Stories of Coffin Company and the Hassien III Campaign by Darknight101

Coffin Company Prt.1
Date: 4 July 2006, 2:04 am
[Indent]Private James Rudan sat in the seating compartment of the pelican. He was completely prepared for this. He was the one who had the highest scores in C Company on the simulator. But if he was so prepared, then why did he find himself gripping his battle rifle harder?
[Indent]Apparently Captain Foster had seen the way he looked. Or maybe it was the beads of sweat on his forehead. He was now walking towards James.
[Indent]"Don't worry kid, your going to love combat" the Cpt. said.
[Indent]"Well sir then why do you and the other TRUE soldiers describe combat as a true joy" said James with sarcasm. Foster was one of the only true experienced soldiers. Coffin Company was a newly formed company. Thank God that someone in brass thought of giving the Company some experienced men, though the new soldiers did get suspicious of all the men's stories.
[Indent]"Believe me kid stick to your training and you'll be all right" said Foster while moving back to his seat.
[Indent]"Thirty minutes until we reached the DZ." the pilot yelled from the cockpit over the roar of the engines.
[Indent] James heard the pilot whispering something to the co-pilot "Don't mention to them that one eighth of the company was already shot down by AA fire."
[Indent]The pelican began to shake. "Don't worry people it's just some minor turbulence caused by the AA guns on the surface. But don't worry about it we're too far up for them to do much damage" The pilot said as if trying to reassure them.
[Indent]"Just keep this bird in the air where she's still some use to us" the Cpt. yelled. All the pilot did was nod.
[Indent]Alex was about to ask a question but stopped. He looked as if he was debating whether or not to ask whatever he wanted too. Finally he made up his mind.
[Indent]"Hey, what planet are we dieing on anyway?" Alex said
[Indent]The sergeant gave him a funny look "You me they didn't tell you on the Relic.
[Indent]"No sarge they didn't"
[Indent]Then Cpt. Foster cut in "The planet Hassien III, as of three weeks ago, was invaded by the dreaded Covenant menace. And the brave and fearless marines must go in and liberate the planet from the evil alien scum". He was smiling after quoting the propaganda that was played on the Relic 's radio. It was supposedly to boost are moral but the men of the Company only laughed at it.
[Indent]"Thank you, sir" said Alex laughing.
[Indent]Then Alex leaned over to him "Hey man, how do you fell about finally going into combat. I mean we've been training on the simulator for over two years. I am so psyched about this"
[Indent]"Yeah im fringing great. Hey why don't you go over to you side of the pelican and leave me alone so I can think for a minute" said James in an angry tone.
[Indent]"Hey man no need to get mad" said Alex retreating to his seat.
[Indent]Finally he could think in peace. Why did he sign up for the marines? It was complete suicide, especially when the enemies we're fighting are the Covenant. His parents had told him that but there was just something. Maybe he was looking for action, maybe it was for glory, and maybe he had to prove something to himself.
[Indent]Or maybe he was hoping to see the Spartan that had saved him on his own planet before it got iced. He didn't remember the numbers exactly but he knew the digits were 7, 1, and 1. He knew that it was futile but he had to see him again, or die trying.
[Indent]"Five minutes" the pilot yelled from the cockpit.
[Indent]The turbulence increased as the AA fire grew. James saw the co-pilot whispering to the main pilot. "Sir fifty men in this God forsaken company were already killed in pelicans and we could be next sir, I say we scrap the mission and head on back to the ship."
[Indent]"I'll pretend that I didn't hear any of that soldier" said the pilot.
[Indent]Then the co-pilot started to cry. Whether it was because of his life, our lives, or his ship James would never know.
[Indent]I can do this, James thought to himself, I can do it on the simulator and I will do it now.
[Indent]"Three minutes until we drop! Final weapons check!" Shouted the pilot.
[Indent]James started to check his battle rifle. His scope was working, the magazine was full, and the barrel was clean. He looked across the aisle to d=see a Heavy trooper loading his rockets into his rocket launcher. He turned his head to the left to see a sniper smashing a clip into his rifle. He looked at Alex he was just staring at his medical kit with a standard issue pistol.
[Indent]Two minutes!"
[Indent]Somewhere in the pelican a trooper like him was praying.
