ONI Black Operations Chapter 1
Date: 4 February 2003, 3:36 am
(Hey guess what, im baaaack. This is my thrid series and i hope you will all enjoy, sorry for the delay though and it might take some time for me to write each. Read "The Hell Of War Through the Eyes of a Marine" my first sereies and "Titan" my second and now this one, they are all connected in big and little ways besides they each follow after one another, Enjoy!) "Lt. Grayson, do you have the guards in your sites?". I grunted at the command, trying to get a good view of the Marine sentry through my scope. I activated my COM. "Jesus sir, you want me to kill them and alert the whole frigging base. Im trying to get a good unnoticable shot away from the other guards" I waited to see if he would get a bit pissed at me. "Fine god damn it, wait until that shot is ready and take good aim. If you screw up me and the other 13 Squad 2 members are dead" He pratically yelled into the COM, nearly blowing out my ear drums. "Alright Lt. Commander, don't worry I got this under control, they will never know we were here besides this poor fool"I chuckled and switched the COM off. The sentry moved right were i wanted him to go, I just had to wait for the wind to die down and then I would get my shot. The Squad I was in was the ONI Black Ops, my squad was #2 out of 3 squads. This unit had more classified information then the Spartan 2s did. We were all made up of old ODST or Marine personel. We were chosen for this and we had to decide not knowing what we had gotten into. But the plus side was that we were some of the best equipted soliders in the military. We had the newest weapons only the 3 squads had access to. We had a new type of weapon powered differently then the MA6B and with better capacity, it was called the CP-02. The firing of the bullet was created by the expendenture of an energy like the Covenant Plasma, the bullets were also charged by this therefore increasing their speed and deadly power. It was also very effective against shielding. They also had the Sniper Rifle remade, it was powered like the CP-02 but it was more effective, the bullets were larger and were expelled at higher speeds, the Rifle had no type of loud report or contrail, even the flash was reduced, and best of all it had a 15x zoom on it along with the 2x and 10x There was also the new type of grenade codenamed "Cluster Nade" for its operation, after the pin is pulled and the grenade is released, after 4 seconds it explodes as a regular Frag Grenade but also tosses out 6 mini Frag Grenades to make the damage even higher. One of the most important things was the PSCS or the Personal Stealth Combat Shield. The PSCS is built like the MJOLINIR shielding but it is smaller and less powerful. The fusion energy pack is reduced to give the solider less weight to carry, the PSCS has a Personal Camoflauge unit, unlike the Covenant versions that die out after a period, the PSCS never runs out unless turned off by the user or it is knocked out. The PSCS gives the solider a small shield around him to aid in his protection but it is limited. Two to Three Plasma bolts will overload it and either shut it down or fry it completly. But thats not including our more consintrated armor with thicker helmets with a bullet proof Black visor, which also showed all the details of our equipment. We were in a sense, more expendable but more effective then the Spartans ever would of been, as the loss of 3 Black Ops Personal on another mission had showed. As I slowly went over the facial and body details of the sentry, the wind at his end began to die down for a second and my fingers slowly moved tighter over the trigger as I had a view on the Sentry's forehead, a search light from the base slowly went around the perimeter, unfortunatly giving a glare off my scope which the Sentry had seen, hes eyes widened and he saw no more as i put a bullet through his head, ripping through the Brain Stem causing instant death. "Sir, sentry is down, I repeat he is down. The Covenant have been making their way here and obliterating any Marine or ODST trying to stop them. We have little time, good hunting CO"I clicked off the COM and activated my PSCS. The air around me turned a light blue, my visor showing my 14 teammates, all shown in a light blue aura only visable to us, moving towards the entrance of the base and easily slipping in. I rested on the soft earth, knowning that they would all come out and this will be another easy mission, but I still partly resented killing friendly military personel. I began to sweep the area with my scope, the wind began to blow harder and howl. The Marines began to move around a bit more sparadictally then they would of usually did. They began to move into the fox holes and on the sides of the base with their weapons, even heavy weapons such as the SPNKr and the MA6B-C Light Supression Gun. The howl of the wind began to get louder and I noticed in the direction of the howl the marines were massing. I lifted my head off the scope and looked into that direction, noticing the dust and leaves moving about that normally my scope wouldn't detect. I added a bullet into my clip and was about to zoom in, when the canyon arean where the base was located suddenly turned to day. I looked up in horror as about ten Plasma Motars smashed into the base, vaporizing marines as they all converged on the part of the wall situated with the marines. The fox holes opened up on the forest as did the remaining marines on the wall. Tracer fire ripped into the forest only to have something greet them. More then 10 green Fuel Rod Cannon charges and twice the amount of marines returned as plasma was fired at the humans. Sliencing the Wall even though the fox holes were still in the fight, well were as the