Infection Part 1: The Escape
Date: 13 December 2005, 2:11 am
Ok, guys, I got tired of the newb wars, so I decided to write this quickie I kept going back to when I was procrastinating. At least try to enjoy.
Planet Alveron
2/24/2552
7:30 PM
The night was silent, save for the sound of insects chirping. Right now, Alveron, the 3rd planet founded after the fall of Albatross, one of the strongholds of the Human army, was calm. Alveron, the dreaded prison-world of the Covenant, which held only the most ruthless and deadly human POWs, was about to have its calm shattered by one lone soldier. As the Gullos, frog-like predators with a tendency to eat anything they find, were just settling into their dens beneath the rocky surface, a sudden alarm sounded. Lights flashed on, probing the ground for anything that was hidden. On the battlements of high security prison 003 in sector 1615OPY31, Covenant elites stood with dual plasma rifles. There was a sound like bending metal, and the prison's illuminators went out. A dark shadow leapt out of another shadow and tackled the guard closest to it on the battlements, making the guard's shields flare. Instantly, all the other guards nearby fired toward the shadow. The lights of the plasma bolts briefly illuminated the face of the assailant. It was a hard face, toughened by years of combat. This face had studied the prison for 4 long years, waiting for his chance to escape. The plasma blasts detonated harmlessly onto a wall as the face dodged with incredible quickness, grabbing the weapon from the elite's hand and firing it into it's chest and head simultaneously, frying the guard. A voice echoed through the prison.
"ATTENTION: DETAINEE FROM SOLITARY CELL 072 HAS BREACHED THE HOLDING AREA. ALL AVAILABLE GUARDS TO COURTYARD 14A. TECHNICIANS, REROUTE POWER FROM MAIN GRID TO SECONDARY FLOOD LIGHTS AND FORCEFIELDS. TERMINATE DETAINEE 072 IF SPOTTED."
The unknown face, designated as detainee 072, melted into the shadows, the fallen guard's weapons in his hands. Instantly, the other guards turned on their infrared vision, with laser pointers strobing the darkness. Warily, one elite, known by the classification of Guard 154, weapon ready, peered at the corner 072 had just disappeared into. 3 seconds later plasma exploded out of the corner to his left. The shot hit him in the side and he fell off the outside edge of the battlement, screaming horribly until he landed a direct hit on the force field concealed right at the edge of the prison's outside wall, hanging sideways on the wall. The guard's shield flashed once, and short-circuited. What was left of the guard after passing through a vaporizer shield hit the ground. Eagerly, the Gullos tore into their first fresh meal in a month. Detainee 072 was a blur of movement, breaking every light that made the walls visible until the battlements where pitch black. There was a frenzy of movement in the control towers as they tried to get lights on the battlements. Screams were heard on the walls, screams of warriors who knew death was upon them and were proven true. That's when the backup lights finally focused completely on the battlements. But now, the inside and outside of the prison were now pitch-black, save for the soft glow of the force fields. The battlements were bare, except for the guards who were still in the tower control rooms. All of the guards who had actually been on the wall were dead, having been pushed off the edge of the walls as well, somehow without being seen. A speaker turned on, and the voice sounded again this time, not as cool as it had used to be. In fact, it sounded panicky.
"ALL GUARDS REPORT TO THE PERIMETER OR THE COURTYARD THIS INSTANT! DETANIEE 072 IS NOT TO ESCAPE, I REPEAT, HE IS NOT TO ESCAPE!"
Guards poured into the prison courtyard, but it was to late. A grapple gun's hook latched onto the communications antennae. Detainee 072 rocketed over the wall of high security prison 003 and hit the ground, just missing the vaporizing shield. Shooting the Gullos near him with the last of the plasma rifle's battery and discarding it, 072 dived into an abandoned foxhole leading to an underground bunker from a long-forgotten war he had discovered 3 months ago. Ghosts had reached the foxhole at that instant and fired point-blank into the foxhole, just missing the detainee and hitting the dirt walls, melting it instantly. Detainee 072 looked back angrily as the skin above his left eye charred and his hair burnt before the ground behind him collapsed, sheltering him from any further burns. As he began the long and tedious process of crawling and collapsing the tunnel behind him, Zander Reeve, also known as Detainee 072, one the most feared Covenant killers in the Human-Covenant war, a rouge SPATAN-III, breathed a sigh of relief. He was free, for now, as free as you can be trapped underground on a Covenant world.

In the adjacent hill to the foxhole, a scout drone reported back to the ground-to-space data sender concealed in a grassy hill. As soon as the drone confirmed the data was sent to it's master, it self-destructed with a single flash and a muted explosion, making sure the only copy was at the ship it had just sent it to. As soon as the copy was uploaded, the g-t-s sender self-destructed as well, destroying the record. In days, the Gullos would have eaten the remains and digested them, resulting in a completely clean environment, with no possibility of discovery.
On the bridge of a small ship orbiting the planet, a servant approached his master, eager to give him the good news. Shadow was thrown onto the figure sitting a commander's chair, making it impossible to see him.
"General Daetrix."
"Yes, what do you need?"
"A g-t-s signal has just arrived, my lord."
"What planet did the signal come from?" Daetrix asked.
"Alveron."
"Then I take it he has escaped?" he asked. The servant nodded eagerly, and the rouge general smirked.
"All according to plan." He said and shot the servant. The body crumpled to ground, and Daetrix spoke, still retaining the darkness surrounding him.
"Take the body to the infects. It will give them the energy for a hunt. A SPARTAN hunt."