[Indent]"Everybody bow your heads and be quiet and start praying" said Cpt. Foster
[Indent]The shuddering in the pelican continued to grow. It was as if every gun on this plant was aimed right at the pelican. The co-pilot was getting nervous and making stupid mistakes.
[Indent]"Put down the landing gear! Turn on the rear landing engines to soften their landing! Get your hand of that door button they rent dropping yet! Thirty seconds!" yelled the pilot from the cockpit.
[Indent]The seatbelts unbuckled and Cpt. Foster stood up in the doorway.
[Indent]"Okay men listen up! Five kilometers east of here there is a command base that is held by the covenant. We built a trench on the perimeter of the base and the 506th and the 504th regiments are to hold the line and strategize a recapture operation! Remember your training and you will get through this alive."
[Indent]The door dropped just as he finished up his speech "Follow me marines, go, go, go!!!
[Indent]Then James knew he was ready for whatever this mission has to offer.

Alex Melnichov jumped from the pelican with a dull thud. Captain Foster was right in front of him. He pointed towards a huge rock about five meters away. The squad started to double-time it when all of a sudden they were under fire from shades in every direction but their own.
They reached the rock and looked back to see a seraph crash into the pelican they just came from. Both were destroyed but at least the seraph was in only a thousand pieces.
The Captain did a head count and said "We're missing one".
Everyone looked back to see the sear gent ducking behind a smaller rock.
"Shit! Help me sir!" yelled the sergeant, his voice filled with terror.
"Come on soldier get on your feet and run! You can make it!" yelled the Captain back.
"Okay sir" The marine started to run and he was one fourth the way there when the incoming fire started.
"Covering fire "Captain Foster yelled "Everyone cover your fellow soldier dammit!"
Immediately everyone behind the rock started to pour out bullets into the mass of Covenant. The soldier was now half way there when Alex threw a grenade next to a shade turret. When it exploded the turret tipped over, crushing the grunt driver.
The soldier was more than three fourths the way to the rock when a shade hit him with a plasma bolt. He paused right there in the middle of the kill zone and turned to see who had hit him.
"Keep moving!" Captain Foster yelled but the soldier seemed to be frozen. Then a beam particle hit him in the left leg and he fell to the ground. He reached out to the men behind the rock who were caught up in first combat. Desperately trying to remember what they had learned during those two years of training. Alex was only able to stare for moments until being brought back into reality. He was a medic and that soldier was injured.
"Jesus Christ we've been on this planet for less then five minutes and already someone's wounded" said Alex wondering what to do. He made up his mind and began to run to the injured man.
When he reached him, the soldier was still reaching out, but now it was to Alex only. While hell broke lose in the background and fire was everywhere. Alex was focused only on healing the injured man. He couldn't do it out in the open, anyone could tell him that. So Alex grabbed the sergeant's collar and started to drag him behind the cover.
"Good work soldier, now start working on him" said Captain Foster.
"Sir I can only patch him up a little bit, he need to get to a hospital and quick" said Alex ripping the guys shirt open to put sulfa powder on his burn. "The sulfa powder should help stop his bleeding, as for the leg it didn't hurt him that bad. The sniper must have been far away.
"Fix him up the best you can. There's a medical hospital around that blockade we set up" said Captain Foster.
"D-d-don't l-let me die" said the wounded soldier while he reached his hand out.
Alex grabbed the wounded soldiers hand and squeezed. "Don't worry man; I'm going to patch you up okay you look fine you're going to be okay. Got that?" the soldier nodded his head "Good okay don't fall asleep, your going to be alright" said Alex.
When the man was finally healed to the best of Alex's abilities the battle was finally over and the Covenant had retreated apparently to fight a bigger threat. Alex had three clips left after the Covenant had tried to sneak around the rock.
"Okay people" said Captain Foster "We need to get to get to that command post and hook up with command. The blockade is that way" the Captain pointed into a wooded area "We need to get there and reinforce that position, but now another mission had been given to us" he pointed to the wounded man "our revised objective is now to get that man to the blockade hospital. Let's go Private Rudan" the Captain said startling Rudan
"Yes sir?"
"Take head position. Alex you and Private Truman carry that man until we get to the blockade. If one of you is about to give up past the halfway mark, then and only then will I take you off that duty. Got it?"