plasma mortars splashed their area, killing everyone. To my surprise instead of running away marines continued cutting away at the Covenant ranks. Grunts, Jackals, Elites, and Hunters errupted from the forest followed by Wraiths and Ghosts. "COMMANDER, GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE" I screamed into my now active COM. "What the hell Grayson, were almost finished here" He replied calmly "Sir, get you're ass out of there, those Covies are here and just wiped out the marine garrision within 4 minutes. They are gonna fire and...." I stopped as the Covenant fired on the base, blowing it to shreds. Over his COM he heard screams of terror and pain, then there was nothing even as the Covenant kept firing. "Is anyone there, Sir, anybody respond. Come on please answer me" Tears appeared on my face. In a bit of rage I loaded my sniper rifle and aimed it at the covies, hoping to take a few of those poor bastards with me. I zoomed in on an Elite and squeezed the trigger....which in turn its head "Squeezed" off. I began to pick elites out and i ruined their day. Four shots and four elites dropped, regardless of rank. I reloaded another clip and began to pick more elites off, ones in ghosts or on foot.....they all applied to me. The Covenant kept firing not knowing that each second a number of their's died. I zoomed straight in on an Gold Elite, the Elite was on top of a Wraith and didn't know what was coming. He took a look in my direction but a Sniper bullet created a hole between its eyes and abruptly ended it's life. The Covenant, i saw, noticed the fall of their commander and looked for other higher up Elite to take up the command. Due to my shooting skills and only aiming for one type of Target, the Jackals, Grunts, and Hunters noticed themselves with out an Elite around besides the ones in the Wraiths. "Heh, like shooting fish in a barrel" I thought to myself. I viewed through my scope the yelling of one Hunter, which in turn all of the Covenant stopped firing. They turned around and slowly but carefully began to walk back towards the forest. Unfourtuantly for the Hunters, their orange flesh was open to me and i just had to obliouge. One by one, i squeezed the trigger of my Sniper Rifle and the Hunters fell. The Grunts were screaming like idiots, the Jackals began to move back towards the Wraiths. The Jackals never made it, i dropped every last one of them, i had 7 sniper shells left from my pouch and there was a lot of Grunts. I aimed at 7 Grunts, firing once each time i went over one, 7 grunts fell with head shots. "You god damned bastards are going to pay for those 14 lives, that means im going to kill all of you and you'll never see me till it was too late" I grinned and stood up, i was still cloaked as i swung my Sniper rifle over my shoulder and clicked the safety of my CP-02 as i walked through the trees and down the hill towards the Covenant's postion. The Grunts stayed crouched down near the bodies of their fallen comrads, thinking that it would help them and that the Wraiths, which was 5 of them, would protect them against their un-known killer. I began to sneak towards the Wraiths, praying that they didn't see me, on my belt i had two blocks of C-12 on each of my side. I quickly and effenctly tossed them through the air and onto the wraiths, i ran near the un-marked Wraith and started the show. The Grunts screamed in horror as the four Wraiths exploded in huge fireballs, the fifth Wraith didn't know what happened or what was going to happen to it. I slowly climbed on top of the Wraith and un-hooked a Incinderary Grenade from my belt, I pulled the pin out of the "Fire" Grenade and shoved it into the pilot's area of the Wraith. As soon as i did that, i ran for my life nearly escaping the flames and my horrible death. The Grunts stood up, their weapons lowered and they were staring into a firey oblivion. I un hooked my only two "Cluster" Nades and tossed them into their midst, as they exploded killing Grunts and then sending more frag grenades into the field and obliterating more Grunts, I toggled the controls and reappeared infront of them, my CP-02 was raised. "Good Evening" I smiled and laughed at the now petrified Grunts I aimed and fired, my GP-02 bearly gave out a recoil but the shells were tearing the Grunts apart. My full auto fusilade mowed down the Grunts before they could raise a weapon. A few did and fired, the plasma bolts missed and some actually impacted my shields and i crouched letting a few miss me by. I rolled and dove behind an empty ghost, reloading as I went. When i stood up I aimed at the last few Grunts and fired short controlled bursts, the Grunts crumpled under the fire. I slowly but grimly walked past all the bodies, knowing that I could of stopped them but I didn't. The remains of the base were just mostly melted, there was a few hard structures but it didn't take me long to find the horribly burned, crushed and mangled bodies of my squad. Pieces of them were everywhere, some I could reconize but others I couldn't, and part of the roof had collapsed, crushing six of my squadmates. I knew each and every one of those soliders, a few I called my friends and those were the ones I shed tears for. I gathered their two bodies near me, my feelings had come out but their bodies were the least ruined out of all of them, they had died from what I could guess was severe trama to the head. I activated my emergancy becon for my surpiors to find us, I knew I was going to be in deep shit for this. I bent down and looked at the fallen forms of Sgt. Kyle Montgomery and Lt. Olivia Tayler, I shook my head "This is all my fault, THIS IS ALL MY FUCKING FAULT" I screamed and burried my face into my hands, waiting for the Pelican that would arrive half an hour later.
