragments come off bit by bit, until the wing had become a small frame. He then rotated to the other wing and let the turret loose. But now the Banshees began to fire off torpedoes and plasma rounds.
"Hold on tight! We' already at the LZ! Jump off! We'll take care of the Banshees! Good luck!" Snake grunted in reply as he got off the turret and watched as one of the Banshees exploded into a blue flame and crashed into the trees below. Snake then walked towards the cargo door and looked down. He then nodded thumbs up to the pilot and jumped off into the LZ, a small clearing in the forest. As he was descending into the ground below, he could see that the remaining Banshee had caught up to the Pelican and had let loose a green torpedo straight through the cabin of the Pelican.
BOOOMM! Snake saw the Pelican explode from the inside out and crash into the ground below. This wasn't the first time Snake had seen death come so easily. On one of the outer colonies, Snake could one engagement, where a marine squad was retreating from a battle into a forest, but they were cut off by Spec Ops Elite. One by one, each of the marines fell to the ground, twitching as a plasma sword seared through their bodies. Snake now shook off the horrible memory and braced for impact as he landed.
THUDD! Snake hit the ground hard and rolled until he was upright. He quickly disengaged the parachute and the oxygen supply. He looked around, checking if there were any Covenant teams that were heading towards the downed Pelican. Snake then opened the COMM link and entered the frequency for Colonel Fox. "I'm on the ground now. My air support is gone, taken out by a Banshee."
"Sorry to hear that, Snake. They're deaths weren't in vain. Continue with the mission. Two clicks north." The Colonel again clicked off the COMM link, and Snake took out his combat knife and his pistol. He looked out through the forest and saw the smoldering Pelican. That would be his first objective, to find and salvage any weapons that would help him on his mission. Snake then stood up and began to move silently, his gun and combat knife out in front of him, if any wandering Jackals were moving towards the crash site.
Snake moved out of the clearing and into the forest. He began to relax slightly, before letting his muscles tense. He was a one-man army, in a Covenant filled area. He moved silently towards smoldering fire he saw in the distance. He figured the smoldering fire was the downed Pelican he had been on earlier.
A few minutes later, Snake was looking into the passenger cabin of the downed Pelican. He now began to calculate the time if any Covenant patrols were sent to the area, while he opened the compartments and saw that there were ammo rounds specifically for Snake's modified pistol. He took the rounds and put them in his pack. But another thing had caught his eye, a standard issue M-7 Submachine gun that was on the floor. He picked the SMG off the ground and checked if the gun was still intact. He loaded a clip into the magazine.
"Hmm... this could be useful later on," He now put the SMG into his combat pack and then took out some plastic explosives and plastered them onto the wall. But before he detonated the explosives, he broke open the cockpit door and saw the pilot's dog tags still on the pilot's mutilated body. He ripped off the dog tags and put them in his pocket. It didn't matter if this was a breach of mission orders; the pilot was in the same place as Snake was. Snake then lit the fuse on the plastic explosives and ran out of the Pelican and into the forest.
BOOOM! The Pelican exploded, its interior too mangled and hard to decipher, so that the Covenant won't find anything when they arrived here. But Snake would be long gone, moving towards his objective. "Commencing SILENT AVENGER now..."

Part 1: SILENT AVENGER
Chapter 1: First Contact
"Snake, we got some satellite photos of the surrounding area around the site." Ensign L.T Chalmers spoke through the COMM link while checking on Snake's position through a signal from Snake's COMM wire. It had been five minutes ever since the Banshee patrol had shot down ONI ECHO-630. Currently on the large map that illuminated in front of him, Snake was on top of a large hill, gaining recon on enemy positions and such.
"Thank L.T. Appreciate it."
"If you need recon on all of the Covenant positions, it's on the maps. And the exact location of last known marine locations."
"Wow, we didn't have this during BLOOMING FIRE."
"I'm not surprised. Operations under ONI jurisdiction get the best intelligence."
"I see..."
"Don't forget to make contact with survivors from the remaining marine positions. This might even ease tensions with the UNSC and our top brass."
"Ok..."
"And Snake?"
"Fox commends you on the destruction of the Pelican."
"Isn't that nice..." Snake clicked off the COMM link and sighed. For the last fifteen minutes, Snake had been watching a Covenant patrol move around the area, apparently unused to Earth's forests. That gave Snake an upper advantage, since Snake had been trained in forest and woodland combat and survival camps. And Snake smiled, the Covenant had already made their first mistake.
