Abandoned:Part 1
Date: 21 March 2004, 9:33 AM
Master Chief glared out upon the landscape, using his Motion Detector Sensors to make sure he was safe at all times. Any quick movements would instantly cause a red blip to show up on the MD radar and result in a quick death for the perpetrator by the hands of Master Chief himself. Assault rifle in hand, he hopped out of his Warthog Reconnaissance Vehicle and proceeded to create a moderately sized fire with sticks he had collected and matches he owned.
It had been four days since he had landed on Halo Installation 02, a weapon of mass destruction capable of whipping out entire worlds in minutes. His sole purpose for being here was simple and blunt. Master Chief had to destroy it. He had already insured that Installations 04 and 03 would hold a permanently "broken" state. His entire crew died among the Halo 04 when it exploded, leaving Master Chief alone and in dire need of help.
Master Chief's real name was John. He was part of a program to produce super soldiers capable of incredible military powers. According to records, John is the last SPARTAN II soldier alive, however he strongly doubts this and is determined to find the rest of his comrades.
Originally, a company of about 300 UNSC marines came with him to Halo Installation 02, but he had strayed from the group after they were ambushed by a large amount of Grunts. Grunts were small and by all means weak, however their determination to survive served as an equalizer in combat. They were dangerous in bulky numbers. John was sure his troops had survived the ordeal, but he's learned in the past that he shouldn't assume anything quite so early.
His motion detectors suddenly went haywire with multiple red blips surrounding Master Chief from all sides. He jumped to his feet, remaining aware of the large amount of possible enemies nearby.
Out of the shadows, a loud barrage of plasma fire ruptured the foliage and headed straight for Master Chief. Instinctively, he jumped before most of the shots reached their destination, but about 3 of the shots scraped the armor on his left arm. Luckily, his M.K.O.L.N.I.R armor also enhanced his senses by at least 10 fold. Otherwise, had he not been wearing the armor, he would have been burnt to a crisp.
He heard the Grunts talking amongst themselves, obviously searching the premises for John's corpse. They were caught off guard when another volley of gunshots scared the nearby animals out of the area.
Master Chief sat up, only to see and hear one of his fellow marines shouting orders to the rest of the soldiers around him. "Move, move, move! Make sure MC gets out of here alive!"
Another soldier of a lesser rank answered the order accordingly. "Roger that, sire!"
In the time that it took most of the Grunts to turn, aim their weapon, and being to fire, the marines had shot them and killed them. A few of the annoying Covenant warriors tried to escape, but their efforts were quickly thwarted. Resistance was futile. Seemingly endless scores of blood-blackened alien corpses covered the ground, making the once lush and green plain look like a darkened field of ash and death.
Dumbfounded by the entire event, Master Chief continued to look around, making sure that the entire area was safe for him to stand up and thank his comrades. He never expected that the infantry unit he brought along with him would ever fight so aggressively. Fortunately, he was wrong. In the past 10 minutes in which the even occurred, no human soldiers were killed, and only around 10 were seriously injured.
One of the younger recruits ran up to John. "Thank the maker we found you," he exclaimed, "Glad to see us?"
John replied, "Yeah, surprisingly. Now more than ever."

Finally, he felt like he was back where he truly belonged. Somehow, a military campsite on an extremely dangerous weapon-planet felt comforting to him. A minute brawl between two intoxicated marines woke Master Chief from his much-needed 14 hours of sleep. It was relatively unwise to spend so much time sleeping in a hostile environment such as a Halo Installation, where danger lurked in every corner, camped in every mountain range, and hid in every tree. Incredibly, the temporary encampment the group had constructed stayed intact throughout the night. There was talk of a heresy within the Covenant religious structure, but proof to confirm such a claim was unattainable. The main reason why the humans were warring with the Covenant was because of the Covenant's religious beliefs. The Covenant was a group of many different alien species united against humanity to annihilate them. This was because humans resembled that of the aliens' gods, the Forerunner. Remarkably, the alien collective vowed to destroy those who look like their gods. Many would suspect that they would worship mankind, however this was not true in this case. The simplest explanation for the lack of "Covie" activity was that the concentration of alien soldiers was considerably smaller than it was on the previous Halo stations.
As he rubbed his eyes and exhaled a gentle yawn, John arose from his cot and waltzed aimlessly toward the bathroom the soldiers in charge of camp construction and re-construction had built. He slowly pushed open the ajar door went straight to the sink. He set the water for "Very Cold" and turned the water dispenser on. Then, he cupped his hands together to form a bowl, and ran them under the rater. When the makeshift hand-bowl was full, John splashed the water all of his face in a successful attempt to jumpstart his senses and prepare him for an arduous day of scouring the entire installation for a hint of where the Main Control Center could be located.