ONI Black Operations Part 2
Date: 29 April 2003, 6:19 AM
(Well im back again, this is my second part to this series and I haven't written in a month or two. But enjoy the fan fic)
"YOU STUPID SON OF A BITCH, YOU GET GOOD MEN KILLED AND WASTED VALUABLE EQUIPMENT" The Major screamed at my and threw a coffee mug at me, which missed and shattered against the wall.
"LISTEN HERE YOU POOR EXCUSE FOR A C.O., I KNOW I MESSED UP BUT I COULDN'T DO ANYTHING TO STOP THEM FROM DYING, SO GO TO HELL YOU STUPID MORON" I yelled back at the Major, I spat at him. I was ready to kill that man by any means necessary....but I was willing to save those thoughts for another time.
"Lt. Grayson, if I had the authority I would kick you out and send you back to that backwater post where you came from. But the higher ups wanted to keep you in this, they liked what you did BUT I SURE DIDN'T, Im transferring you to first squad since they lost a few men on their last mission. YOU BETTER GOD DAMNED NOT SCREW UP THIS ONE OR ILL KILL YOU BEFORE YOUR AND MY SUPERIORS GET WIND OF IT, NOW GET THE HELL OUTTA MY OFFICE AND TAKE YOU PIECE OF SHIT ORDERS" Major Thomson's face looked as red as a cherry and he was reaching for something under the desk.
"Fine SIR, I won't screw up and waste ANY MORE OF YOU GOD DAMNED EQUIPMENT" I said and bit off each word as I walked out of his office and slammed the door, saying a silent curse as I did.
I began to leave his office and made a stop at his secretary, she was smiling and I was wondering how the hell that piece of crap treated her. I grabbed the orders out of her hand rather forcefully, I was still mighty pissed off and I really wanted to kill something or even someone at that moment. I shrugged it off as I looked into the orders. I slowly scanned through the papers seeing who the hell I was under and where the hell was it. I scratched my head as I looked at my C.O.'s name, it was strange because they didn't put a name except for his rank. His rank was Lt. Commander and I guessed by the rest of his info that was covered in bold Classified letters that he was pretty special.
"Excuse me Lieutenant, the Pelican outside is the one that is going to take you to your new posting. I would advise that you leave right now" She said with a smile while pointing out the door.
I wanted to smack that smile off her face but I held back and gave an awkward smile that would scare the hell out of small children. "Thanks, by the way how the hell do you put up with that Major?" I added
"Lots and lots of caffeine and aspirin, now leave before I crack...." The smile was fading from her face
I walked out the door, muttering to myself and wondering if they had all my possessions on that tin can of an Air Craft. As I approached the Pelican I noticed that there was a trunk, my trunk sitting there along with two crates with the letters of O.N.I. painted on the side. The crates were probably my armor and my weapons, the latter was probably unloaded due to the Major's worries, most likely, that I would come back and kill him. I pilled myself in and sat down, the pilot just took off and the Pelican lifted off the air. The flight was relatively boring. The air was pretty turbulent, the clouds had been gathering and had begun to rain. The sky had been darkening and flashes of light brightened the sky.