Out of the corner of his eyes, Snake had noticed a lone marine sniper had moved into the bushes, at most 70 meters away from the Covenant patrol team. The Covenant's backs were turned, and as Snake predicted, the sniper would take his chances.
"Hmm..." Snake watched through the binoculars as the marine had poked the standard UNSC S2 AM through the bush. The sniper was an amateur, Snake noticed. The S2 AM leaves a trail of gas from its barrel whenever a bullet is fired. But if he was able to take out all of them before they find out the sniper's position from the trail the bullet leaves. Being unable to help due to mission orders, Snake would watch the engagement, or move on, while the marine picks off the patrol one by one. He decided to watch the amateur sniper and take out the remaining Covenant when he moved through the area.
CRACK! Snake watched as the lone marine let off a round into the main leader of the patrol team, a large Elite. The first bullet had broken the shield barrier, but the second round had left a three inch hole through its head. The lifeless body of the Elite slumped to the ground, purple blood oozing from the fatal wound. The patrol now tried to follow the bullet trails, but it had disappeared in a few mere seconds.
But the patrol now began to run for cover behind the trees and rocks that littered the path. But the marine had wasted two grunts before reloading. Now the remaining Covenant had found the position and began firing on the sniper. But the sniper wouldn't give up easily, Snake smiled. The sniper had move a few yards back from the bush, and behind a rock. CRACK! CRACK! After a few more head shots, the sniper had finished off the Covenant patrol, with a few more rounds than he hoped for. It was like as his instructors had shown him. Take out the Elite and the rest will fall easily. The marine stood up triumphantly and walked towards his fallen foes. He kicked each of them to see if they were dead or not. As he walked over to the body of the dead Elite, the marine felt something like a sword go through his chest. He felt his chest and saw the blood dripping out from the wound. The marine soon fell on the ground, eyes open, oblivious to who had killed him.
Snake watched the marine fall to the ground, killed by an Covenant sniper that was hiding in the distance. Probably a Elite,Snake thought as he checked his pistol. He knew that he couldn't take out a Covenant sniper with just a pistol. If it was an Elite, Snake would have to take out the shields and then aim for the head, which was unlikely with just the pistol. He had to find a sniper rifle. Snake then opened the frequency for Colonel Fox, his body prone in the grass, to avoid detection.
"Snake?"
"Colonel. There's a Covenant sniper in the area. I don't have any sniper rifle with me. Only the M6d-"
"And the SMG? Yes, we know. This is the only way towards the site."
"I know that Colonel. Is there any abandoned armories around here?"
"Yeah, there is one Snake. In fact, it's close to your position. There should be a cave somewhere east of your position."
"Alright. Any resistance along the way?"
"No... from reports, there should be some grunts and jackals moving around the area."
"Alright, I'm moving out." Snake now began to crawl down the hill, hoping that the Elite didn't see the grass bend when Snake moved past it. Luckily, the Covenant sniper hadn't noticed Snake's departure from the battlefield. The area of forest in between the Uganda and Kenyan border has been called by locals, the Forest of Secrets. The COMM link beeped again. Snake stopped and dropped to one knee. "Yes?"
"Change your black fatigues, Snake. Even though the armory is lightly guarded, you won't be noticed if you wear the 'Tiger Stripes' outfit."
"Uh huh..."
"Black sticks out more in a forest, Snake."
"Tell me about it..." Snake began to open the combat backpack and began to change into his tiger stripes outfit. The tiger stripes outfit, hence the name had the color of light green, striped green, and dark green in order to blend into any forest setting. Snake smiled as he finished putting the standard ONI operations BDU. He felt comfortable back in tiger stripes camouflage. It had reminded him of Operation GREEN LANTERN...
"Alright, get ready. We're almost at the landing zone." Snake heard his squad leader. It was his second operation under 'NavySpecWar' jurisdiction. Other than his first operation, which taking took place on a desert colony, GREEN LATERN would take place on the Planet Tyros, a planet that is mostly filled with forests and rivers. A perfect place to train, Snake thought. The reason why his squad, the 'Silent Ninjas' had been sent was to investigate a lost signal on a UNSC training base. But in truth, it was an ONI secret weapons facility. "All right, Silent Ninjas. This is your stop here."
"Alright, men! Let's move!" Squad leader Antonio Garcia began to move forward, his squad following him. Instead of regular UNSC fatigues, the squads involved in these operations were given 'Tiger' fatigues in order to blend in with Tyros's forests and such. Snake smiled at the thought, a green tiger. The 'Silent Ninjas' was consisted of 6 men. Four of them were elite marines, and the other two were Helljumpers. All were trained in jungle and woodland warfare, which made them the perfect team of choice for GREEN LANTERN.