Yes' sir he and the soldier with the rocket launcher said.
"Good then lets get moving. Were wasting time."
Truman slung the rocket launcher on his back and picked up the wounded mans legs. James got in front as the men reloaded and prepared.
"Th-tha-ank you." said the wounded solidier.
"Dont worry man, we're gonna get you to the hospital in time" said Alex. He really hoped that he would

Lieutenant Robert Mitchell waded behind the lead scout. With the combat that took place a few kilometers back everyone was tired. They had been on a line fighting God knows how many Covenant troops. One man was already wounded badly and probably wasn't going to live through this. But at least most of the squad was still alive.
Captain Foster held up his hand to signal a halt. Mitchell heard something in the distance, a low rumbling sound, and heavy footsteps. Foster signaled Mitchell to come forward. When he finally got to the Captain he was signaled to look through his sniper scope and look to the east. When he did his heart was filled instantly with fear. There were about twenty Covenant Elites, forty Grunts and forming a phalanx position around them were shielded Jackals.
"What do you see Mitchell?" asked Captain Foster.
"Sir I see the death of the entire company, I see the fact that we need more men with us, and I see about enough Covenant troops to take over Earth" said Mitchell in a voice so quite that the Captain couldn't hear it if a twigged was snapped.
The Captain licked his lips nervously. They were in their path directly. They didn't have a chance of defeating that kind of power. "Mitchell there's a cave up there, its small but you can fit into it. I want you to go up into that cave and cover the squad as we cross this ditch. We'll have to take an alternate route to the base" said the Captain pointing to the cave.
"Yes sir" Mitchell said going on his way. He was scared to go there but he had to. His dad was in the Marines when he was his age and if he got news that his son refused an order then he would never hear the end of it. As Mitchell hiked up the mountain he began to sweat. H e was alone in the cave, what if a Covenant patrol comes by. He'd be caught and die, he did not want to die on this planet.
He finally reached the cave and got settled to look and find that the squad was gone. He didn't see them leave; Mitchell looked through his sniper scope but still couldn't see them. The bastards left without him, but he couldn't leave. If he did the Covenant would find him and they would rip him to shreds. He looked again but still couldn't find them. He started to wipe the lenses when he heard a twig snap. His heart stopped and his blood ran cold at the sound of footsteps.
He turned to see a giant figure standing right above him. He drew out his pistol and fired. The figure fell to the ground with a loud thud. When he fell his feet sledded towards Mitchell. He discovered that the 'Elite' was wearing combat boots. He rushed to get out of the cave, he saw more figure coming towards him. Except they were actually talking.
"God man look what you've done! You shot your own man" said the figures.
Mitchell began to explain but the Captain hit him in the face. Then he felt bones crack as the butt of a Battle Rifle was pushed into his stomach.
The Captain leaned over with the most terrifying look on his face.
"Listen here dirt bag; if it weren't treason to shoot you on the battlefield then you would be dead right now. However we need every man available, even if they are complete morons" The Captain leaned up and sighed. He looked towards the east. That's where they were supposed to be heading and by now the Covenant had probably left.
Private Mitchell stood up; he was knocked back down by one of the members of his squad when they turned to move out. He stood up, preparing for another blow by one of his squad mates. It never came so he looked down, only to see the man that he had killed. He leaned down to see his dog tag.
"P.F.C. Godfree" Mitchell whispered. He remembered the name from basic training. Godfree was a Chaplain that came along to 'send his fallen brothers to heaven'.
Mitchell grabbed the dog tags and yanked them off of Godfree's neck. He stood up and began to walk behind his squad, only to feel the pain of an energy blade go straight through his left shoulder. He instantly fell to the ground and saw only the sky.
Private Truman heard a scream and looked where Mitchell was supposed to be standing. Instead of Mitchell he saw a seven foot Elite. in front of a squad of others. He dropped his side of the Sergeant and grabbed his rocket launcher. He aimed straight at the Elites Stomach and fired. The rocket flew straight at the Elite, but he suddenly jumped and grabbed a tree dodging the rocket completely.
Truman instantly knew that something was different about this Elite. The rocket flew past the Elite and instead hit the squad. Truman looked at the bodies of the squad and found the difference immediately. The Elite was wearing black armor. The sign of a Spec-Ops.