"Yo Lieutenant, what the heck is up with this weather?" I screamed up to the cabin
"Air mail, its just usual but why am I getting a lot of military channels going off, I mean there shouldn't be any action here.....don't worry you don't need to know any more"
I sighed as the Pelican landed at the base, my new home. No one was there to greet me except for a tech who dragged my gear off the Pelican and went somewhere I don't know. I paced myself as I walked across the tarmac towards the only building on the site. Armed guards halted my advance only long enough to check my papers and let me inside the facility. As I walked through the gates of a new beginning I got stares from the soldiers inside. The talked to one another while taking brief glances at me, I heard them use a nickname some of the soldiers had given me after my last incident, the "Cursed Sniper". It was lame but it worked pretty well. I walked up towards the CO of the squad's office, I gave a slight knock at the door and stood at attention. The door slowly opened and a man about my height walked out, he had scars over his body and they looked like burn scars.
"Lt. James Grayson, reporting here on assignment Sir" I said to the Lt. Commander and waited for a response
He looked at me for a moment and then the papers he held in his hands, he seized me up and just mentioned one thing "You'll do"
"Excuse me Sir?" I said back at him with a raised eyebrow
"You don't look too shabby, skills ok, and you aren't a complete moron like...Smith who likes to clean his weapons loaded" He smiled and said the last part out loud
"I'll take that as a complement Commander" Sgt. Smith yelled from the corner of the room
"Lieutenant, get your gear stowed and get your weapons ready" He said this part out loud "I want you and everyone here on the Tarmac in 25 minutes, gear n' all" He turned and walked back in his office
One by one, all the soldiers of 1st squad introduced themselves. There was five of them besides the Lt. Commander and Sgt. Smith, it seems that their number had dropped from 15 to 7 without counting myself. Sgt. Taylor, a tall man with black hair but looked like a new recruit. Lt. Ortega, a medium build Latino with burn scars showing that he was a veteran. Lt. Addison, I couldn't begin to describe him but I know he was big and I was sure he didn't like me at all. Cpl. Carlyle, He was the squads medic and was pretty short and I would guess that it would help him from getting hit. Last but not least, 1st squads sniper and my direct competition, Sgt. Peterson, a Petite female with black hair but the way she kept calm unlike all the other men told me that she had complete control over what she did, that made me really happy I was not going to be in her sights.
"Grayson, are you a sniper because you're too afraid to go directly into battle? No offense Samantha" Addison yelled across the room at me.
"No but at least I have brains, unlike you" I grinned and walked off, not giving the Lieutenant the time to fire up that spinning wheel he called a brain.
Location Unknown, 1645 hours
The Lt. Commander walked out onto the tarmac in his own style and timing, he was fully clad in his armor and weapons but the look on his face showed that he didn't seem to be enjoying the experience. The other members of 1st squad and I were all clad in our own armor with our weapons. I had no idea what so ever what the heck was going on, but I thought to myself "Oh well at least we have something to do"
"Alright Ops, since we our down quite a few men..." He corrected himself "soldiers, we are being sent out to stop a small upstart inside one of the large cities on this planet, about 150-400 participants using weapons taken from one of the Marines Reg. Military supply depots, shouldn't be too hard but make sure not to expose yourselves and do not kill innocents......Questions?" Lt. Commander stopped and eyed everyone of us.
"Sir, can't the marines handle this, I didn't sign up nor accept this position to kill civilians" Sgt. Peterson asked
"Peterson, the Major gave us this and I know how much all of us like his "special" work but this has to be stopped and since we aren't public, the military can't get any bad reputations about this, remember we are the people who work behind the scenes not on stage, Dismissed"
I began to walk towards the Pelican, but moving over to the sniper. I got right next to her as we sat down on the pelican. "God, most people would think snipers wouldn't have such emotions, I mean we are portrayed to be unremorseful killers who kill at the range most people would think as cowardice" I said to Peterson
"I would have to agree with you on that one, us snipers aren't treated fairly when we can do the jobs as anyone else can, we have it harder cause we see the expressions on the target's faces" She replied
The Pelican's engines flared up "We share a few of the same views" I stuck out my hand "Im James"
She shook mine "Samantha, but know that im not trying to make any bonds that would emotionally effect the way I work, I don't need the grief"
As the Pelican's doors began to close and lift off, I replied "I found that one out the hard way" I said looking at her and the doors closed as the Pelican lifted off into the cloudy afternoon.