"Sir, I see contact. It looks like a Covenant dropship sir." Snake heard one of the ODSTs inform Garcia. Garcia merely nodded and held out the sign to halt.
"Alright, we're almost to ALPHA point. I want weapons hold until we find out the number of bastards in the area. And Snake and Huynh?"
"Yes sir?" Snake addressed his squad leader.
"I want you and Huynh to get close, undetected and find out their numbers. The rest of us won't be far off. Get moving."
"Sir, yes, sir!" Snake and Huynh, a burly Vietnamese man from Reach moved off from the squad and into the forest, away from the clearing...
"Alright, I'm just outside the armory." Snake stepped out in the clearing and watched the Covenant guards through his binoculars. There were at most three stationary guns, two Elites standing outside, four of five grunts patrolling the area, and six Jackals. So much for minimal security, Snake thought as he closed the binoculars and stood behind the tree.
"Ok. Looking from these old specs from blueprints, there should be a back door into the armory. Look for one around the back of the armory, probably hidden by grass. The tiger stripes camo is pretty good in this situation? First time?"
"Not exactly..."
"Oh... ok. Good luck."
"Thanks." Snake surveyed the armory. From the mission maps, this armory, ARMORY 402 had been created when the ONI excavation had arrived. ARMORY 402 was situated below a large cliff that gave anyone who had taken control of the hill a large advantage of seeing everything in a four mile radius. Below the cliff was a small clearing with the armory in the center of it. That was Snake's objective so far, to retrieve a sniper rifle and then go back to the forest and take out the Elite sniper, in order to get to the crash site.
"Alright... here goes nothing... "

Chapter Two // Daylight Battle
Jack Pliskin, Codenamed Snake. Joined the Marines at the age of seventeen, first served under the command of Vice Admiral Straughberg on the colony Rhevan Four, which had been glassed by the Covenant on the year 2534. Then moved into 'NavySpecWar' unit 'Silent Ninjas', participating in DERELICT, GREEN LANTERN, SIDEWINDER, and MONGOOSE. Jack Pliskin is currently MIA during Operation MONGOOSE. Well, this is how the spy world was really like for experienced field officers, Colonel James Green thought. He closed the manila folder and folded his hands together. An hour had passed ever since the operation had begun and the Colonel and a few others had arrived from the Hive's main command center into one of ONI's operation centers.
"Pretty interesting background, when did you find him?" Green inquired, unfolding his hands and tapping the manila folder.
"I recruited him during DERELICT. My ship got shot down over the Covenant facility. His squad got me out of there, including Vice Admiral Ramirez. Did a mighty fine job, too." Fox turned around, addressing the top brass that were residing in his operations room.
"Are you sure he's capable of carrying out this mission? We should have sent out some of the experi-" James stopped, already knowing he had almost cost himself his security access. He turned to see Admiral Jones glare at him. "Are you sure your boy is capable of a mission like this?"
"Colonel, this man is probably able to rival some of your SPARTAN Is in any engagement. I'm confident he can complete this mission."
***
"So this is the Marine's standard SRS99C?" Jack Pliskin thought, looking into the barrel of the SRS99C Standard UNSC Sniper Rifle. The rifle needed much improvement, Snake thought as he inspected the gun entirely. Throughout his years in the Marines, he had only been assigned the S2 Sniper Rifle, in cases which he had to operate in the dark. The only difference between the S2 and the standard rifle were that the S2 was designed for low light amplifications for Special Ops Missions and such. But the firing power of both was the same, using the 14.5x114mm APFSDS rounds, capable of penetrating any armor.
The ONI operative then walked towards the ammo rack besides the rifles and grabbed six cartridges of the anti-armor rounds and ten boxes of Cal 5x23mm for the SMG also. He quickly stashed them into the ammo pouch of his fatigues. He turned around, looking at the C-12 explosives that lay on the table across from him. He could possibly use some of the explosives, since he had used all of his explosives on the Pelican earlier. He also grabbed a small block of C-12 and remote detonating charges, and began to crawl out of the small duct he entered through.
Snake crawled out of the small ventilation shaft and kneeled on one knee, watching the Covenant that were still patrolling the exterior of the armory. He then heard the continuous beeping of the COM link. Snake soon heard Colonel Fox's voice on the COM link, "Snake, we got some new shots from the satellite above. Seems like the area you have to go back to is now filled with Spec Ops Covenant!"
