The Best Marines: The Sneak Attack
Date: 19 March 2005, 2:11 AM
"Baker," I called. "Move up!" We were stuck behind enemy lines. Five minutes ago, we were in a Pelican flying to a mountainside that overlooked the Covenant base. We had been sent to lighten the defenses before the main attack. We had managed to save all of the equipment: Four Thermal Tank-Buster C-9 Explosives, 1800 Armor-piercing rounds for our MA5B Assualt Rifles, 12 Frag Grenades, and 2 Sniper Rifles. We were the only ones that made it off of the Pelican. All that was left was three burnt corpses and plasma charred metal. "Lieutenant," Baker called to me. "I found the base!" Jones and I ran forward to where Baker was standing. A large, grey base stood before us. I pulled out my binocs and gazed at the huge Covenant force before us. An anti-air gun rested in the center of a field that was between us and the base. That was a problem. The assault whould rely on air support. Two Phantoms and three Wraiths sat on the landing pads outside of the base. I returned my binocs to my pocket, and drew my Sniper. Jones did the same. Of the three of us, Jones was the best at long range. Baker ruled the explosives and I prefered my Assault Rifle. "We need that AA gun down, now," I said. Baker nodded. He grabbed one of the explosives and climbed down the small cliff. He slowly made his way toward the tower. The Covenant were slipping. Only a fool would leave a position like that unguarded. Baker crawled under the tower that the gun was on. He placed the C-9 and activated it. He made his way back. He climbed up the cliff and hit a button. The AA gun blew apart with a loud BOOM. Grunts started running in circles, trying to figure out what going on. Jones and I opened fire, killing one with each shot. Baker pulled out a Rocket Laucher he had on his back. He looked through the scope and fired both rockets. I followed the rockets with my scope and saw them collide with two of the Wraiths, demolishing them. He loaded his third and last rocket and fired, destroying the third Wraith. I gave Baker a thumbs up and turned back as Jones fired four more shots. I looked at the directing his shots went. A hundred Covenant troops charged at us. The rockets must have givin away our position. "Here," I handed Baker a large round red grenade. He loaded it into the Rocket Launcher and fired into the center of the charging aliens. It exploded and killed five Covenant. A large, red cloud of smoke lifted up from the grenade. In five minutes, the UNSC Marines would be attacking the Covenant and getting us out of here. Jones had fired 12 more shots by now and joined him. I aimed a fired. The bullet flew through three Grunts and stopped in a Jackle. The Covenant were firing now but they were way off. Suddenly, a purple needle round from a needler slammed into Baker. He stood there for minuted staring at it. The needle exploded in a purple puff of smoke and Baker fell over and down the small cliffside. "NO!" I shouted. "BAKER!" I slid down the cliffside and grabbed Baker. I threw him over my shoulders and climbed back up. I sat Baker down and opened a MedKit. I pulled out the biofoam and began to work on Baker. I looked over my shoulder and saw a thousand streaks of plasma fill the sky. Only the UNSC arriving now could save us. In the distance, I heard the sound of engines roaring. All we had to do was stay alive. But with Baker down, it was going to be lot harder. One of the Phantoms took off from the landing pad. It flew over us, firing it's plasma cannons. One of the beams flew past me, tearing my armor open. I finished with the biofoam and tied a bandage around him, sealing the wound. I aimed my sniper at the aproaching Covenant and fired. Four Elites fell, purple-black blood flying. The Phantom made another pass over us and fired. Plasma streaked down at us and turned the ground around us into glass. I drew my Assault Rifle and fired at the nearest plasma cannon. I loaded two clips into the cannon, and it finaly fell from the rotating swivle that held it in place. Suddenly, a hail of bullets slammed into the Phantom. It fell and crashed on top of the Covenant force. A Pelican flew overhead. My team was going to make it.
The Best Marines: Special Operations

The Pelican roared over our heads. Two more flew by, then another five, and seven more. They split up, seven landing on the Covenants left flank, eight on their right. Jones kept firing sniper rounds, slowly weakening the Covenant force. My Com buzzed, and I quickly answered it.
"Lieutenant!" Colonel Klamb called over the Com. "Get to our position ASAP!"
"Roger," I replied. "We're on our way." I turned to Jones. "Here, take Baker. Run full sprint to Colonel Klamb's Pelican. I'll cover you."
"Yes, sir."
He lifted Baker onto his shoulders and ran. He climbed down the cliff edge, with me on his tail. An Elite ran towards him and took aim. Jones drew his pistol and fired a full clip into the Elite, purple blood flying. The Elite fell, and we moved on. Plasma flew past us, missing by mere centimeters. I turned and fired a clip-worth of bullets into the Covenant group. Grunts and Jackals fell under the fire. I turned and sprinted to catch up with Jones, who had reached the Colonel's Pelican. I ran up seconds later, out of breath. The Colonel greeted me and began to get on to our next objective.
"You and your team need to infiltrate the Covenant base," he stopped talking and fired his rifle, killing a Jackal. "Then you are to place this tactical building crusher bomb." He handed the small, flat piece of metal to me. "With the building destroyed, we will have pushed the Covenant into a contained area. At that point, we will have finished off this force here." We watched as three bombers flew overhead and dropped their payloads on the opposite flank of the enemy.
Marines moved forward, forcing the enemy into the center of the battlefield. "Jones!" I ordered. "Come on. We're moving out." Jones grabbed some ammo for his sniper and pistol, and followed me as I ran around the enemy, and slipped inside. Jones was right behind me when we ran into three Elites. They lifted their Plasma Rifles and took aim. Jones fired, killing one. I fired too, killing another. A hot plasma bolt hit me, burning through my armor and stinging my skin. The last Elite died under a hail of bullets.