ONI Black Operations Part 3
Date: 4 May 2003, 8:49 PM
Lancaster, Meridea 2035 hours
The Pelican's doors opened up in the middle of a war torn city. Civilian bodies littered the streets but not one of them was armed, why would rebels do that. The Lieutenant Commander stood up and jumped out of the Pelican, his powered suit already activating his shields.
"Alright apes, lets move. We have to find the source of these killings and put a stop to it, Lt. Grayson I want you deployed farther up, I need you to give me the heads up on everything...alright the rest of you move out"
The Lieutenant Commander turned around and hefted his MA6B, the only member of the 3 squads who uses the older weapon while the rest of the people had the CP-02 rifles. The rest of the squad jumped out and I saw all their expressions on their faces as the Pelican accelerated. The Pelican went deeper into the city and into the center of the fighting.
"Lt. Grayson get ready, we are nearing your deployment point, get ready" The pilot called down
I saw soldiers down in the city, but there weren't supposed to be any..what was going on here?. Tracer fire clawed up into the sky, trailing in the aircraft's wake. Explosions littered the city as rockets left their launchers and flew towards their destinations. I held in my hand my only friend I had, my Pulse Sniper Rifle. It was to be my lifeline in the city and the only thing I would need and......
"Holy Shit, Lieutenant im dropping you off here, im getting a lot of SPNKr fire, heavy armaments for rebels but nothing had been taken like that..."The pilot positioned the Pelican above the roof of another building.
I stood up as a rocket sailed by the stationary Pelican, I reached down to activate my PSCS when I saw down in street a squad of Marines. I raised an eyebrow as I lowered my visor and the shield powered up. I stretched my muscles and began to lean out when the Pelican lurched. As I twisted my head around to see inside the cockpit, the Pelican exploded blowing me out the back of the ship. I flew through the air and landed on the building, not the one I was aiming for but the one beyond that. My shield had already gave out as I scraped across the roof of the building, my sniper rifle smashing my back as it was jerked around, I kept sliding until I smashed right into an Air-conditioning unit and blanked out.
"Holy shit, Lt. Commander what the hell was that" Sgt. Smith yelled with a view of pure terror.
The Lt. Commander leaned against a car and fired a burst of his weapon up the street, hitting something that caused a blood curdling scream. "Smith, I have no god damned idea what that was but I don't think it was all that...."
Sgt. Peterson cut in "Sir, It was that bad, I saw it and the explosion was rockets that just blew up, the Pelican was right there and that explosion was it....."
All could the rest of the squad mutter was one person and with one word summed it all up "Shit"
"Sir, there is something else. There are Marines out here, not civilians, not ODSTs, not any type of rebels but the Marines. What are they doing here?" Sgt. Peterson muttered out
Lt. Ortega kicked a uniformed body over and it revealed who it was "ODST, I think this is a set up, no one knew about this operation except the Major, he's the only one who could of sent them in and I think he pitted them against he marines and oh shit there's a worse part to that"
"Spit it out Lieutenant" The Commander barked
"Our uniforms are ODST, we are definitely in the hell hole this time" Everyone gazed out around them and up the street, suddenly they disappeared from view.
I woke up to a horrible headache and pain through out my body. As I opened my eyes I could already see burning pieces of debris scattered around me. My visor was spider-webbed with cracks and the back of my right thigh hurt pretty bad. I figured out the hard way that I couldn't stand up as quickly as I would usually do. I gazed around me, taking in my scenery as well as the situation. From instinct, I already had my sniper rifle in my hands, loaded and ready to fire.
"What the hell did I get myself into this time?"
I reached down to my thigh, I felt around and I scratched myself on something. My leg was bleeding pretty bad and I had a piece of shrapnel in my leg. I got a good grip on it and yanked it out. I noticed out of the side of my eye, movement on the side of another building. I turned my head and saw a marine climb on top of the roof across the street, then another and another, it was a whole squad.