The rest of the squad looked to see what the noise was and then saw the Elite. They began to fire at him and barely missed a shot. Not even a Spec-Ops Elite would be able to kill the entire squad.
The Captain kept on moving without saying 'move out'. Truman heard a loud rumbling noise coming from the other side of the bush. The squad armed there weapons and went through. When they got to the other side of the brush they saw the blockade border. There were tanks, and artillery cannons, pelicans dropping off ammunition, and reinforcements.
"You! Truman and Melnichov take that man to the infirmary." Said the Captain pointing to a large tent with a red cross on it.
"Men, get to your post it on this stretch of trench right here. I have to go to command and hook up with the rest of the company. I will see you in briefing when I am finished" said the Captain. And with that said he left the squad standing there, setting up their equipment.

Jake couldnt see. So much was happening. Was he sliding off the holder? There was definitely gunfire he could hear that much. Was this the time of death? He hadnt even be able to shoot, only run, but even he wasn't fast enough to escape plasma.
"Get him to the military hospital its over there" He heard someone call. The Captain? He was still alive. Not even hell could hurt this much
He was moving. There were vibrations but the earth wasn't the one being carried. This was the time where either he would live or die. 'Damn. I didnt even get to write that final letter to Susie' Was that all he could manage? That was ll the sorrow he could think? It wasn't supposed to be like this. He was going into the marines to earn money for marriage. Her father wouldnt think anything of him if he didnt have money. And now he was going to die on some God foresaken planet lightyears away from home and no one would ever know.
"Doctor something is happening!" someone, a woman? said.
"This is war something always happens" said another voice. Both of them , as far a Jake could tell, were women.
"Yes i noticed but theres something wrong with the patient!"
"Well lets see he's been shot thats about as wrong as it could get" said the Surgeon yelling at the other person.
"I know but for some reason there isn't much blood loss he seems to be dying on his own"
There was some shuffling and a clipboard pen was writing somewhere. This was the most horrible experience Jake would ever know. And it was his last.
Jake managed to sit up as best he could and faced the person that he could here.
"Can you fix me or not?" He said in a low grumbling voice. It was the best he could manage, blood had gotten into his throat.
"We're going to try but-" The person ,whoever it might have been, was cut off by a high pitched and continuous beep. Jake looked over to the side of the hastily constructed bed and saw that the machine that told heart rates was drawing a straight line. What is that? Apparently his brain was damaged. Couldnt be as much as his body. Not by a long shot.
Jake used as much strength as he could to reach for his pistol. But even that was far away to him. He brushed against the handle. He pulled it out and using the rest of his strength pointed it at the unnamed machine. He fired as accuratly as he could but he didnt hear the sound of electronics being destroyed. He had missed! That was perfect his last final act of defiance had been thwarted. He couldnt stay awake. He passed out and let his pistol drop form his hand.
Outside the Blockade Hospital
Alex Melnichov stood there. That was all he could do, he wasn't a surgeon. But he couldnt just stand there forever. He walked into the hospital and saw piles of bodies being carried on a stretcher to the morgue. There was blood and doctors everywhere. Many scrambled. He walked up to the counter and faced the receptionist.
"umm. I need to check on a patient" He said. Nervousness consumed him.
"Well im sorry but with the patients their either in extreme condition or.." She looked at the stretcher. She didnt need to explain.
Alex was about to argue when a hot doctor passed through. He couldnt help himself.
"Im sorry miss but are you tired" thats the best he could come up with in the conditions.
[indent"Yes but no im not attracted to you. I have to get to my patient"
"Well may I ask who is taking this time?"
"Private Jake Miller from C Company"
Alex was stunned. This was his lucky day, when he can hit on a Doctor and find his squad mate at the sametime.
"Umm not that I care but is he alright?"
"So far but he's in critical condition. Get this he tried to shoot you know that heart rate machine?"
"Yeah whats that called?"
"I have no idea but when he shot it, it turned out to be a Covenant Elite that unplugged the heart rate monitor. Like he was trying to kill him. Weird isn't it?"
"That is fascinating. Seriously thank you tell the guy I said good job" Alex said relived.
"I will" And with that the surgeon walked away.
"Alex stood there for a while. It was unbelievable. After he was tired of surgeons telling him to move he finally went to report it to Captain Foster.