"What?!" Snake froze at hearing the ill news. If that was the fastest way towards the cave, he would have to go all the way around. Time was of the essence and he couldn't waste any moments. "What do you plan to do?"
"Well, the brass have let us take control of a nearby UNSC airfield a good ways from here. I decided for an airs strike on the Spec Ops contingent." Fox looked down on the screen and looked on Snake's signal. He then opened another screen below, and ordered for a blow up. It was UNSC DAGGER Base, one of the few military airfields that hadn't been destroyed when the Covenant broke through the orbital defenses. "I want you to plant a strobe there."
"I did crazy things in my life, but not things as crazy as this." Snake paused, thinking over what the Colonel said. "You're telling me to move back towards the SNIPER area full of Spec Ops forces and plant a strobe?"
"Exactly. But don't worry, you'll be assisted by an ODST team that is being ferried from our new airfield towards your position. Armory 402 has a small guard there, right? Take the guards out and hold out the area until the ODST team is on the ground. Then you will move towards SNIPER and plant the strobe." Fox turned around, looking at Colonel Green, who nodded in return. The new mission orders were already given the go.
"Ok, ETA?" Snake was already placing his weapons on the ground.
"Let's see, seven minutes tops. These are the newest prototypes of the Pelican, and I heard they've been given faster engines, so I guess you'll meet the ODST team in no time. Contact me when you're finished with the guards. Out." The Colonel turned off the COM link and looked around the room. He saw the top brass in the room, Admiral Jones start a conversation with the rest of the brass in the circular table. It didn't matter to him, Fox thought. He had to get Snake alive and well out before the brass decides to do something drastic.
"Alright. Out." Snake turned off the COM link. Seven minutes was enough time for him to take out the guards and to make a small defense. Well, I gotta get started, he thought as he checked his arsenal. So far he had the M6D, Combat Knife, some C-12, fragmentation grenades, an SRS99C, and a SMG. He picked up his weapons and placed the SMG, and the knife on his belt. He then slung the SRS99C over his back. He made sure the rifle was securely placed on his back.
Snake held the pistol in one hand and a grenade in the other. He placed himself against the wall of the armory, and peeked around the corner. A plan began to formulate in his head. First thing he had to do was to take out the Grunts that were using the plasma turrets. It would take one shot to take out the Grunts easily, but then there were the two Elites. The grenade would be useful for taking out the Elites, or at least lowering down the shields and making it an easy kill. Then he would wipe out the Jackals that had started a small fire and were all huddled around the fire by a well placed grenade.
"Showtime..." The NavySpecWar veteran put the grenade back into the combat pouch and went on one knee, steadying his aim. He looked towards the first plasma turret and fired the first round. He saw the shot register as a first kill and fired off his second round on the second turret. Again another kill as the orange Grunt fall to ground, blue blood staining the ground, as Snake took the fragmentation grenade and hurled it towards the Elites, who had finally found his position. But the Elites never got a shot off as the grenade landed at their feet. BOOM!
Four kills so far,Snake thought as he saw the Elites rise into the air and land back on the ground motionless. The Jackals that were huddling around the small fire now had found Jack. The Jackals and the last Grunt on the plasma turret began to return fire, while Jack jumped out of the way into the tall grass along the wall. He could see the plasma rounds hit the undergrowth in front of him. After a few seconds of straight firing, he could hear the plasma guns overheating. It was his chance to take the remaining Covenant out. Snake slid around the wall and turned around, facing the Covenant. He fired two rounds into the Grunt that was using the turret. He saw the Grunt fall dead beside the turret. Now the Jackals had begun firing again on Snake. In a split second, Snake then threw his second grenade towards the Jackals, watching it land just in front of three Jackals. He watched the three bodies fly and began to run forward, his pistol in hand and leveled, firing.
The remaining Jackals kept firing back, missing Snake by a few centimeters each time. Now the ONI field officer was in Close Combat Range. He fired off one more round through the small opening in the nearest Jackal's shield. The Jackal jumped back and now Snake lunged forward, taking out his knife in one hand and slashed the Jackal's throat. He then turned to the other two, now running, their backs open. Snake quickly reloaded the clip and let off two rounds each into of the Jackals. They fell to the ground, the Plasma shields dissipating when the Jackals fell to the ground. Snake sighed and holstered the M6D and wiping the purple blood off his Combat Knife. He then put the knife back into his sheath and contacted the Colonel.