"Crap, well that's why I am happy im in this unit"
I tapped a couple buttons on my wrist to have my PSCS activate, since it had shut off from the explosion. After I completed it, I waited for it to come on but nothing happened, I tried a second time and tried activating the cloak with it. I was still visible, the PSCS wasn't working. I slapped my helmet and my HUD flicked back on, it showed through the spider-webbed visor that the PSCS was destroyed.
"Shit, and I thought I had it bad before, I hope I come out of this alright"
The marines finally noticed me and their MA6Bs coughed before I could take cover, shells connected with my chest and I dropped like a sack of potatoes. I was hit with AP and EX rounds. My suit stopped most of the rounds, the EX shells exploded and melted my armored plate, a few of the AP rounds did go through my plate. I have been hit with plasma bolts, needlers, and burns from Fuel Rod Cannons, but I had never experienced being shot with a human weapon. Three piercing pains went through my shoulder and my gut. As I lay there bleeding rather profusely, a thought came through my head, why were the marines shooting at me even though I hadn't fired a single shot?.
"God, so I guess this is what the Grunts feel like when we riddle them full of bullets"
I reached into my first-aid kit and pulled out a bottle of Biofoam, I fumbled opening it up. But I finally inserted the nozzle into my bullet wounds, I filled up my cavities with the foam which stopped the blood loss and slowed down the shock that was slowly consuming my consciousness. My sniper rifle was lying on the floor next to me. I picked it up and brought it up to my shoulder as I kneeled, I put the scope to my eye and centered on one of the marines.
"No hard feelings, I just want to make it back alive" I muttered to myself
I squeezed the trigger, the sniper rifle recoiled but the barrel burst. The gun had jammed with something inside the barrel. I cursed myself out and then ran, the marines had a bead on me again. I already had my pistol out, I fired one into one of their chests. The shell did not do anything but the marines took cover, I ran into a stairway and began to limp down the stairs. The building wasn't that tall so I was at the bottom of it rather quickly. I opened the stairwell's door with my pistol extended, the area was clear and I limped out slowly. The lobby of the building looked like a war zone, but there were only bullet holes.
There was yelling and shouting up the street, I walked closer to the shattered window of the building, pieces of shattered glass cracking beneath my feet. I kneeled down behind the remains of a table, sat there, and just waited. Slowly a squad of marines, the ones from the roof, walked past steadily but very alert.
"Crap, if I find that piece of crap Im gonna fill him with so much bullets, they could make a car out of his dead body" A marine said
"They are so blood thirsty, those god damned Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, did you men hear what they did to Lieutenant Sheffield's squad, they were responding to the civilian raid on the armory and they were jumped by a squad of ODSTs, if her squad hadn't of pulled back when they did they would of been wiped out, Carlos that one on the roof would of killed you if he wasn't wounded" The Lieutenant
"L.T., He was armed with a sniper rifle, he hit me with a pistol round, I bet if he wanted to he could of killed me, but he didn't and that has me wondering................wait a minute im getting COM traffic, Sir, a squad of the bastards were spotted in our area, but the other squads haven't been able to track them" The marine named Carlos said
"Lets go kill us some traitors"
I heard them walk off, I sighed and peeked around the corner. There was no one in sight, I raised my pistol up. My pistol still had more then half of the shells left in its clip, my sniper rifle I still had with me but it was slung around my shoulder. I slowly crossed into the debris littered street, my weapon sweeping all angles for any enemies, I could hear gun fire in the distance, MA6Bs most likely, and screams and shouts. My COM wasn't working, nothing I had was working, so in all I wasn't having a good day.
"I hope no one finds me, I don't want to kill the marines but if I run into any more im just going to have to kill them" I muttered to myself"
I moved from cover to cover, trying to find a way out of the hell hole they called the city. I began to go into shock, my thoughts became jumbled and my movements became clumsy and tired. I began to have trouble keeping my pistol up. There was a noise behind me and I turned around, the squad of marines were back and they opened fire. Bullets zinged past me and ricocheted off my armor. I fired a couple rounds at them, but with me in that condition I wasn't liable to hit anything. Bullets were still flying. I felt a sharp pain and I fell backwards, my life's blood was flowing out of me and the marines just stood over me. They had this look in their eyes like they felt bad for me. I coughed up some blood and I just stared.
"What the hell did I ever do to you marines" I passed out after hearing a coupled muffled replies.