"Move on," I said. We walked more cautiously through the halls of the base finally comming up on the central command room. There was just one problem. Two Hunters and three Elites stood in the room. They hadn't seen us yet, but it just a matter of minutes. Jones aimed his rifle at the nearest Hunter's orange back. I prepaired to toss a Frag Grenade into the room. I tossed the Grenade. Jones fired half a second later. The Hunter fell over dead, and two of the Elites blew apart. I aimed and fired my Assault Rifle at the last Elite, and Jones fired the last three rounds in his clip at the other Hunter. The Elite died, but the Hunter had blocked the shots with it's shield. It's fuel rod cannon charged and a large green blast flew past us, missing by an inch. Jones and I fired our weapons as fast as we could, hoping to get in a lucky shot.
The Hunter charged at us and swung its shield, hitting me and sending me flying three feet before hitting the wall. I watched through blurry vision as Jones fired two rounds, both hitting the Hunter in the soft, orange skin on its side. As the Hunter fell, I passed out. I woke up minutes later to see Jones standing next to me, trying to wake me up.
"Jones," I said. "I'm awake." I looked down to my side and barked, "Where's the bomb!?"
"I just armed it," Jones said. We have about two minutes to get out of here."
"Alright," I said. "Take point. I'll be right behind you." I stood up and grabbed my rifle. My head hurt, but that was a good thing. It would keep me awake. I ran behind Jones through the gray hallways, finally emerging out of the building. Jones and I flipped into the air and hit the ground, hard. I looked behind us to see the building blow apart, chunks of stone flying everywhere. An Elite walked up to us and I reached for my rifle-- but it was gone. I saw it twenty meters away, too far to reach before I was a pile of ashes. Jones had lost his weapons, too. The Elite aimed at my head. Jones jumped to his feet and charged at the Elite. The red colored warrior turned and fired ten plasma shots at Jones, who fell to the ground, smoke rising from his chest. A Phantom flew overhead and the Elite picked me up. He carried me over to the Phantom and we rose into it. The purple chamber inside the Phantom was dark, and the Elite hit me across the face. Everything went black as I hit the ground.
The Best Marines: Prison Break
Date: 4 February 2006, 3:13 am
I woke up to a pain in my head. The room was purple, and I recognized it as the Phantoms troop hold that I was in before I blacked out. I saw an Elite walk through the hatch to the cockpit. I instinctivly reached for my Assault Rifle, but it wasn't there.
I stood up and quietly walked up to the hatch. Suddenly, it flew open and the Elite kicked me to the ground. The Split-face muttered something in his own language, and I stood up again. As I raised my fists to a defensive position, I wondered what I was getting myself into.
The Elite charged me, and I jumped out of the way. He turned around, and an Energy Sword emerged from his hand. He jumped at me, and I rolled out of the way. The Elite jumped again, and kicked me to the floor. I stood up, but decided to back down. The Elite delivered a high kick to my face, and I fell to the floor, passed out.
I woke up again, this time in a prison cell. Another marine was in there with me. "Hey," I said. "How are we going to get out of here?"
"We're not," the Marine, a Private First Class, said. "The Covenant have this whole ship patrolled, and the UNSC isn't going to send any ships to rescue two of us. And before you ask, the other prisoners are dead."
I stood up and looked out the force field cell door. Two Elites that I could see, maybe more, patrolled the room. The ship shook, and I found myself tossed to the floor as three other violent shakes occured. "What was that?" I asked quickly.
"Those were rockets from a UNSC craft," the marine said. "They might be coming for us after all."
'Or just trying to destroy the ship,' I thought. Twenty more rockets hit, and the Covenant ship shook so violently that I flew into the ceiling and hit the ground hard. Another rocket hit, and the Covenant ships sheild must be down, because the ship shook even worse.
Then, the Elites walked up to the cell and looked at us. Suddenly, the floor beneath the Elites ripped open, and a MAC round tore through, tearing the Elites into a thousand pieces and causing the force field to flash on and off. 'Good thing the round missed our cell,' I thought. "Come on, Private. We're getting out of here."
I grabbed a hidden signal beacon I had in my boot, and through it out of the force field into the room outside, just past the hole. I moved to get a better angle at the battle outside. Three Longswords chased a Seraph, and shot it down. A Pelican flew by, followed by seven Seraphs, in turn followed by five Longswords.
Then, the Pelican turned around, and shot up into the hole, coming up next to our cell. One of Seraphs followed, but slammed into the ceiling and blew apart. The Pelican fired a few quick rounds, and the force field dissapeared. The marine and I ran out, and were amazed at the compression the ship still had, even with the hole in its side.
We ran to the Pelican and climbed in. The Pelican doors shut and the Marine and I took a deep breath that we had been holding the whole run. I looked around. Baker and Jones sat, along with two other marines. "Here," Jones said. "Take this."
He handed me and the marine two new rifles, and not my trusty MA5B Assault Rifle either. "The guys at command are calling it a Battle Rifle," Baker said. "It fires pretty well, even if only three round bursts." I frowned. Three round bursts tend to lead to death in a close quarters firefight. "Don't worry, boss," Baker spoke up. "They're also issuing these Submachine Guns. Full auto."
The Pelican flew back to the UNSC ship. We climbed out, and saw through a viewscreen the battle unfolding. A single Covenant ship, the one we just left, was making a last, desperate charge at the three Human ships. Our ships fired their MAC Cannons, and the Covenant ship blew apart. It was victory, but only a small one as the war was far from over.
"Marines!" the Colonel said as he walked up. "Get some more ammo, a little bit of food, and get back on that Pelican! You can sleep on the way!" I ran off towards the cafeteria to grab some much needed food. Looks like we're doomed to fight without rest for the rest of our lives.