"Colonel, I took out the guards." Snake began.
"Ok, Snake. The Pelican is coming right now to your position. And they got a few tailing after them." The Colonel informed Snake. "Look, if the Pelican doesn't arrive after four minutes, get out of there and continue on with your mission. Take the long way around if you have to get to the site."
"Sir?"
"Continue with the mission, Snake..." ***
"This is ECHO 120! I got some Banshees tailing me!" Lieutenant Ace Valentine yelled as his ship narrowly avoided a green plasma torpedo. It had been two minutes ever since he flew into no man's land and got tailed by a Banshee squadron. Ace turned around and checked to see that his cargo was alright. The cargo was in fact, an elite ODST team that had been stationed at DAGGER base, or so he was informed. It didn't matter. It was his orders to get the ODST team at the LZ. The ODSTs were already checking their weapons and ready to jump out if the Pelican was going down. "HEY! YOU GUYS! THERE'S A M19 IN THE CONTAINER. I NEED YOU TO TAK THESE GUYS OFF MY TAIL!"
"Alright, Jones! Get the M19 and take out the Banshees from here. Carlson! Get on that turret! The rest of us will hold on tight! ALRIGHT, BOYS?!" Lieutenant Tom Diego yelled, pointing at two of his squad mates. He could see the two nod in return and began to follow their orders. It could've been easier if his team had been dropped off in drop pods from a UNSC ship or something, but a Pelican was too slow for an Helljumper, Diego thought. He turned towards Sergeant Jones, who kneeled on one knee and fired off a rocket. The rocket was locked onto the Banshees that were accelerating towards the Pelicans from a mile away.
"Come on baby..." Diego could hear Jones murmur as he saw one of the Banshees break off from the four fighter squadron and try to evade the lone rocket by performing barrel rolls descending towards the tree tops. But Jones quickly locked onto the Banshee near the tree tops and let another rocket loose. By the time the second rocket slammed into Banshee's hull, the first one had slammed into the left side of the Banshee, completely decapitating its left wing. "ONE DOWN SIR!"
"Sir, requesting permission to take out a Banshee with my rifle, sir!" Diego turned around and saw his marksman, Sergeant A.J Jackson. He nodded and saw A.J also kneel on one knee next to Jones and Carlson, who now began to fire tracers and saw that they had hit one of the Banshee squadron. The cargo area of the ship was filled with the sound of the machine gun turret firing off rounds. CRACK! Diego took out his binoculars and saw that his marksman had shot through one of the Banshee's hull. The Banshee soon began to decelerate and Diego watched as the Covenant fighter slammed into the trees below.
"We're almost there! ETA 2 MINUTES!" Ace yelled over the loud noise. Diego turned his head around and nodded and returned to watching three of h is men take down a squad of Banshees. He smiled as he saw one of the remaining two finally break down after a hail of lead break through the hull and into the cockpit, where the Elite pilot lay head first. The Banshee soon crashed into trees, leaving a burning wreckage. The last Banshee now fired off its last torpedo, but it was to no avail. Jones had fired a rocket and the ODST team watch as the last Banshee exploded in the air. "Hey... NICE! YOU GUYS DID IT! We're at the LZ right now. Going down."
***
Snake looked up in the air and saw the Pelican come a few feet off the ground. He was hiding in the undergrowth next to the landing zone and watched as the ODSTs jumped out of the cargo room and onto the ground. As each ODST jumped out, they suddenly went on one knee, weapons already shouldered and the safety off. Jack Pliskin smiled as the last ODST get out and wave the Pelican off. He looked around, checking the area. It was time for him to meet with the ODST team the top brass had also sent. He stood up, his M6D in one and his knife in the other. "Are you Helljumpers?"
"You must be the guy the brass sent in alone. I'm not surprised that you survived." Diego motioned towards the corpses that were lying on the ground. He walked towards one of the Jackals and saw the slit throat. He chuckled and walked back towards Snake, extending a hand. "Tom Diego, ODST Team Hell Hawks."
"Snake. Do you have the flares?" Snake asked, pretending as if the lieutenant had never extended his hand in the first place.
"Yes, we have the strobes. We're ready to move out." Diego replied, throwing a strobe light towards Snake. "We all carry one."
"Fine with me, lets move." Snake didn't like this one bit. The brass should've just sent a Pelican drop pod full of equipment. Something was wrong, and he had to find out in order to accomplish this mission...