ONI Black Operations Part 4
Date: 17 December 2003, 2:38 AM
Location Unknown, Lancaster, Meridia
The Lt. Commander in his mind went through all of the events of the day past, there were two conflicting reports and both were there in front of him. One was from ONI, while the other was from the Marine Corps Command here on planet. Both of them told of different accounts and events of the same incident. The ONI one described a civil uprising, the ODSTs and the Black Operations Squad One, which the latter was not mentioned, had been sent in to deal with the problem. The Marine's version on the other hand said that two squads of Marines had been guarding the Armory in Lancaster, were ambushed by at least four squads of Orbital Drop Shock Troopers belonging to the 281st Battalion, which was directly attached to the Black Operations Squads. He suspected that the head of the Black Operations had another project that had been running for some time.
Ackerson, that thickheaded bastard, had disapproved of their involvement with the Spartans some years ago and of the Lt. Commander's morals. The project had not gone the way he wanted but whatever that new project was, it must have been some high profile crap that was worth more then human lives. It could of also been that the Lt. Commander had never become one of Ackerson's cronies, those damnable loyal ODST idiots, he was and would always be a Marine at heart.
There was a rap at the door and Smith walked in. "Sir, I got rid of that damned surveillance A.I. implanted in our systems. I don't know how it got there or how long it has been, but from the amount of trashed code left in its wake I'd say it must have been awhile. It was listening to our voice conversations and monitoring our computer data." Smith sighed and he was perspiring quite much.
The Lt. Commander sighed "Smith, get the contingencies ready if the brass decides that its time for direct force instead of "accidents" to get rid of us. Also are we ready for the rescue op?"
Smith turned and straightened "Mendez said squad three would be in place in time" He walked off leaving him to his self. He stood up, grabbing his armored gauntlets and boots, strapping them on and walking off towards the armory while carrying a helmet with the name Ghost painted on the side in slanted white letters.
Marine Corps Field Hospital, Lancaster, Meridia
I struggled to pull myself out of unconsciousness, grabbing and tearing away at the webs that held me in my own mind. The light slowly filtered in and I could see all once more. My vision quickly sharpened and I began to immediately take notice in my surroundings all too quickly. I was hooked up to a machine on a tray next to the bed I was on. It showed my vitals and bodily conditions. I was in a hospital bed; I had restraints on my body holding me down. I tried to sit up even though I was restrained and my body flared with pain, it had felt that several million ants were biting me all over my person at the same consecutive moment.
There was no one inside my room at that moment; the only other human beings were two armed Marines outside my door. There was also a Doctor and a Marine Corps officer arguing outside as well. I could just barely hear them.
"I'm sorry Commander, I can not let you see the soldier yet. No matter what weight you have, physical or otherwise. You are not getting in here" The Doctor exclaimed
"Doctor Edwards, I don't give a damn how the patient is. They killed my men and I want his head on a fucking pike". The Commander leaned on one foot, arms crossed.
"Commander Sheffield, I know this might be hard for but I can't let you in" The Doctor slowly walked backwards.
I was beginning to panic at the moment, struggling to get free as this very pissed woman was trying to get inside towards me. I didn't know what was going on but some thing rather big must of gone down and we, ONI Black Operations, were left out in the cold. I watched as the Commander finally got her way, pushing the doctor aside and ordering the other two Marines to move, they obviously didn't want to feel her wrath and quickly moved apart.
She walked in and stood at the edge of the bed, she look down at all the injuries listen on my sheet. "So Lt. James Grayson. You have newly grafted skin, a new kidney, and a new right lung. You lost a lot of blood yet you are still with us, care to tell me what happened yesterday" She said that while the other hand was un-latching and latching the holster of her sidearm.
"Ma'am, I have no idea what happened at all yesterday. I was out there for five minutes at the most maybe before I was hit. All I knew was that there was a civil uprising and we were sent in to help stop it. But I'm guessing that is not true is it? Or isn't what happened?" I sighed and waited for the inevitable.
"You are damn right that's not what happened!" She exploded with anger "My men were killed out there and you are saying that you had no fucking clue as to what went on, you sick piece of -" The entire building shook and there was a roar in the distance of an explosion.
Marine Corps Field Hospital Perimeter, Lancaster, Merida
They fired another round of rockets at the compound from their hidden position. The shells streaked into the walls of the Marine compound, blowing holes and creating large craters along the perimeter. Lt. Mendez fired three shells and the sentry on one of the guard towers that was of the closest proximity fell over dead. She reloaded her rifle and activated her PSCS just as the last rockets left their tubes. They flew straight and true, hitting the generators near the motor pool.
"Sir, this is Mendez. Base is un-powered and in chaos, ready for your squad. Black Operations 3 melting into the shadows" She said and walked with the rest of her squad into the tree line as the final few activated their PSCSs.
Marine Corps Field Hospital, Lancaster, Meridia
The Lt. Commander and the rest of squad one easily snuck into the damaged Marine base. The smoke and confusion made it all the more easier. Also the fact that they couldn't see them helped a great deal. They slowly trudged their way across the courtyard, making sure that no one got a good glance at the squad. They moved with a purpose and to anyone knowing what they were doing, it was as clear as a summer night. The Field Hospital had a hole in its side the width of a Warthog LRV; you could easily notice it. They crouched by the motor pool; Addison took the time to attach a block of timed C-12 onto the frame of the outermost Warthog, to cause the most confusion and to make the Marines think they were still under fire. Also, it would be pretty damning to the ODSTs under the eyes of the UNSC brass who got wind of this little problem.
The Lieutenant Commander toggled his COM "Alright, lets move in. Do this like we have done a million times before, do not fire on anyone unless you are compromised. Get Grayson out alive, only objective, we need him alive . . ." He shut the COM off.
They all shouldered their rifles and moved into the building. They broke off into small groups, combing the area for their wounded comrade. The Lt. Commander had Taylor and Smith with him as they moved quickly up the hall; it was going pretty well till the gun shots from a Marine's rifle discharged. He heard the muffled coughs and knew that the Marine wouldn't be causing any more trouble. Then they saw it, Taylor pointed it out down the hall. There at the end of the corridor was a room; it had two Marine guards posted outside and what looked to be an officer, a female one at that, conversing with the hospital patient.
He raised his fist and they stopped, he risked toggling his COM "This is the Lt, Commander, all other groups secure the insertion point for my return" He shut it off and moved.
As they neared the door he nodded towards Taylor and Smith and then at the Marines. The two of them walked up and smashed the butts of their CP-02s into the faces of the Marines. He walked up and kicked the door down; he noted the terror in the Marine officer's face and the grin that formed on Grayson's. The weird thing was that the Lt. Commander knew that face and couldn't hurt the person who it belonged too. He toggled off his PSCS but had his rifle shouldered.
He appeared as nothing more then a Ghost appearing from the shadows "Hello Sarah, rising in rank while I have been gone?" He noted the terror; he lifted his visor up for good measure.
She looked him straight in the eyes "J.D.? Is that you? Yes, yes it is you. You lying piece of fucking shit! You have been alive this whole fucking time! You are . . . err were dead!" Her eyes shown just more then anger, happiness showed and whatever they had, were still there.
"Well, you know I was technically dead. I was in a Coma for a couple months, and then came rehabilitation and then some other shit which isn't important right now. ONI is a bitch though, but in all seriousness I need my Lieutenant back" He gestured his hand towards the bed "Taylor, Ortega get Grayson out of here" The two men appeared out of nothingness, un-strapping Grayson and carrying him out of the room.
Carlyle came on over the COM "Sir? We found his gear and are freeing it right now. We'll be there in one second" It shut off, leaving only the hiss and them two alone.
"Its just . . . just amazing that you are still alive. I don't know what to say?" Sarah stuttered out. She was a Commander; Commander Sheffield had a nice ring to it.
"You don't have to say anything. I have to go now but there are two things I want to tell you. Firstly COM Channel E-8772185 and you'll get any answer you need from me, and secondly this" He walked up and dropped his rifle, giving her a hug. "That's it, I missed you but sorry" He toggled the PSCS leaving the Commander saying a faint and distant "Goodbye?"
They gathered outside near the motor pool, the Warthog was now a flaming wreck and a beacon for their ride. The Black Operations squad watched as a Pelican dove in fast and landed, they all ran inside it and strapped down as it immediately took off. Lt. Grayson was getting re-acquainted with his gear and was also visibly in pain. The Lt. Commander thought the mission went well, that is not including the feeling inside him he got as a bonus.
